DOC, love watching your videos especially since I am a first time home owner and had zero clue on maintaining a lawn - I have learned a lot from you, thanks for all the great tips and info...!!!! 👍🏼
Hey Doc. We just bought our first house and we have a super weedy lawn. And I don’t think there’s any actual turf established here. It seems to be the only grass is Poa Annua. Should I just kill the lawn and start over with some aggressive Bermuda? I live in upper middle Georgia. Gwinnett area. I talked to a few of my new neighbors. And they informed me that the previous owner drenched the yard in round up before it was put on the market. So I don’t know if there’s any actual grass left 😂
Hey Doc! Just want to say I’d love you to me my neighbor. I’m trying my darnedest to follow your program with the budget I have... in the past the little advice I could afford helped a lot. This year I am hopeful I will get a great Bermuda lawn. Thanks!
I’m in ga as well. First time home owner and I want a yard I can be proud of. I will continue to watch your videos as they have been quite informative and helpful. “Lose the fear” didn’t know I needed to hear that. Thanks for posting. Would you be willing to look at my yard ? In person or I could send a video? I don’t know what type of if any grass I may already have but I do know it’s ugly and weed ridden.
Hi Doc, Two weeks ago, I put down “barricade’ - as a light coat of pre-emergent. I plan to put down one more light coat of barricade this week. How many weeks must I then wait before plug aerating and then over-seeding with Fescue? Temps are in the 60's to low 70's. Zone 7. North Carolina Piedmont.
Some day Bermuda grass is a invasive weed itself. I wish I could use it up north though. I have to use Kentucky blue and fine or tall fescue. I just aggressively raked and dethatched my lawn. Next pulled all dandelions with roots attached as well as ever weed I seen as I went, I mean I seriously scratched my lawn. Next I will use drop spreader to drop more weed killed. Then dethatch again, rake and over seed. It's all I got and I only have this and next season to get it done before I sell and move back South.
Thanks for the video Doc! Is there a spreader you'd recommend for a very small yard (patio home size, about 1000 sqft)? Also, how can I tell what type of grass was planted in my late-90s TX home that is now just dirt and weeds?
I am following your journey doc, I have some type of zoysia but 90% weeds and killing it with preemergent and dimension all of the recommended mixes you mentioned. Then I’m going to push pgf complete, humichar. I will have to buy super juice. Your videos and website are helpful, I’m in GA as well
Hey, Doc! I put down a spray Dimension about 3 weeks ago. I also sprayed dimension in the beginning of January and put down a granular. What are your thoughts on putting down the barricade pre emergent within the next week to be sure my lawn will stay weed free through the majority of the upcoming summer? My lawn is basically weed free as of now, but I wanna be sure I’ve put the pre-emergent down heavy enough. Also waiting on a bag of humichar to arrive. Already put down your pgf balance 10-10-10 about 3 weeks ago as well. Waiting for a bit longer to see more green in the yard before putting down my pgf complete. Been following you for years and your advice is all I follow and recommend to my closest friends. You’re truly GOLD!! Thank you!!👌🏽
Hey Doc. I really enjoy your channel. I am about 20 miles NE of Atlanta. I have a healthy patch of St Augustine that slowly is taking over my bermuda. I would like to eliminate the St. Augustine.. Last year i attempted to spot treat with a weed killer and otherwise pull out the St. Augustine. I was hoping to selectively kill the St. Augustine without ripping out and resodding. Any ideas to kill the St. Augustine?
Most of my yard is tilled dirt, well clay dirt. The front is all weeds and I will be following your plan for that. In the back yard, there us some type of grass growing in some place (either Kentucky or fescue not sure what a previous landscaper I used put down back there). How do I get rid of that grass and get my Bermuda back growing in the yard back there? Also man I can just hire you lol
It feels like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back, I'm always learning something. Trying to level my yard here soon for my Bermuda before it starts getting hot outside here in NM, thanks for the tips. Question, I have some pre-emergent, should I lay a little down before leveling? Amateur here, just trying to figure things out!
One section of lawn is very weak with the bermuda. Some areas where you can see the soil. I did not put pre emergent down this season or any weed killers at end of last year (sod - 1 1/2 year old) just humichar and the balanced fertilizer. Weeds have infested this patch worse than other areas. Other areas I'm not too worried about because they seem to have gotten fairly well established unlike this 40 x 40 area. Is it safe to go after the weeds in this area (with PE, and the listed week killers?)? I understand there will be some damage but I do not want to kill the struggling bermuda. Can see the brown of the dormant bermuda throughout. Thanks (and no need for plastic surgery for you! lol) Tom
Doc Im a huge fan thank so much for your videos everything I know about lawns is from your videos. I just bought a brand new house but the sod looks rough. Should I apply this same program? WOuld it be an over kill to do this or should I just spot treat? I would say is 70% Bermuda 30% weeds (poa annua and yellow nutsedge). Is starting to wake up I already put down Humichar(heavy) and Anderson pre emergent (heavy). I have 4-D and Image on stand-by for deployment. Thanks keep the videos coming!
Thanks Doc for the update. I have put down my pre and humichar. Waiting a while to spray Q4. My yard is mostly Bermuda and a fescue blend. After the post application will the nitrogen push help the Bermuda overtake the fescue? Will Arden 15 overseed help in the dense fescue areas? Origin is Middle Tennessee.
Doc, we just had Bermuda sod installed September 2020 and it is now 80% weeds. When would you say it's safe to start this process of killing the weeds?
If he doesn't answer, I would apply light coat of Dimension 2EW a light coat of Image mixed with the superjuice ... I believe he has it on his site... Depending on how many weeds there are you could also try doing a "hot shot" method where you spray directly to one weed at a time and use a tennis bald with a wrag to brush the concentrated treatments on the weeds that you want to kill vs spraying the whole yard
Doc mentioned in another comment that he does not recommend STRONG liquid fertilizers on newer sod ( I believe new sod would be younger than a year imo)
What is the difference between the PGF balanced 10-10-10 and the PGF complete 16-4-8 that you've recommended in previous videos? How do I know which one to get? Thanks!
Love your videos although I have Fescue Our HOA has Bermuda in all the common areas- I do prefer Fescue it doesn’t take over like Bermuda when it dies that’s it. I had a question. Ahhhhh I’ll treat my weeds as you posted. Make sure the weed killer will be alright with Fescue?? That’ll be fine ? I had sod which is gone mostly
Doc, correct me if I’m wrong but I’m going to follow even though I have Meyer zoysia in Pennsylvania and adjust accordingly to temps... right or wrong????? Thanks
Hello this video is exactly what I needed to see, thank you so much for your knowledge and sharing. I do have one question for you or anyone who can answer, should the yard be aerated at any point throughout this process? :)
How do I get rid of fescue in Bermuda? Seems like my only option is round up at this point which I really don’t want to use. Everything else I have tried will not get rid of it.
What should be done with the dead weeds whose roots are still attached to the ground? Will it automatically decompose back into the soil or can we pull them out?
I need to know too. I have same problem here in oklahoma. Seems like my dead crabgrass is growing back. My pre-emergent treatment didnt work yet. Ive been pulling about 10 weeds a day. 100,000 more to go. I will follow reccomendations in this video and see how that goes.

Just bought a beautiful house in Oxford, MS. The lawn looks ok when cut but it’s full of everything. How do I know what type of grass it should be? A lot of Bermuda lawns here in Oxford, some st Augustine, zoysia, not a lot of fescue. Probably too hot.
Doc, I noticed you said when putting down pre emergent to really put it down. Is this the case for horrible lawns only or also for lawns in fair shape. I live in Pa. and have a yard with mostly tall fescue but battle goose grass, clover, and yellow nutsedge, with a few spots of Creeping Charlie.
So what do I do if my lawn was never sodded? Just bought my first house and my “lawn” is like 60% weeds (everything and anything that grows in Florida sun)10% sparsely seeded Argentinian Bahia, and 30% bare sand patches. Imagine your ugly lawn with bare sand where the st.Augustine was.
Last year I bought a house that had sod in the front and nothing in the back but an old hay field. I put out common bermuda last year and I did not put it down right or water it right. Some took, but mostly weeds. This year I am putting down Maya Blackjack. But I have weeds. I have spayed three times and put down PE. I am going to spay one more time before putting down seed in May. What are your thoughts prior to sending?

Hello Doc, I have been watching your videos on Bermuda, my question is, I'm in Georgia and some of my neighbors have been burning their lawn in early spring, is this helpful or does it harm the Bermuda grass.
Doc, I have like a green algae growing on top of my dirt where the weeds have been killed off and some in between where I have grass out in the yard. Some areas are shaded but out where I get a lot of sun it's doing it too. Any Ideas?

What I'm confused about is if I should apply pre emergent this year or skip it because I might have big bare spots that might need seeding. I know you don't recommend seeding but my yard is all common Bermuda. It was never sodded.
I have 2 bare sections on my zoysia from weed killer of my dollar weed in the fall. I plan to overused them in June. As Doc said, we just have to be ok with the ugly season and im going to push nutrients now until July.
Hey Doc I live in New York ( Long Island Nassau County ) will & is Bermuda good for here ? My neighbor says Kentucky Blue Grass . I just have a front side and back um yeah full of weeds mostly crab grass . Wanted to email you but I did not see how . Thank you if you can help .
Good video. I wish we didn't have to maintain a lawn at all. All that water wasted and all the cancerous chemicals used to kill the weeds. Need to have a more efficient system
I have both Bermuda and St Augustine in my yard in central texas so can I use Granular Pre-Emergent in DG Particles on both these types of grass? Love your videos🥰
I think it's time for you to dub the new worlds worst yard (wwy) ... The OG WWY is not longer a crappy yard... Good Job Doc.. I'll be trying to resurrect my cousins lawn ( of yeeeears of neglect) this season.
Here’s one for you Doc. My Bermuda was “invaded” by Magnolia weed two years ago, and nothing I have done will kill it! I called the extension and they recommended spot treatments with a liquid weed killer, but it killed the grass only, and not the damn weed. Have you ever heard of Magnolia weed? Need help please.

Good video. I wish we didn't have to maintain a lawn at all. All that water wasted and all the cancerous chemicals used to kill the weeds. Need to have a more efficient system
Are you gonna shave during this year’s fishing trip?
Doc what type of grass is on your golf area..
dwarf bent and blue
I have both Bermuda and St Augustine in my yard in central texas so can I use Granular Pre-Emergent in DG Particles on both these types of grass? Love your videos🥰
5:19... BUSTED!! Look at the paint on the left had!!
Ya... that's it... we just paint the lawns year after year. (DA)
Give the guys at do my own a call. I have not dealt with it.
🤔What if you don't have Bermuda?
Better yet, what if you don't know what kinda grass you have?? 😳😳
I can't put down weed killers....I got 5 young kids running around in bare feet. I want a way that won't possibly harm my children. It ain't worth it!
Weeds are pretty too.
Wash their feet before they come in the house.
