When I was a teenager, my father found several racoon kits milling around a dead mother and he brought them home. I learned a lot about how wild animals are not pets during that time. They are cute and their little paws are so amazing, but they are wild animals. I'm really glad you emphasized this in your video.
@@ragnkja I will never forget one of them who would wait until we opened a door to go outside and he would charge into the house and run straight for one of our cupboards and begin frantically throwing everything out looking for the box of cereal he loved. Beautiful clingy boy! It was hilarious to watch him climbing all over you haha! I also didn't know (or possibly forgot?) that raccoons relied on touch so much, which is kind of surprising to me since they're so common. I'm excited to see how he grows!

A few years back there was a litter(?) of raccoons born under my porch. I was in the country, and they weren't hurting anything, so I let them be. There were four, and they'd run around in the yard at night, chasing each other up trees. It was so much fun watching them, before they left.
Raccoons are impressive: smart, tough, adaptable omnivores. If they ever developed the ability and inclination to team up with the corvids for a coup, our position as dominant species would be history. ;)
Raccoon raccoon raccoon!!!! My favorite among the critters that have adapted to urban life. A lot of folks get annoyed with them but to me they are way less annoying (and less likely to damage the house!) than squirrels, hehe Ringo sure looks like he loves to cuddle! I'm betting that he won't have any trouble at all adjusting to all the touching! Also, giving him the little foot rubs (paw rubs?) was ADORABLE!
My great aunt is a rehabilitator for orphaned raccoons in florida!! great to see such a great home for one who got a little too attached to his caretakers :3
For some reason I didn’t think there were raccoons in Florida (probably because they’re so fuzzy that I assumed they would prefer colder locales). But now that I think of it, 1) Florida has a little bit of everything, and 2) there’s probably no place a raccoon couldn’t settle right in!
When I was about 8 yrs old, my dad found an abandoned racoon kit that might have been just a month or two old. Of course, I name 'her' Rachael, and she lived with us for a bit until my parents found a rescue center to take her in (this was pre-internet, so you couldn't just google it - LOL) She mostly ate baby food, and especially loved cream cheese & fresh pitted cherries, and her little nose & hands were always exploring! Love these videos, not just for the animals, but for learning your training routine, how you're helping them become ambassadors and enriching their lives. As well as the struggles and things you have to remember, even with the more cooperative rescues.
We have a substantial number of wild raccoons in our area. Our lot has a lot of oak trees (and their acorns) and a number of other forages for them, so on any given night, we might see more than a dozen raccoons. They usually come in family groups - there's one that is mom and her three kits (the kits for all the groups are about Ringo's size now), one that is mom and four kits, a lone younger male and a lone older male, and a group of mom and SEVEN kits. It was really fun to watch the kits getting bigger and being adorable.
Ringo is so cute! I appreciate the patience you have with all the animals, especially with ones known to be a bit feisty. It is so important to understand an animal usually only bits in a time of stress (even domesticated animals like cats and dogs) so knowing when to back off is an important skill. I also thank you for reminding everyone that racoons, despite living near humans, are not pets. That can be easy to forget when you see such a well behaved racoon like Ringo. Will Ringo be meeting/living with any of the other animals at Animal Wonders?
My cats showed a racoon the cat door , now he stops by about once a week for dinner sometimes he will even hang out and watch TV with us before he heads out .
Hey Jessi an idea for Ringo's enrichment. Try getting his paws wet with water it intensifies his touch. I noticed raccoons washing my sausages in the wet grass they were clean when I put them in the cooler. I'm guessing they were doing it for another reason. Another idea get some egg shaped pieces of wood and let Ringo dip his hands in different colours of food safe paint and give the wood egg to him to paint, then you can sell it. Glad to see another animal made it into your care.
I was told there are raccoons in my neighborhood but all I have ever seen here over the last almost 60 yrs is possum and squirrels and gophers. When I was a volunteer at a local animals shelter 25 yrs we had a baby raccoon brought in and it was eventually sent to a rehab group. They are cute and feisty too. Great Video ..Thanks Jessi:)

Pierre was Pierre for reasons I won't go into, but you can imagine how Cookie got his name. Dude LOVED Oreo cookies. SO MUCH. He loved them to such an extent that we could open the window, call out his name, and within a minute or two he'd come running up, any time, day or night, guaranteed.

OH MY GOD HE IS SO ADORABLE FSHKKKGRBLL **melts** || I'm pretty sure if I were an animal other than human, I'd be a raccoon. Tenacious/stubborn, curious, good climber, nocturnal, food motivated, semi-social, omnivorous, lives in dens. Yep! || I would love to harness train my ferrets, but it's very hard to keep ferrets in a harness. They can slip out of it no matter what, so I don't feel safe taking them outside on a leash. I did it briefly at the vet to let my boi try to potty (he didn't).. but I was extremely nervous the whole time, and brough him back in the car after only a couple minutes. If he'd caught sight of something he really wanted, he could have been out of the harness and down the street before I could do anything about it. All my ferrets could. But.. there's just no way to make a harness that ferrets can't get out of.
Raccoons are neat little animals. Not one you want to mess with though. As nice as he is, I can just imageon how big a handful hes gona be as he gets bigger lol Good thing hes in good hands! Good luck keeping him contained! I have occasionally checked in on Tito the Racoons channel so its nice to see more positive racoon vids with ppl that actually know about them.
I follow a couple people on instagram who have pet raccoons, and all of them are like, they need lots of supervision, they get into stuff, but can be sweet cuddle bugs. Before going to explore interesting things again. XD
They can also be touchy and bitey. Their skin hangs loose their frame and they can basically turn over to bite and claw anything that tries to get a grip on them.
I love raccoons so so much but i know they're not fit to be a pet and i couldn't provide a decent home for them anyway so i'm very happy to live vicariously through you haha. I can't wait for more videos featuring this very good boy!
There are a lot of training tips and obedience exercises people can learn from ambassador animals, zookeeper tactics or anyone working with “exotic” species. Things that can be hugely beneficial for dog & cat owners! Like when you gave the example of a puppy trying to wriggle-free of its collar, and said that their owner would likely just “pick it up,” to remedy the situation, that right there seems like a golden opportunity to refocus and help get the puppy used to the collar. If a dog is young like that, even better. Might even take to the training so well that they don’t need to wear it at home. I know dogs and some cats wear collars in case they escape, yes… but I think a highly obedient, trained and responsive animal that is accustomed to wearing a collar could earn a break from it. Provided your property is escape-proof. 😛 I just think someone picking up a puppy who maybe isn’t used to their collar yet is a prime example of what’s wrong with many “lax” dog and cat owners! And parents of kids! 🤣 Whatever is currently happening in their “baby’s” life experience, they want to coddle and make better, rather than kill two birds with one stone, help remedy the moment but also guarantee future success. If that makes sense.
Thanks for making a video about Ringo he’s so cute! I was wondering if you still have Rocket your other raccoon? If so how is he doing and has Ringo ever met him? 🦝

I love Ringo, he is so cute. Hope he is ok and is safe!
I freaking love raccoons! My dogs coloring is similar to a raccoon so I always draw that similarity.
I just think someone picking up a puppy who maybe isn’t used to their collar yet is a prime example of what’s wrong with many “lax” dog and cat owners! And parents of kids! 🤣 Whatever is currently happening in their “baby’s” life experience, they want to coddle and make better, rather than kill two birds with one stone, help remedy the moment but also guarantee future success. If that makes sense.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO ANOTHER BIRD UPDATE
Actually, why not do an update on all the animals? Thanks.
Yeah
What supplies do you need to rescue a animal
Amazing video!! when did you bring ringo here? why did you name him ringo?
Is he eating the seeds from that pine cone or did she hide some of his treats in it?
He's finding and eating treats shoved into the spaces in the pinecone, though he'd probably be happy to eat pine seeds as well.
🎵ringo raccoon
checked into his room
only to find gideon’s bible🎵
I mean, his name is Ringo! Haha
Ringo Starr 😂❤️
OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
Do you use flea preventatives on your animals that go outside, like Ringo here?
We do! Vaccines and parasite prevention is part of our program of veterinary care.
Thanks for making a video about Ringo he’s so cute! I was wondering if you still have Rocket your other raccoon? If so how is he doing and has Ringo ever met him? 🦝
Oh never mind I just scrolled down to see your reply about loosing Rocket. So sorry you lost him. 💔☹️
Hello
Ringo it’s very nice to meet you
so nice
Rings is so cute!
So super sweet
So adorable!
Absolutely adoreable!
Just out of curiosity but... what happened to Rocket? He had an introductory video over a year ago and haven't seen or even heard him mentioned since.
Side note: I love raccoons (notice my avatar). Welcome to the Animal Wonders Family, Ringo! I look forward to seeing more of you in the future.
I apologize that you didn't know. We lost Rocket suddenly and unexpectedly shortly after his debut video was made. We were quite sad about it so instead of making a sad video, we made posts on our Instagram and FB pages honoring his memory 💔
@@animalwondersmontana Ah, that explains it. I follow you on RUclips and Twitter, so yeah, I missed that. Sorry about that.
