I like both of these radios and had both at one time, I like the old school feel of the 590 sg but the 7300 was probably the easiest to learn to operate. The band scope is super nice on the 7300 but I found I could live without it if I had to. Noise reduction on the 7300 is better than the 590 but I think the 7300 has slightly more issues in an electrically noisy environment like inside a city.....both have great TX audio once you dial them in, the 590 is alot heavier but only slightly bigger than the 7300 ... it was hard to choose between these for me but I kept the 7300 and miss the 590
The Kenwood has much better audio quality for both cw and ssb. Being able to listen for hours on end without tiring is great. The icom has a mechanical audio like the Elecraft K3 which is something that tires youout much more quickly when listening for long periods of time. I'll stick with my 590!
I tend to agree. I'm trying to decide which of these radios to buy. I am an avid CW operator. I think the 590 is the way I want to go. More bassy audio.
hi, what are you trying to compare? two radios with their speakers covered? and I'm sure there'll be somebody saying that one is better than the other :D please watch Steve Ellington videos on how to do it mostly right...
@Joe Framo I don’t agree with your comments not all radio are not the same if you try to do DX contest or field day with a Yaesu FT 857D for example you will end with ear fatigue. Ear fatigue usually occurs after many hours of listening to or working with audio, especially when working at relatively high SPL‘s. It causes us to not hear the sound in the same way we do when we are fresh. Definitely you will hate a radio like that , I had the IC 7300 and the 7610 those radio are not that quiet btw I my IC 7100 is more quiet the receiver on the IC 7100 are much sensitive . I have the KENWOOD TS890S you be all they with the TS 890 S and you will not end with ear fatigue.A lot of Hans they focus on the screen and how the radio looks I prefer how it receive so I can enjoy a good quality of audio , but all radios are not the same
Thank you for this review, I found it helpful. The Icom has a common weakness for CW ops due to the narrow band ringing. A Butterworth or Gaussian function would have been better and worth a higher price. The Kenwood sounds more comfortable so I'll keep it on my list until I have a few days to try out some radios in store.
I think this it's a nice comparison between two nice radios but too manu different architetture. Maybe a direct comparison with a similar should be better. Any way thanks for the video.
There's some lows cutoff on the Icom (i have this radio). Addig bass in its menu as a workaround is a solution, and also using the btw shift. Both radios are great. 7300 is entry level, 590SG is mid level. I keep mine for the spectrum scope, it's all built in, no need for additional hardware. Thanks for sharing, your video shows some differences between radios no other video shows. It also would be useful to compare them in the vicinity of very strong signals for ex in SSB, Kenwood will obviously win, no surprise here.
Hey Clyde, you're comparing two radios on different frequencies! Not good. Plus, you're fiddling around with filters, making the comparison that much less valid. Post it again when you learn how to do it right.
@@M70ACARRY Are you trying to be clever? he/she has every right to complain. You cant post a video claiming to compare radios if your on separate frequency's AND one with NB on the other Off. messing around with filters that don't match.. Its a bad comparison on multiple levels. People looking to buy a new radio could and probably have been misled by this kind of carelessness.
You just showed that both radios work.....big deal ! Try this instead. Find a super weak signal that you can hardly hear, no compare that signal on the radios. Next, find a signal, like in contest conditions, with a lot of splatter from other stations. Now see which radio handles it better. For what you showed, you could compare my YouKits QRP radio to both of your radios and it would be the same. Barry
Horrible comparison... please let a cw operator do the cw comparison.. My 7300 is at par with my KX3 receiving cw, and it sounds far from the lousy sound on this recording.
Ron, interesting, my initial thoughts listening to this was that the Icon sound slightly bright and synthetic, certainly on dab, the kenwood softer/warmer. Head says Kenwood, heart is being dragged towards that lovely bandscope...
I don’t think you did a comparison because if you did a comparison you will notice that the KENWOOD sound , receiver , better than the ic 7300 btw I compare the ic 7300 vs ic7100 and the ic7100 is more sensitive for receiving that’s why the ic 7300 isn’t on my shack , A lot of people come here and say that they compare radios when they didn’t, común sense if you compare TS 590SG vs IC 7300 the TS590SG is a Winner I. The radio that I have now is a KENWOOD TS 890S and a IC 7100 .
Maybe I am stupid, but I like the orange color of the 590s. Easier on the eyes.
The Kenwood ts 590 is The Killer amazing transceiver!!!

I have two 590S and am thinking of either a 7300 , A FTDX-10 or a TS-590SG... I'm leaning towards buying another 590S used...
I tend to agree. I'm trying to decide which of these radios to buy. I am an avid CW operator. I think the 590 is the way I want to go. More bassy audio.
Where you going to turn on the NB on both? Not really an A:B test when you have them set different.
7300 почитать мануал и настроить надо в меню звука . есть регулировка низких и высоких частот.7300 звук лучше чем 590. есть оба.

Dude shut the fuck up unless you’re prepared to make a vid yourself.

TNX, Yes, You are right CW sounds more comfortable on kenwood.
dont you have a light in your shack?
friend, in your opinion which radio has better performance to make contest IC 7300 OR TS 590SG ?? 73
590 is better for mine opinion.
На ic 7300 провожу бльше QSO , чем на 590-ом
a better comparision is to record lef and right while on same frequency... that gives a bettrer view. Ehhh sound
NR on in kenwood ...off in com... and no in same speakers... no good comparision

senhor faça outra comparação amigo com volume melhor ou o mesmo caixa de som para ambos!

kenwood better song
in the dark like that the 590 looks just like I recall the 920 I sold. hardy har, or didididit didit didididit didit, 73

I did a side by side comparison of these 2 radios for hours. The Kenwood sounded a bit too muddy compared to the Icom 7300.

оба аппарата имею, оба по своему хороши
Так и есть, согласен!
хорошо что я продал ts-590 !!!
Звук у них ужасный
оба аппарата имею, оба по своему хороши
