Things I noticed in the video: BBC made Green Day use a backing track that overpowered the actual instruments. At the beginning of the video, Billie says "turn it up". I think he was either being sarcastic about the backing track or actually requesting for his guitar to be turned up. In the start of the second verse, you can see Mike Dirnt fingering the bass instead of using a pick. And for those of you who don't know, Mike Dirnt is primarily a pick player
I think the reason why Mike uses his fingers in the second verse is because he throws his pick at the audience since a scream from them could be heard.
This is the first time I've ever seen Mike play fingerstyle, and we can't even hear him (however, I _have_ seen him play slap in some bass demo videos).
they were forced to use backing tracks at this performance like top of the pops did for a long time, until they realized bands hate that. but yeah, his voice and mikes are super clear
did you see in the bit where the bass run comes in, Billie took drugs while that happens. He put his hand over his nose and huffed after it and he looked like the walking dead when the bass line came in
This sounds exactly like the recording and it’s bbc network (remember what happened with nirvana and bbc network) this feels like the same thing Edit: 2:05 my point exactly
because it is lol. top of the pops is so trash because of their heavy use of backing tracks, which is what you see in every TOTP performance. usual BBC crap
LIVE vocals, mimed music ... great actually, never saw this at time as I would never in my wildest fucking dreams watch top of the fucking pops but heres a gem in a sea of utter shit....

yeah halfway through i realized there's a backing track. that's not something they typically do.

So amazing 🔥🔥🔥
the quality of this recording is super solid. guitar is coming through almost identical to the studio album.
Because they put back tracking
the effects of speed from every possible angle.
