Thanks for bringing us some of this David. Would have been grand if there had been a 30+ minutes of all of you discussing ideas. Peter is always fantastic to get in front of the camera and spinning an idea of bringing back a younger cast as the older cast, would be welcomed by the fanatics of this franchise.
How Michaels looks have changed thru the yrs. Good to see all. Miss Stargate. Still catch episodes but if only they could have moved on it would have been phenomenal. Thx
This is a great idea. Resurrect SG with a new team, and we even have Jack's new incarnation leading it. That is propably what we old fans all think right now!
Honestly... if they could get a reboot going, Jack 2.0 would be an excellent choice since canonically it would make sense he would want to get back to the Stargate and do all that exploring stuff. After years of trying to live a totally different life, the gate bug just kept biting until he couldn't see himself doing anything else.
G'day Darren and Adam, I'm a retired film and TV critic/reviewer who appeared in national newspapers and on radio, here in Australia. I've always had an extremely high opinion of the Stargate series. The producers wrote outstanding episodes and the show has deep pool of other talented, writers. Unlike the 1994 feature film, the TV series got the casting absolutely right. Of course, in a long run of series'; not every episode is going to be an award winner, but behind every episode there was a genuine wish, I believe, to do the best with the available talent. It's never too late to bring back the core of a successful TV series that still has access to most of the attributes that made the TV series truly stand out from the pack. Even if the extremely talented Michael Welsh doesn't want to become an 'adult' Jack O'Neill, right now; I think he could be brought around to that concept. Michael, as a young actor, in just one episode, absolutely nailed 'Young Jack' that, even then, highlighted him as an actor with fantastic potential. I'm certain that a 're-boot' in time and story could be created to reclaim the huge audience of loyal fans that are still out there while bringing in a whole new generation of fans. So, how would producers deal with the natural, real-life, ageing of those cast members willing to sign back on? Creatively, of course. One wouldn't want to see just another, 'new planet - new villain of the week' structure; although that would have to occur, logically, but taking into account the progression of the characters through the 'series-timeframe' and with the careful introduction of new, regular characters that, like the original character/actor line up; worked like a charm. The producers and 'show runners' now have the added advantage of using the many demonstrable talents of Amanda Tapping as a Director and as an actor plus a producing/writing contributor. I sincerely hope that Brad and the other 'movers and shakers' involved in the original TV series have a serious look; taking stock of old and potentially new audiences because, as a stand-alone story line; I can't think of a story concept that could beat the original; except more of, well, something very similar. I think this is an almost unique case where few would criticise a 're-boot' as a 'cop-out' due to a lack of new inspiration. Essentially, a large part of 'Stargate V2' would be its new creative input. What must be retained from the original run, at all costs, is that same sense of 'fun' and 'family' from both sides of the camera that only came from a tight ensemble of actors and crew that believe in their 'mission' to deliver true drama without taking themselves too seriously all the time. You would be doing a huge favour to millions of fans, old and new, if you pressed home some of my thoughts to those special people that gave the world 'Stargate' the TV series. Cheers to you both and all the very best. Bill Halliwell P. S. I must be frank here and declare that I was unable to warm to the spin off series that came after Stargate wrapped. One of them was way too dark and introspective but the less said about those, the better.
Yeah, I just watched Insurrection yesterday. As soon as I saw him ("Artim"), I knew I knew him from somewhere else. It's his eyebrows. They don't look very distinctive now, but they were very distinctive as a kid. As soon as I saw his name in the movie end credits, I knew where I'd seen him.
He and Cadet Hailey could have been great together, would have been interesting to see Jack 2.0 and what is essentially Carter 1.5/2.0 on either a new SG-1 or briefly replacing them. Jack goes missing, Gen. Landry: "We need someone who can think like Jack." Sam: "Uh, general, we might have someone who can--" Jack 2.0 walking through the hall; "I already told you, Daniel, no! I am not doing that." Daniel and Jack 2.0 enter Landry's office Sorry, but that scene soundd perfect to bring back the clone
I always thought it was incredibly weak and kinda creepy they stuffed de-aged Jack back in High School. I mean they can accept aliens into the SGC but couldn't find a place for one of the most experienced, talented special forces operators with heaps of classified knowledge on account he wouldn't be recruitment age for what, 5 years and rather have him learning things he already knows partying with teenagers? I really hate that trope. It was a good episode other than that but man.. that drove me nuts.
I always saw it as what the clone wanted and that he was having a second go around now knowing what they didn't know as a kid the first time around. Also he probably wants to be his own person. Adult Jack even asked him if it's what he wants and he is very certain. Also I just don't think that both Jack's wanted to be around each other, one Jack is enough. For that reason if we ever see them again I'd like them to be a more science focused member of a new SG-1 team. Having gone a different direction with his second chance.
@@charlestownsend9280Other than the fact that the clone stated he wanted to go back to high school, I alwasy thought that Jack was always smarter than he let on given his role as a fighter pilot in the Air Force. Just the fact he was able to handle dealing with both Sam and Daniel being exuberant geniuses I've headcanoned Jack as secretly understanding what the technobabble meant but like with the Replicators in Atlantis just played dumb to divert attention

I always thought that if/when Stargate gets a new series a no-brainer would be to bring back young Jack in some form. It could be just an episode of the week, hey look it's young Jack passing through on the way to getting on an SG team... but in my mind he could potentially be the main protagonist and the hook to draw in viewers of the older shows. It's perfect since you'd expect him to be recast (if necessary) anyway, so actor availability is less of a problem than it might be to bring in other legacy characters. In my mind the series starts with young Jack fresh out of training, having managed to use who and what he knows to get into the Stargate Program, and having to deal with climbing the ladder of success in an SGC where a lot of the familiar faces have left and been replaced with fresh ones he has to prove himself to. He has to struggle with not being a Colonel any more.
That made me laugh because I read it as Maybourne somehow also getting cloned as a teenager and joining up with young Jack to get into ridiculous adventures, a much younger Starsky and Hutch. Harry is the one who gets into silly messes all the time, and clone Jack always bails him out.
If we ever get another show, part of me would love to have younger Jack as a main character but I also like the idea that this time around he embraced his intelligence and became the scientific expert 9n the team. That way it's jack but also not just redoing the same character and also following up a story for older fans. It would also be interesting as they would constantly be compared to the original Jack but also wants to be his own being but they're also close to who people compare him to and also wanting to live up to that version of himself whioe remaining themselves, it would make for an interesting internal conflict. There's definitely a lot that you could do with young Jack and that could be explored with the concept. Sure he is Jack but one who is basically a 40 year old in a teen body, who then back to high school akd lived a completely different life, one with the understanding of what comes next, all his past mistakes (like losing his son) and with the wider perspective of travelling the universe. That could make for a very interesting character. Also this Jack insists on his last name having three Ls.
He should go by "Johnathan" instead of Jack, also. Could also be funny if people who didnt know about the cloning just assumed he was Jack's kid. And i agree, he should be the new teams Carter but with Jacks humor.
@cernstormrunner7263 yes, everyone just thinking he's Jack's kid would be funny. Yeah I see them as basically the best of both Carter and Jack, her brains and his humour (which could be another reason people think he's their kid).
Given all the memories from high school and years of military experience, it would make him a slightly different character. Would have been nice if they had a small mention of Jack 2.0 in "200" alongside Brad Wright's cameo and the "Star Trek" and "Farscape" references
