  • Here are the steps to set up a Unifi Controller on a MAC OS device. If you are not interested in having a controller running 24/7 this is a great way to get Unifi devices up and running. You can then run the controller when you need to make any adjustments to the settings.

    I just downloaded this program and installed it. Download was fine, but when I tried to login after initialization, it never would work. I already had my controller setup and running, but I was hoping to be able to do additional management from my new Mac, but is it better to just control it from a browser directly?? Anybody know??

    Mine quit working after the latest update for the Mac. Monterey 12.6.1. When I open unifi network application it just stays on starting unifi.

    Unfortunately this workaround doesn't work any more. After allowing to run anyway I still get the security alert that Apple cannot control it for malicious software. Seems Ubiquiti is making it impossible for Mac users to manager our APs

      What version of MacOS are you currently running? Mine is still working.

    I have multiple unifi APs but not a cloud gateway. Can I use this WITHOUT having a physical unifi cloud gateway device ? Or is a cloud gateway device required to be able to manage the devices?

      If you don’t have any UniFi switches I believe you can use the AP’s with the UniFi App and a controller is not needed.

      I’m aware of that but the Unifi App is very basic and does not allow granular options like the controller.

    Good, straight forward video. I moved over to a mac mini to run my controller as my Gen 1 controller is not able to keep up, showing bizarre behaviour. I have slowing grown my home network to 17 Unifi devices and ~100 clients. QUESTION to anyone: Unlike the embedded controllers from Ubiquiti, there was options in the Web UI and Mobile app to restart the controller. I do not see that in the macOS version. Any thoughts on restarting the controller. Is quiting the controller on macOS from the UI (to simply quit, then restart) safe to do? Other thoughts? I kind of don't like the ability to restart the controller via the web/mobile UI (in macOS). Curious of other thoughts? Do I have this wrong?

      Yes closing the UniFi Controller window on your Mac will prompt “Are you sure you want to close the UniFi Controller? Click yes and it will close. I only run the UniFi Controller Application when I need to make changes to my network or log in to check something. Other than that it isn’t running 24/7.

    My mac can't see any of my unification devices on the controller, at all. I can't configure the firewall on my usg because the controller won't see it.

      Is your MAC plugged straight into the USG? Also is the controller running on your MAC, by going to Applications and then UniFi. Should be able to plug straight into LAN port on USG adopt it, and then plug a switch into the LAN port and plug your MAC into it and adopt the switch

    I just have a UniFi 24 port switch and can’t get into it to configure. Must I have s controller or dream machine for it to work?

    • @LowVoltageDesigns
      @LowVoltageDesigns  3 года назад +1

      If you just want to use the switch unmanaged you should be able to use it that way straight out of the box. If you want to be able to add VLAN’s and other configurations you would need to add it to a controller, but then once configured it can run with out the controller running. You don’t have to have a Dream Machine if you have another router/firewall you could have it join a controller running on a MAC like the video shows.

      @@LowVoltageDesigns appreciate the response. After installing Java 8 on the mac I was able to get in. I plan to use this as a switch for my Dante enabled audio devices. Thanks
