Now that would have been a different film! Schaffner brought a stately widescreen style to the film. MACKENNA'S GOLD showed that comedy was not Thompson's forte, especially after I just watched the woeful WHAT A WAY TO GO!
@@RetroView66Thompson was known mainly for his thrillers like Guns of Navarone and Cape Fear. I feel from watching Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Thompson could made a really powerful film. The only thing with Conquest is the budget value but Thompson still had great performances from his cast.
