I've been deep diving on Unreal for Filmmaking lately, but held off because I haven't been able to see it how it would work for me personally in my workflow...and then I watched this and you just totally blew me away. Great work! Huge fan! Keep it up!
@@zioxei Definitely. Slightly dodgy not to mention it in the title because a lot of people have come away thinking the people were rendered in Unreal, which obviously isn't the case. I know the guy's covering himself by saying 'all _environments_ rendered in UE5'(which is basically saying 'ONLY the environments are rendered in UE5') but people are dumb and won't necessarily read between the lines.
@@thesprawl2361 It's true that the majority of people are dumb (or more likely uneducated) but it's NOT that they don't read between the lines, it's that they are too accepting and want to believe that what they are seeing is completely CGI. They've been told for decades that CGI will eventually replace the need for human actors, therefore, they can't be faulted for thinking that it's been achieved with UE5.
@@metaspherz Coming from Blender and not having any idea about UE5 apart from the UE5 announcements... honestly, if you would've told me the people are rendered in UE5 i would've believed it. But that's mostly because (at least in blender) photorealistic people that just follow some tracking data are actually easier to put into a digital scene than compositing 2D movies into scenes with this kind of lighting. Like why would you do all the work of keying out people and dealing with all the colour grading, relighting, etc. when you could've just spent the money on tracking equipment... I mean at this point you can just generate like 50 randomized photoreal humans, throw them in a scene in like 5 minutes and render them in 8K in like 10min on a 3090 and it'll probably look better than most photos people take with expensive cameras....
@@IzzyIkigai That's not quite true though is it? Maybe with still photos, but with animated faces even the absolute most convincing facial facsimiles are spottable almost immediately if you've any experience. Animation in particular always gives the game away - even if it's motion captured there are little transitions or little adjustments they've had to make that give the game away. And with faces there's a smoothness to the facial animations that isn't quite right. We're talking tiny margins here but the effect is still the same: it doesn't look real. And this was quite clearly film footage. There's no rendering software on earth that looks anywhere near as real as these images of real people in this video. That Matrix video was decent but still pretty easy to distinguish the fakes from the real. OTOH maybe you have videos in mind that are genuinely photoreal, in which case I'd love to be proven wrong. This area of CG is so amazing.
If I ever ask myself if it was the right move for me to move my show production workflow to UnrealEngine, I will watch this showreel again. Absolutely incredible work! Way to encourage us little studios to push on and use the "new way" of producing video in our own setup.
Question: Are you recording the performances in real time in Unreal or compositing later? If you’re compositing later how are you taking that camera tracking data into Unreal?
THIS is the first engine that I literally can't tell if it's real life or computer !! Exciting but kinda scary at the same time - I want the Commodore 64 days back !! LOL :P
wonder if you could make tutorials about how you match the physical camera and virtual camera movements. I really appreciate a full tutorial in general. Amazing work
Hey, how long have you had to work with Unreal to achieve results like this? Ultimately, virtual production is my goal and I'm about a year in, but feel very far away from these kinds of results. I'm not sure if I'm not finding the right resources or just need more time with the program. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
This is Freakin awesome! Nice work Jaro Atry. I've been seeing more and more about unreal engine and now I want to start learning it. Never done it, but I'll try. Thanks for the inspiration. It looks virtually unlimited.....
The most genius part about this is replicating the in-engine lighting on the actor's face @0:50. "Lighting effects were created with pre-programmed moving spot lights and projectors."

0:52 matching the movement and shapes of the broken lighting was really impressive, way to knit the scene together!
What do you mean, you mean the camera moving backwards and the chairs in the air?
@@digitalwizard1608 he means the shadows and light, it matches the movement and shapes of broken lighting

Unfortunately I don't have time for it right now. Too much work.
Been learning Unreal myself, you do incredible work Jaro. Killer reel. Excited to see more from you
Can you recommend some tuts for absolute beginners ?
Do you mind sharing a link to where u watch your tutorial
... I get it's not real but I couldn't see anything that broke the illusion. It looks genuinely real.

amazing, how realistic the humans look like

Fascinating... Low budget movies are about to get a whole lot better.
