My lipodema started when I was 13-14 years old. I was not overweight. All my friends had normal bodies and I began a lifetime of hiding my legs and dreading going to the beach or pool. I was bullied, shamed and insulted over and over again. In my late teens I weighed nearly 120 pounds (5'5) and was continually referred to as"fat". How can you be fat with a 22" waist? I came to think of myself as deformed. I will be 69 in a couple of months and have missed out on so many things because I couldn't find a decent way to camouflage my legs. The condition has progressed to my entire leg, hip to ankle, as well as my upper arms. I have always exercised and eaten a healthy diet ( vegetarian for the last 25 years) yet I now weigh 175 lbs. At my current age, it is not so important how I look, but I am so tired of carrying around these big, heavy, aching legs. The memory of the looks of horror on my lovers faces when they saw my legs will never leave me. I hope their is such a thing as reincarnation, as I would so like to experience life in a normal body. I am glad that finally there is more interest from the medical community on this disorder that has so dominated my life and choices.

My mother suffered for years Iv seen how hard it’s been. Last year she watched dr Shawn baker talking to a specialist and they were talking how diet was key not a cure but certainly for a size reduction and pain relief. She went keto that helped a lot but the size didn’t go down a lot and until she went full carnivore just beef eggs and water. She hates beef but she’s lost inches in the last 5ish months she’s pain free and her confidence is through the roof. No more stumbling out the bed if what’s she loves the most. Still hates beef but she’s happy.

I really feel for you as that's how I've been all my life and I'm 50 now. It's so frustrating as I feel unheard and dismissed by the doctors. I hope you have had a lovely life regardless of this affliction, I think we need to make the most of what we have left xx

@@sharonw2008 It helped that I moved to Europe where there is a healthier lifestyle. I learned to be able to take mixed nude saunas and to swim in the nude in magnificent alpine settings, which I could never have done in the US. I learned two new languages, and built up a life for myself in two new countries. I've had many lovers who never behaved as horribly as the ones in the US did. I'm now living out my old age in my own cottage in the country with pool and pets and wonderful friends on a Mediterranean island. I've done the best I could despite my deformity.

I'm sorry that your partners didn't love your legs. Probably one of the saving graces of my self esteem is my husband who loves my whole body even though I have hated my legs my entire life. He truly doesn't understand why I hate them so much.

I had my first 2 surgeries for Lipedema stage 3-4, type 4. I already feel so much better and confident that even at age 68 I am going to achieve and get my mobility back all the way. Legs are next. I noticed a few years back that the front on my thighs were building outward, and pants were getting tighter in that area. Now I know. Thanks to Dr. Beidas and his wonderful team.

Why haven’t there been hormone studies if we know it started at puberty and gets worse with things like pregnancy. I could guess that it is bc drug companies don’t stand to gain but we as women could be more careful with getting hormone free foods. I’ve seen tons of doctors and they really don’t know about this. I tried making appointment with University of Michigan Endocrine but they can’t see me until oct.

I had it before puberty but I ate a lot of processed meat as a toddler. It's strange but my mother was anorexic so she overcompensated on kids.

What does liposuction do to the fascia? I get it that the weight-loss at the legs is a temporal relief, but what is the effect on the long run? The knowledge of the fascia is very important. I wonder if the liposuction is done without damaging the fascia. Do the doctors think the human body is a mechanical functional system?

I tried to get an appointment with Dr Beidas but now insurance companies won’t cover the appointment. Do we ever catch a break? Living with lipedema is horrible! We are in pain, get profiled as a fatty, have problems fitting in clothes and have mental health issues due to lipedema! 😢

Very common practice, but also...we cannot force any medical professional to dispense personalized advice on a social media platform. Their license might stand to be in jeopardy. I understand that it's frustrating to us, but we need to respect those boundaries.

I am 78 years young and have fibromyalgia and lipedema and very swollen legs with very much bruising on my lower legs on now on my lower arms. The bruises are red not blue and my bloods are normal. MyRms are starting to swell as I notice despite losing 13 K my watch and rings are tight. I also have arthritis and pain 😢. I wonder if liposuction would help me. It has not been suggested to me but I wear Velcro bandages on my feet and lower legs but my knees are now getting pads of fat. I bounce on a ball and walk and do water aerobics and marching and walking on the pool. I am often in pain and get very tired so don’t always do all the exercises. Today I walked for 40 minutes and did not swim. Oh well thanks for this but I a, not sure I can get this treat,e to here in Israel..

I still do not have a formal diagnosis. I live in Huntsville, Al and every doctor I I've seen does not think it's real and do not know about it. I began having symptoms at puberty @ 13. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia some years ago. I have my whole leg affected early amd my arms after i had a child at the age of 35.

Are there any medical doctors at all who specialize in lipedema? It seems they're all surgeons, because all the money is in doing surgery on people with lipedema. If you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

@@AnchorMoments well personally BHRT has been a positive addition to my regime. Eliminating all sugars, and eating a higher meat diet and select vegetables, no grains, small amounts of starches has all made a huge difference. As well as supplements.
