From what I've heard, this was supposed to be the follow up (or at least in the same series as) Bangalter & Falcon's "So Much Love To Give" and "Together". Prydz 100% stole it after he heard it, but that's just music.
@@TimWrightDJ Yeah, but again, whoever can get the permissions, the singer, copyright and distribution rights to the song are the ones who get the credit, despite that it was done by different people. But again, had Eric Prydz not do it, we would have had another artist attempt their own version of the song that would have never got off the ground to begin with.

I first heard this particular mix in 2004 at Global Gathering. It was playing in an arena called 'The Beach' around 8:30 9:00ish, just as the sun was going down and I was coming up off my first pink loveheart of the night.
I normally skip past this song thinking oh it's just Call On Me. WOW now I'm listening to this version 👌 awesome 🔊
Finally, I waited 20 years for someone to have the guts to re-make the version from Bangalter & Falcon.

I took this from the soundboard DJ Falcon's 2003 set at Onelove. He also played this in 2006 and 2014.

Fun fact - after Prydz "stole" this from Bangalter and Falcon, he signed it to Ministry of Sound who wanted to clear to sample before releasing it, for financial reasons. They went to a company called Sampled Heaven, who were building a reputation for replaying samples to sound almost identical to the originals (I know, too, as I also used them myself in 2005). The story is that they were struggling to get the vocal to sound right, and approached Stevie Winwood who actually agreed to come in and re-record his own vocal. Rumour also has it that they re-recorded the entire Valerie track, but I don't know how true that is.
Ministry of Sound first offered to release their version but they refused so they got Prydz to remake it and release it without credit to them. First came the "Daft Mafia" remake which Retarded Funk stole. It's basically the same Retarded Funk version but also has Lovelee Dae. Then Eric remade the stolen Retarded Funk version. His initial demo first sampled the original 1987 version, but there were copyright issues, so they redone vocals with Winwood and Replay Heaven and Prydz swapped the new samples and boom. That's the whole rabbithole summarized. You can find the demo by searching Eric Prydz - Call on Me (Thomas Bangalter & Dj Falcon Calling Remix) or try to find the video Eric Prydz - Call on Me (Original Mix) which has a photo of a vinyl. You will instantly notice the difference when you hear higher pitched vocals because it's the same sample as in the Together version. I don't think the Daft Mafia version is on RUclips, so I'll have to find the CD that I had it on.

The company was called Replay Heaven, not sample heaven. There is a snippet of the re-recorded Valerie on their website so that proves it

Amazing! One thing has been bothering me though. This is an incredibly clean version, don't get me wrong, but there's a huge difference between this version and the original. If you compare time stamps at 2:32 on yours and the original there are two widely different things going on. Lovelee Dae also comes on at the 4:01 mark in the original. Other than that this is amazing work!
Edit: I didn't account for the intro that you added. The time stamps still don't quite line up though. Please correct me if I am mistaken

Would you happen to know if there are ANY (clean or not) versions of the Bucketheads The Bomb/Romanthony - Testify #2 (Soul Vamp)/Demon - You Are My High (Vitalic Remix) mashup that appeared after "So Much Love to Give" from the Pay And Go Groove City set that many cite as Call On Me's original appearance? Or if it may have been a one off. Love the mix but not versed in all the sets from the period and would love to know where to look if it was a concept they were experimenting at all elsewhere. I love the original Bucketheads track (and Chicago it was sourced from) but also fan of the 2010s dark synth (original style synthwave and sorts like it, Kavinksy, Carpenter Brut etc) and it has a lot of that feel but WAY earlier and still danceable unlike the super dark/hard stuff, it really intrigues me. Figure you would be good to ask if anyone.

The person who uploaded this was able to record directly from the soundboard, courtesy of DJ Falcon.
It's the from the Onelove set. It's edited and cut so there are no annoying pops as in the set recording. It also misses an additional beat part which would play at around 1:30

The synth chords in this super clean version are like sweet honey to my ears. Does anyone know if it’s taken from steve winwoods valerie or did they recreate the chord progression in this track? I can’t imagine it was this clean back in the day when good mr winwood released the original. Edit: I found the 1987 version which is way cleaner than the original, maybe that’s where it’s from?

Apparently it was recorded with permission directly from the output of the soundboard.

Eric Prydz remade it with a new recording of the vocals. The original was a remix of ‘Valerie’ and other songs, made by DJ Falcon and Mr. Bangalter from Daft Punk.
