I got my first Cabbage Patch doll Christmas of 1984. My dad couldn't afford one, so one of his friends secretly bought it for me. We attended their big Christmas party, which was video-taped, so my reaction when opening the doll has been captured forever. Let me tell you, I cried and so did a lot of the adults in the room. They were all moved to see the little poor girl get her Cabbage Patch doll!
That is so sweet and moving ❤️
Nice
It is nice and sort of sweet, but also really bad. It is sad and bad how terribly capitalism (and marketing and consumerism tied to it) has its effects on people.
This "commercial" video was also kind of disturbing for me to watch.
How much those things cost back then?
That’s so thoughtful and kind of them. That brought a little tear to my eye.
How many are here after seeing cbk videos from mind unveiled in 2023 🤔😅
Me 🙂 your not alone. It's interesting decoding the stuff that was in our face the whole time.
Quarantine is making me look up some weird shit

The boys back then sure seem well spoken for their age compared to children now.
I loved my cabbage patch when I was little and I can say why. First off, the fact that everyone had them made me want one. Everyone talked about them, played with them and they were everywhere so it was always in the forefront of my thinking
But the whole experience was why it was so special . From the Adoption papers and given names to the oath it made for a whole experience . Of corse we had to check their butts for Xaviers signature . Also there were so many different types and for the first time were different nationalities. Each were unities.
One other thing was all of the clothes and merchandise that came with or could be purchased for the doll. The first doll clothes to come out that looked real. I remember my boy doll having blue jeans and a wind breaker. This was a few years after the first one came out. Those blue jeans were quality and comparable to what you could buy for real babies . You could by diapers , shoes, hats , car seats, bottles, strollers and I think they had little diaper bags. All of this wasn’t available right away but even the real clothes and diapers helped these babies sales soar .
The last thing I’d say is that they were soft and could be cuddled . Most dolls had been hard plastic before that . Toys that can be snuggled are always more of a hit with the girls . This is why rainbow bright was so popular . Also her horse was first made plastic and when they turned her into a plush sales soared .
I have small amount of vintage toys and I think there were fewer toy company’s and less types of toys so you get more superstar toys just like with singers and actors of that time and earlier .
Hey Heather cabbage patch babies have cute little eyes. Lol
This makes me miss my 12 cabbage patch dolls, especially my first one. She shared the name of my Mom too. Damn.
You've never met well spoken children in this era today?
@@ginamm7393 i just said they were well spoken in comparison. There’s definitely a difference .
@@heatherscancerjourney Agree to disagree.
Damn I never knew this existed that's crazy and great marketing
I love how she said "teenage children" because that's what they are. They are still children vs now, teenagers acting like adults and being glorified for it.
Sadly, yes, I’m twelve nearly 13 in a couple of months, and I question myself why teenagers act like they are 20, lol
@@PhoebeSaturrnn lol me too. When I was your age I was in no hurry to grow up. My peers told me I needed to act more like an adult, but I wanted to enjoy my childhood while I still had it.
The real problem is they have adult interests without adult responsibility! Shame on them !
@@clizbot Shame on them? They’re being targeted 24/7 by companies making them feel inferior for a dollar. You’re not sexy enough. Buy makeup. You’re not cool enough. Buy these sneakers. Buy! Buy! Buy! Done have money? Sell us your souls, sell us your time - scroll, scroll, scroll. The more time we steal from your life and family, the more ad revenue we make. Watch! Worship! Belong!
Don’t blame the kids. Blame capitalism.
Yes it is terrible and disgusting. I have never played games imagining i was nurturing something - that idea always disgusted me and also i always knew i was a kid anyway....,so it also sounded stupid to me.
I still have my cabbage patch dolls from the 80s. I also take care of my brothers doll for him. I don’t know how my mom did it, but she was the best. I’ll forever cherish those memories.
I’m gonna cry. It’s so beautiful
Watching this whilst high was terrifying.
Bahahaha
Serves you right
I'm terrified and not high. It's creepy.
@@alesiasinspiration I also think this is really creepy.
I got my first premie when I was 11. His name is Todd. Have many . But my prize ones are cabbage patch bride and groom. Stayed up til about three in morning to make the bid . I finally won. They were def big in the 80’s.
It was like Build a Bear but with Cabbage Patch dolls :) Awww sorry I missed it. This was the year I was born...my parents aren't sorry they missed the craze. They had twins! Lol. It wasn't always easy when we both wanted the same kind of doll.
Right it was build a bear for us 90,a kids and American dolls
This is so precious, never had a cabbage patch kid though!
This poor child is scarred for life from this experience 😆
I still have my cabbage patch doll from the 80's
How old is it?
1985 'Arabelle' Blonde hair
I have my moms from the 70s
I still have mine for over 34years!!! My father bought it to me when I was nine. I will always have it no matter because my father bought it for me.
Lucky you
*Oh, for the love of Pete! I didn't realize they took the Cabbage Patch mess so far! I was lucky enough to get one when I was a little girl in the 80's (we were extremely poor/it was a gift from someone). Don't have the doll anymore but I still have the birth certificate & adoption papers.*
They're still doing this in Georgia, USA, nearly forty years since this came out.
I loved my Cabbage Patch kids! I thought it was really awesome that they have adoption papers with old names of Real people! I remember that the names were chosen from birth records from the turn of the century, I believe. I remember my first Cabbage Patch kid had the same name as my teacher, a name that is rarely used today. This was a cool trip down memory lane!😍❤️🌞🌈✌🏽✌🏽💜💜👏🏼. I am truly a kid at heart ❤️!
I'm 22 going on 23 this year and I still have my cabbage patch kids. I want to buy another one this Christmas.
That's so sweet!
Don't ask a boy his opinion of a doll. 🤣
That's sweet and cute. I guess back then it wasn't just about selling a doll, cause there were loads of other dolls and you could get a doll anywhere, but this one came with a fantasy and an experience that I think makes it more memorable and special for the child or whomever is getting the doll and buying it.
Awwwww I still have my little “premee” baby I picked out:)
Scary.
@@Iceis_Phoenix i still have mine too, its not scary or creepy, these dolls are a pure work of art, also the sets they came in (i have the first edition 1995)
I never will understand the craze behind dolls in general

The mom just looking at the kid like 👁👄👁
I did this in SF cabbage patch general hospital 🤗 there was a huge patch & you pulled him out! The old lady in the purple dress! 😎
Being someone who paints realistic dolls "reborns" . I can see why the cabbage patch kids have such a high place in peoples hearts. It's about the wonder that comes with them. I try to do the same when I create my dolls. My mom had a cabbage patch when she was younger . And I think that if you can give someone that sense of happiness and wonder it's worth it . Some people just enjoy dolls. Humans focus too much on how people should think and how people should act . Without asking why it makes people happy. You dont have to agree but dont try to strip away someone happiness to validate your own feelings
When you disassociate from Reality as an Adult then you have serious mental health problems.
Everyone dissociates lol during gaming for example or even knitting lol. You're oversimplifying
That little girl dose not give a damn at all on what’s happening lol, probably because she either dosen’t actually like dolls but is getting forced to do it, or she’s too little to actually be interested
I wanted one of these as a boy and no I’m not gay
me too when I was young boy and no it's not gay for anyone to have one cuz gay is liking and being in relationship with the same sex and not someone who wanted a cpk
@@sharker102 ikr and toys shouldn't be divided by gender, kids should play with what they want
I think a lot of little boys wanted these, regardless of what they might have said, and I thinks that's why they had boy cabbage patch dolls and showed boys playing with them in advertisements. Sadly, it didn't diminish stigmas :(
You don't have to be gay to own a cabbage patch doll.
@@looneytunes5590 boo hoo Tumblrina that's life move on.
Me at the end:nice cabbage patch kid
The real baby: 👁👄👁
I LOVED my Cabbage Patch doll when I was a kid. I still remember her and her red hair. And her smell. Wow, miss her sometimes. :(
I still have lots of Cabbage Patch kids.
Omg it’s literally so cute
Hey - boys wanted them too!
Why is the interviewer being so negative to the kids showing interest in them? Then at the end saying you can’t beat the real thing. Well most kids can’t have a real baby hence having toys. Question: is this in Australia? I thought the only place to adopt them was in Cleveland, Georgia USA?
The literal mania and hysteria for these things in the 80s is a mystery of life - WHY were we so obsessed with having these dolls as kids?? Subliminal messages in the advertising? 🤔 I really do wonder....
I still love my Viola Cecille and remember her adoption day. I wasn’t confused about the difference between dolls and real babies 😂
I remember seeing Cabbage Patch Kids on a TV commercial back when I was a child. Shame I never got one.
I got my cabbage patch today!
This is just WEIRD!!!!! I got mine for Christmas in a box and it was good! And that little girl could care less about this process! She was probably thinking these people are weird!”
When I was a child I got turned off to these because of the adoption papers. I felt that it was too much responsibility. Looking back at it, brags hilarious
😂 their marketing technique backfired !
I wonder why the dolls arent as populars as before. Kids now days dont even know about CPK
They are creepy to me
@@swagmaster28I find them creepy aswell-
I know right i mean these days kids have reborns made out of silicone i find them horrifying i like the vintage cabbage patchs kids so much
I played with my moms old cabbage patch doll when I was younger and I got one for Christmas i think when I was around 9 or 10 and this was only about 5 years ago
I love my cabbages
That kid at 2:55 sums it up perfectly
He's annoying
Now we have build a bear , kids will always love this.Every bear gets picked , made , dressed and given a birth certificate in 2020.
Vintage is better than modern
“It’s just a doll, I’d rather have a dog..”
Pubescent boys being the most sensible people in this video, lol.
It’s funny to hear her say that teens were going crazy over this.
It almost seems like a lot of teens now aren’t too afraid of delving into stuff like this (or at least it seems like it). I figured that teens tended to try and ditch toys in the 80’s, honestly.
I love this dolls because I think these babies look like real baby and they are like family to me and cute
I love the cabbage patch kids
yay me too they're def cute
Brings back good memories
Very interesting, thank you for sharing this with us!
I had 2 cabbage patch dolls
ima guy and had cabbage patch too
When I didn’t know what cabbage patch kids were i thought it was a horror movie
I have one and I adore it
I wanted a salad but now I have a child
God, what even is a Cabbage Patch Kid? It's like you're cutting into a head of lettuce, and, oh shit, a baby. It's like... I wanted a salad, but now I have a child.
Loved my Cabbage Patch kids when I was young in the 80’s
2:46 tf?
How did I get here, watching this on Thanksgiving Day 2020?
This idea of a doll orphanage kind of thing mixed with a hospital but instead using realistic dolls like the Diana collection or berenger dolls
I was 1 month old when this was filmed :/
A smack, a cry. welcome?
@John if the baby is crying then its healthy. All humans do it . Despite cultures.
I had one and the board game. I still have the cabbage patch doll horse :)
This must be the peak of western civilization.

I’m here because of my psychology professor.
Christopher is about 37 now!
Adopt me Adopt me I’m not a cabbage patch doll I’m real made me 😂😂😂
My mother had three growing up and she gave them to me. One of them is older and has hair, she looks about three years old, and i just showed her how she was born. Dont judge me
I always wanted a cabage patch baby girl but I never in my life ever received one at childhood
I love all my cabbies and they adore this video
I remember my first cabbage patch kid doll was named Melissa & I lived her to bits. I had a another doll who had blonde hair but I can’t remember what I named her.
Don't forget that they get mold inside their head
80s kids are lucky!
Bruh. The 80s were one hell of a drug
I got my CPK at the 90s. Then it was past on to my 12 years younger sister. Now my daughter has it. Wonder how far it will get.
I’m proud to be from the Cabbage Patch Kids’ home state of Georgia! Is Babyland General Hospital in Helen still around?
And then they get thrown away or set to Goodwill

I have the red haired doll in the back! The weird thing is that when you undo her pigtails she has a big part of her head thats bald-
My goodness memory I thought I never had unlocked but I’m a 90’s kid I remember them coming out of a giant cabbage at the toy store. Can anyone confirm lol

i was 3 when they came out - i had over a dozen cabbage patch dolls by the time I was 9 years old - my brother, who was 3 years younger than me, had 2 "boy" ones. he also had a pink barbie car too - and I played with hotwheels - we were best friends so we needed similar toys. nothin' wrong with it in my eyes. :-/
Does your brother still have his 2 boy cpk?If he does they could be worth money
anyone else here from tik tok but didnt know what your getting your self into
I like hpw the children weren't terrified by those demonic dolls
