The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
I live near the east coast A-10 practice range, and can attest that they also sound different when they’re pulling wing-over-wing turns during strafing practice. Also, we actually have had them start forest fires out there with mistimed flares.
Before I retired, I was a ground pounder, and I have been under an A-10 strike. It was amazing to look up at the plane around 250m up, and see the cockpit aimed at me.
@@qaszim2012 if you fly an F-16, 18 or 35, you might fly air to air or strike missions without friendlies in the vicinity. If you fly an A-10, you are a specialist. I far prefer the latter, if I or my people might be nearby.
@@svensvensson2724 sigh. Know any goat herders who belonged to an organization which allows retirement? Try and think, it will help. CAS, by definition, is done near friendly ground forces. That is why it is not simply an air strike.
Using A10 to launch Hammers would not be very efficient as it is very slow so that would reduce the range of the Hammers. Those are typically launched from medium altitude to remain outside SAM defense: the offensive plane would approach at very low altitude to avoid detection/SAM launch, pop up for a minute or less to launch the guided weapon (if using the GPS guiding system) and exit at low altitude. Laser or IR guided Hammers would only be used if long range SAM have been neutralised, thus allowing the plane to remain at medium altitude longer to guide the hammers.
They also rejected the offer for Thunderbolts. They dont want them, stating that they would be cannon fodder and a waste of ressources because of the enemies SAM and intercepting capabilitiees. Those planes need air superiority. F-16s are the better choice for SEAD missions, obviously. And thats what they will get.
@@Gentleman...Driverexactly this. You'd need to be suicidal to fly an A10 in that theatre. I love the A10 in all its ugly beauty. I fondly remember building models of it as a kid and hurts to admit it, but it's obsolete unless you're fighting in very specific circumstances
Fully support a grimreapers version of old top gear. The scene of clarkson in his 3 story homemade camper driving down the motorway screaming is by far the funniest bit of television I have ever watched. Calling it now. Simba will be like james may. Practical and reserved in every challenge. Just faster than captain slow
I dont think it will make a difference. AWACS advantage was completely negated by the fact that the area was covered by patriot, and hence the flight was not intercepted.
I think that's something people tend to forget when the f-35 was compared to the A10 as a close air support aircraft. The aircraft that doesn't take damage can get back into the fight sooner and the f-35 it could be argued would be better operating in contested. Airspace
Also I think ton originates from a Saxon word for farm or hamlet. You get so many Newton-something-or-others because settlements were always expanding into new ground and no one had any originality in place naming! 😅
As mentioned, the A-10 is excellent as long as it's side has air superiority. It would not fare well flying for Ukraine. As for the Russian artillery, they wouldn't be sitting in the open singly like that. They would be grouped in batteries or firing sections and covered by AA.
A-10s in Ukraine is a TERRIBLE idea. I refer you to Justin Bronk’s guest appearance on Perun’s brilliant PP RUclips show about Ukrainian air power. Listen to The Bronk.
People need to understand in war there are no health bars. An A-10 hit by a single round in the right spot will go down. An A-10 without air superiority is similar to a WW2 prop plane in survivability on the modern battlefield. An A-10 will not fly over the Russian, absorb 5 missiles & be able to attack the target.
@Grim Reapers Cap, unless you have access to info we plebs don't, that isn't what happened to the Patriot in Ukraine. The Russians allegedly spotted a Patriot system in transit from one location to the next with a drone, then they launched missiles at the convoy. The claim is that they destroyed two launchers for the system. They didn't get the radar. Habitual Linecrosser, who is a Patriot system trainer in the US Army said he can't positively identify the wreckage as a Patriot launcher, but it definitely wasn't a US built system. It may have been one of the German ones, if indeed a Patriot was hit. There are some who still maintain it was an S300.
We've also given JDAM-ERs to Ukraine that have a range around 80km [about 50 miles for the measurmentally challenged.]. Powered JDAM-ERs with a range over 500km are in the pipeline too.
A10 in ukraine ? rly ? this is impossible there are like 100 manpads for every plane that will be in the air like max 6km above and for below there is manpad for every 4 ppl :) every team on russian and ukrainian team has manpad... A10 in this conditions is like start -> shutdown
9:27 seems any A10 mission would roll in on targets located, imaged, and laser designated by UA drones flying above ... Night attack would make thermal targets pop. Anyone getting up to track with manpad becomes a gun, FPV drone, or APKWS target ... Drones high (1500 m) A10 mid (150 m) FPV low (15 m) Plus thought only A10C available for Ukraine.
Great Video Cap! Also is there any way I can apply to do Olympus for you guys? I would love to simply turn on and off enemy radars during missions. It’s a really interesting aspect of DCS.
Yeah, sadly they were stowed and in convoy. I'm still baffled by the fact that they stopped in a seemingly random place and that Russian recon drone could get that far behind enemy lines. With the loss of the first HIMARS and now at least 1 PATRIOT launcher, maybe 2, and the fire control unit, it seems like Ukrainian units are becoming a little careless or complacent. I hope this was a good wake up call.
1 of 4 Patriot systems were taken out. The German Patriot was taken out by Iskander. First Patriot and they lost the first HIMARS about a week ago as well.
CAP, can you ask CH or another dcs developer to make the following aircraft: F-15 GSE - Global Strike Eagle F-15 SE - Sea Eagle F-15 STOL/MTD aka F-15 Active F-16 MATV - multi-axis thrust vectoring The F-15 GSE flying around with an icbm on its back is definitely something Grim Reapers needs to try.
Ukraine is apparently practicing F-16 in Denmark. They never were said to come from the US but from some european countries. They only needed the US permission or something. I guess like the Leopard 2 thing and Germany.
Like nightmares weren't scary enough with the existence of missiles and bombs, ooh noo, lets make missile bombs! Screw you Freddy Krueger we got MISSILE BOMBS!!
Sadly it seems I will only ever get to see the Hod dressed in The Maryland colors in your channel. Thanks to whomever made this choice again. Last time they were turned into cargo haulers. Then brought back
@grimreapers Cap, I was just revisiting old vids of three years ago where you talked about the J35. And wouldn't it be great to make a "what if" scenario with the Saab J35 draken? Maybe in combination with the Gripen? The old Soviet Union wants to gain grip on the Baltic sea and expand, taking over sweden.
@@dexlab7539 Cap increased font size to make the text more readable. The (mostly) empty lines happen because the scoreboard "frame buffer" width x new font width is too big to fit into the message box and DCS inserts extra newlines. That's why you see a random "II" on the left side once the A-10 dies. Expect things to go back to normal next week but text will be slightly bigger than before.
Spark plug 4 afterburner onna rich A-10 ? ... surely it would be a glow-plug ? Technically , Diesel technology ? 🤔😁 I was expecting more Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttt . Just as an effective weapon , especially w/armour piercing .. 🙂 I'm also told above 5000ft AGL the engines are so quiet , ground-troops are unlikely to detect them . Just sayin' .. Love the channel btw . 😎
Ultimately, NATO F-35 pilots are going to need to put their thumbs on the scale in favor of Ukraine if we're unable to outfit them with a respectable amount of western aircraft. They could fly out of Eastern Europe and hit radars behind the front lines with weapons Ukraine is already using--can't use AARGMs, unfortunately--so Russia would have no way of proving they were there. Sure, they could monitor sorties from NATO bases, but how would they distinguish between a mission and an exercise if they can't track in flight? F-35s have internal stores, so they couldn't see what didn't come back on the rails, either.
Love ya Cap but nobody has ever called the A-10 a "Glass cannon". It is in fact quite a "Tanky cannon". P.S. The USAF had an A-10 vs F-35 CAS competition where the report was finally released several months ago. There was no clear winner because they didn't want to say that the A-10 won but the major findings were that there was such a huge disparity in load capability that they could not dismiss the A-10 and suggested that they work in consort.
I am ashamed as an American that we allowed the French to beat us to that acronym. The F35 is a great aircraft, but it can't do the job that the A10 does, not really. It just isn't suited to the role... there's a big difference between a strike mission and CAS in the real world. Visibility and SA mainly. And at under 10,000ft the F35 is no more survivable in a contested or nonpermissive environment... maybe less so than the A10 since it's louder so the Strela gunners may be more likely to get the shot off. The A10 is also less vulnerable than attack helicopters and Bayraktar drones but... SAM crews are definately falliable and we've seen SHORAD and EW suites killed by the things they were meant to counter. So there's still a place for them on the battlefield. THAT SAID... with the Olympus mod you have now, it'd be super cool to have an F35 vs A10 competition for realistic, reactionary, non-pre-plotted CAS mission. A thinking, maneuvering enemy of indeterminate strength really complicates things. It'd be good fun to watch and the FINEST of science.
I think we could give them to ukraine but maybe their could be some sort of mercenary thing set up if the situation gets very dire like in china with the flying tigers. I'm sure a lot of A-10 pilots would want to help, and their plane is literally designed to fly there, and destroy tanks.
@@grimreapers thanks, I just bought the A10C II but the A10C also shows up in DCS with different training missions. I dont know the difference between the two A10 versions, so should i start training missions in the regular C or skip those and to into the C II training mission right away?
@@emmata98 I'm not going by Cap's word choice but by the actual capabilities of the systems. Though I think I've sometimes seen the term "electro-optical" used for infrared too.
With Russia running low on AWACS, it is rumored that they are filling some gaps with Drone Swarms. Is this something that can be modeled and evaluated in DCS, or is it lacking the assets?
CAP, I was looking up past videos and I noticed it's been a while since you did any sort of low level competition. I was thinking you could set up a competition based on each era, ww2, Korean, Vietnam, gulf war, and 5th Gen. You could find out which aircraft was the best low level aircraft per era. Obviously aircraft must stay under a certain height and require some sort of simple target to take out to complete each run.
Well spotted! There have been changes in the DCS damage system which mean canyon runs no longer work. Hard to explain but you'll have to trust me on that one. Shame :(
It'd be nice if the DCS devs would flesh out the rest of the world and then "Mission commanders" could choose to load in a "block" of terrain where the mission takes place and then the rest of the world is flat.
I think no small thing like few cruise missiles and jets or tanks can help Ukraine from this point. They need help high in volume. I am talking about 300 Abrams for example. But no one in USA would support that. Which means USA once again will lose a war because of their population. Just like Afghanistan just like Vietnam. Sad for me because in Ukraine USA had the best argument for their intervention.
Wars are fought on a budget and A10 cost $18 million. F35's cost nearly $80 million. The A10's cost a fraction of what the F35 costs to opperate and maintain and they can opperate from primative runways with comparitively minimal support. The F35's can't. Getting rid of the A10 is a really bad idea.
There's a flaw in your logic. The F-35 is able to operate the newest weapons the US and NATO have, A-10 would need another modernization package. F-35 can do longer range missions utilizing stealth to perform interdiction, A-10 necessitates air superiority to not be blown out of the sky instantly. F-35 can exceed 20k feet with ease. The F-35 is in current production while new A-10's haven't been made since the VERY LATE 80'S. Why keep a nearly 50 y/o airframe in service and force it along like a quadriplegic coma victim?
Sir It appears that your data is incorrect. The newest modernizations of the a-10 cost almost a 100 million$ a piece. So yes the wars are fought on budget, and so they are. Also, What about the questionable effectiveness of this airplane? During the Desert Storm a lot of F-111 were put to CAS missions especially due to the poor effectiveness of the hogs. And don't even say anything about friendly fire accidents.
United reality these things fly pretty fast at low altitude which compared to a car 120 mph pretty fast in a car they're going twice that sometimes three times that sometimes even four times that just depends and the way DCS makes it look like they're just barely doesn't do the A-10 Justice
"we're too politically incorrect"....to get Clarkson's job??? 🤦♂️ It's as if Dad jokes were mudwrestling b-side Daily Mail headlines .. which would make fairly good TV come to think of it 🙌

Cap being told to go do Grim Reapers A-10 tutorial is gold 😂
Awkward...
I first read ASMR bombs and wondered what they could possibly be whispering on the way down.
😅😂 that's funny

My wife & I learn so much from your Landing Techniques... 😊😊

As mentioned, the A-10 is excellent as long as it's side has air superiority. It would not fare well flying for Ukraine. As for the Russian artillery, they wouldn't be sitting in the open singly like that. They would be grouped in batteries or firing sections and covered by AA.

The patriot killed in Ukraine was being moved while hit.

Where were they practicing on dcs? The stoneburner surver?
Love ya Cap but nobody has ever called the A-10 a "Glass cannon". It is in fact quite a "Tanky cannon".
P.S. The USAF had an A-10 vs F-35 CAS competition where the report was finally released several months ago. There was no clear winner because they didn't want to say that the A-10 won but the major findings were that there was such a huge disparity in load capability that they could not dismiss the A-10 and suggested that they work in consort.
One thing that has been bothering me all along: the roads are WAY to narrow.
Why France did not name them Martell's is beyond me. Who cares about an acronym when the French are designing a hammer?
Why the older ones only have 6 mavericks and 2 sidewinders? It can hold at least a couple bombs also cant it? Model one with aim 120 D's lol
Decoy and destory using drones a10 etc.
I think we could give them to ukraine but maybe their could be some sort of mercenary thing set up if the situation gets very dire like in china with the flying tigers. I'm sure a lot of A-10 pilots would want to help, and their plane is literally designed to fly there, and destroy tanks.

I’d love to see more flanker bases content.
If Zelensky sees this video he's really really gonna want some A-10s
Wars are fought on a budget and A10 cost $18 million. F35's cost nearly $80 million. The A10's cost a fraction of what the F35 costs to opperate and maintain and they can opperate from primative runways with comparitively minimal support. The F35's can't. Getting rid of the A10 is a really bad idea.
Well, thank the Lord that the US can afford it
How much is the pilot worth?
There's a flaw in your logic. The F-35 is able to operate the newest weapons the US and NATO have, A-10 would need another modernization package. F-35 can do longer range missions utilizing stealth to perform interdiction, A-10 necessitates air superiority to not be blown out of the sky instantly. F-35 can exceed 20k feet with ease. The F-35 is in current production while new A-10's haven't been made since the VERY LATE 80'S. Why keep a nearly 50 y/o airframe in service and force it along like a quadriplegic coma victim?
