I've searched through Durov's channel, telegram official channel, their blog and couldn't find anything, what I could find tho is that mtproto 2 was fully integrated in version 4.6 (2017), so my guess is that this story is just a filler to put ad in video

Telegram is superior to both Discord and WhatsApp. It's genre agnostic meaning it can be used as an alternative to both. You can do screen sharing like you can do on Discord and you can do group voice chats. I find the graphical user interface of Telegram to be balanced unlike Discord's bloated GUI and I feel like it runs smoother too. Keep in mind the file limit alone per upload is 2 GB and that's without their premium subscription. The mere fact that they were able to survive a server overload by reconstructing their server architecture making it miles more efficient proves that the company has great potential which is why I'm watching their open network project closely.
