I gotta be honest, hearing these songs makes me cry, regardless of the medium in which they are played. It... reminds me of every single emotional moment, and Toby Fox is a genius by keeping the same songs, and playing them in various ways to gain different moods from the scene in which they are deployed.

Fun fact! When the music changes melody the theme gets repeated six times. This symbolizes the killing of the 6 humans and how even when they tried they still fell. Sadge ;-;
In terms of story leading up to it, this is my favorite Undertale boss. Mainly because it drives the point home that regardless of your decisions at this point, there's no outcome where everyone can be happy. If Asgore wins, he takes your SOUL and wipes out humanity. If you win, the monsters remain trapped in the Underground and will more than likely stay that way since if you killed any monsters then Frisk probably tells other humans about what happened and warns people not to make the same mistake. Or if you killed nobody, monsters are going to stay down there because they probably don't even want to hurt any humans after getting to know you. Also this song kicks ass, amazing cover my dude.
@@Zeforas And if it wasn't for your determination being as overpowered as it is, it's very likely that this could have been a monster impossible to spare.
Except, as Toriel points out in the Pacifist route, that's not really true. It's not particularly a situation born out of desperation, but out of Asgore's cowardice. At any point, he could have taken one of the SOULs he'd already claimed, passed through the barrier, and gotten enough to shatter the barrier. But instead, his own weakness made him wait around, keeping his people underground, in the hopes that he wouldn't have to kill another human, rather than do what he had to for the sake of his people. This whole fight is only happening because Asgore is too weak and gentle a person to bite the bullet and do what's necessary, and that's why Toriel left him. It's by sheer luck that the Flowey situation comes to a head and solves the problem for him.
@@senorsnout4417 Toriel left him because Asgore said that he'd kill humans, even if he didn't mean it. And doing what Toriel said would have caused another war.
@@-Solidwater You're half-right. She left after he declared that he would wipe out the humans. However, she also explicitly says that if he had really wanted to do so, he could have freed everyone at any time once he got the first SOUL, which implies that she knew he was bluffing. It wasn't *just* that he claimed he would wage war on humanity; she knew him better than that, to think that he'd seriously go through with it. But it's more that he's actively, though not consciously or intentionally, prolonging the suffering of everyone in the Underground because he refuses to actually do what he says, while also lying to them and giving them false hope. The "it would cause another war" point doesn't really factor in, because that was never her point. She *knew* he'd never do it, but she's makes that point to highlight his cowardice.
This sounds and looks so smooth! Love the contrast to your original cover. Also, cool that birb guitar is in the spotlight again :o Happy birthday, Undertale!
When i first played the game I enjoyed all the songs, cried to some, rocked to others, but Asgore's theme felt different. Asgore really feels very compelling to me because of the heavy feeling i have that life being tough as it is, sometimes there is no good choice in terms of morality. Sometimes you have to make choices aknowledging it, knowing that blindly searching for a perfect answer when there is none leads to worse but also that you can still be blind to real solutions and make terrible mistakes.
