Bought this gun on Friday after watching this review about 20 times over the past few weeks. Found out today (Sunday) that my wife and I are going to be parents! Now I'll have to watch all your parenting vids. Thanks for everything you do man, especially the philosophy and CTA videos. Keep it up!
I want to make excused to go and shoot this gun more. The Sig MCX, with my better trigger installed in it, is a total win. We've seen a lot of under delivered, over promised RUclips-hyped guns haven't we? That is NOT the MCX. You will see here the MCX is a smart, tough, lightweight design that may be the best thing that's ever threatened AR-15 supremacy. Buy one. -nutnfancy

Same guy designed the Sig 516 piston AR. I have a Gen 1 516 that I picked up when they first released and it is superb! Not many people raving about those and I believe it's the best piston gun out there...........
"i dont make negative reviews anymore" well shit, i dont watch videos to be sold a product, i watch to find out what to avoid. Youre good at selling stuff nutnfancy, but i dont always want to be sold a product.... thats what sootches channel is for
"Thumbs way up" yeah I like when Nutn talks shit about guns when they're hyped up. Almost expected it from this review until the 30 second ad was over and he started talking XD
This is by far the best vid you've done. I've watched it 5 times and am waiting for my mcx to arrive, thanks for entertaining us all at such a high level.
I was amazed when Sig advertised the full size coming in at 6 lbs. For some reason I knew it was too good to be true. 7 lbs 3 oz with irons sounds about right for a well-designed piston AR type rifle.
Spot on, the MCX is ground breaking in terms of a modular carbine system. Hopefully Sig will come out with the caliber exchange systems soon. I plan to get the 7.62x39 barrel & 5.56 barrel, and par down some of my excessive collection of rifles.
Darn you Nutnfancy... I just finished "realigning" my firearms collection, getting rid of stuff I don't shoot and now you've made me blow my entire Christmas gun budget on a MCX lol. These were on my radar, I've been contemplating one for months, this was enough to put me over the fence and order one.
I think I would have prefered a side charging handle instead of the typical AR style, this way when you have to charge it with a scope on like Nutn has it, you aren't trying to squeeze your fingers in there. I LOVE the ambi controls but I'm disappointed the trigger sucks even though that's an easy user fix. Overall love the look of this rifle but I really can't wait to see the reviews on the Desert Tech MDR! That's been the rifle I've been holding out for since it's intro a few years ago.
Super happy you did this review nutn. At Gunnies we have had these instock since summer and people just haven't grasp the awesomeness of this weapon . You have severed it good justice. Happy to hear about the suppressor function with that taper barrel. That was the only thing holding me back from getting one for my personal use. Gunnies price $1695
I bought this rifle about 6months ago and it's by far my favorite rifle I own or ever fired...once I put a new trigger in it i thinks it will be flawless.
So great to see you excited for a new gun! Also really loved the knife combo vid! thank you so much! These TNP videos cannot be easy to make, and I really really appreciate the work you do!
The more I learn about the MCX the more I want one. Admittedly, it doesn't have 2nd cool to me personally but I am highly impressed with how it's performing.
I'm thankful for you, and your channel, Nutn! Not much of a commenter here. But I do love this channel. You are always a top-notch reviewer. Many of the things you review are rich for my blood. But I get LOTS of great ideas and a SUPER good attitude toward life. Thanks for keeping it real. All the BEST for you and yours.
I was at my local gun shop today and I saw an mcx that they had just gotten in. I had to get my hands on it. Oh my god did I fall in love with it. I think I know what my tax return is going toward! Great table top as always!
You should do a PWS mk116 review, that would be awesome. It's a longstroke piston ar 15 that's fairly lightweight, soft shooting and has great accuracy potential. It's in the similar price range for the Sig MCX as well
Wow, 2nd kind of cool of this gun is through the roof for me. Totaly love the looks and design. 1st kind of cool seems outstanding too. Loved your review Nutn, keep up in excelent work!!!
Nutnfancy, finally a Sig rifle video! Great video of course. I am intrigued by the MCX, just don't know what it really does that my Sig 556s (multiple variants) can't, except being slightly lighter and AR controls, but I'm a AK, Mini14, 10/22, M1A guy, so I like the charging handle to be where God intended it to be. I like the military pedigree of the 556s, though the development of the MCX is intriguing too, even though I recall the 516 also was designed by the same team as the 416, so I read on HK forum. The 556xi is supposed to do the barrel swap/caliber conversion thing too. Haven't seen those kits available. Finally, we need to see a Sig p220 10mm video. I know, heavy, but I promise you this pistol is freakin bad ass.
TNP i did your 1 mile challenge on halloween taking the grandkids out trick or treating. I didnt have my rifle on but i did wear my plate carrier with all 4 plates, NBC pouch, first aid pouch, camelback, pistol and mag, 6 ak mags a shotgun shell pouch with 25 00 buck shells and a Pasgt helmet. we went 1.5 miles out and back over 4 hours. when i was back at home i bent down to give my 2 year old grandson a hug and I couldnt get back up :) without help. it was truly difficult and my rig was over 33% of my body weight. still feeling it today. I am also right around 50 yrs old and not in the absolute best shape but wanted to try it to see how well i could do. I know this wasnt a continuous walk/run but it was a long distance and a long time in the gear as i was in it for a total of 5 hours. kudos on this challenge i didnt think it would be so hard as it was. Im still trying everything i can to decompress my back from an inversion table to hanging from my knees at the park on a chinup bar. I had lost just over 70 lbs in the year prior and if i hadnt i wouldnt have been able to do this. Keep up the work I felt this helped me to get a realistic view of where i was and where i need to get to. Sorry no video but i can get some stills from my daughter to post. I had to wait a long time because if i tried to do this when i saw your challenge video in July( when i watched it) I would have died here in Phoenix it was way over 100f at the time. I appreciate your channel and wish you the best.
Great video nutn, I noticed the translucent slip on covers on the scope turrets. could you share with us if that's a DIY project and if so what materials are needed and if they are manufactured who makes them? thank you, keep up the great work!!
I saw starting at 43:49 that you had a Stag 3G sitting on the table next to the MCX, looks like you were swapping stocks between the rifles. Can we expect a full review on that rifle at any time? It is my current hunting/shooting/fun gun, topped with a Vortex PST 2.5-10x44, I would love to hear what you have to say on it! I watched your booth review and that was partially what got me interested.
Thanks Nutn for another quality review on what seems to be another great product from SIG. I love a product that comes out of the box rock'n with little or no mods..
I bought the MPX and within the owner's manual sig made it very clear that if you change the trigger to a third party, it will void the manufacturer's warranty. I'm happy with the MPX and assuming the same is true with the MCX, I really wish they would not punish people for customizing such a modular weapon system.
Nutn, you should get together with Tim from the military arms channel and do some vids. He seems to give every company a fair shake and he clearly shares and problems and hangups with any gun.
Hello nutn, how are you and the family doing? I have been subscribed for years; love your reviews/episodes. I can't recall what your thoughts are on the 300 Blackout. When might you have the opportunity to do a review of the cartridge?
SO fn true about caliber conversions - great gun, can't wait to get my hands on one...waiting to grab a tan version when those start to become more readily available.
Love this gun. I run it with 16" barrel and an Eotech holosight unsuppressed and has beautiful groups at 30 yds. I've not run it suppressed yet although the Sig 556 suppressor arrives this month. I've not seen anywhere to get a barrel change kit to 9" (without buying an entirely new SBR MCX that Cabela's has now).
Thank you for this review. I sold my Sig swat patrol 16" version when I saw this gun. With the 1 in 7 twist they will shoot moa or sub moa with the 75 grain hornady steel match. Big question though...Would you rather have this or a Tavor?
My MCX has been awesome. Just purchased a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4x illuminated scope for it. Why? It's super lightweight and fairly compact. Weight is 9.5oz and about 9.75" overall length. A great compliment to the lightweight MCX to use as a magnified scope and a CQB weapon. Mine, bare, weighs in at 6 lbs 13 oz. Not sure why Sig calls it 6 Lbs, but still not too bad. Probably should be rounded to 7 lbs if they're looking for whole numbers. Trigger was mediocre, but a little fine tuning and spring work, and it's now super smooth at 6 lbs. It feels as good as my Wilson Combat TTU single stage trigger, but at a heavier weight. I have a 7.62x39 conversion kit on pre-order and it's due to ship in the first quarter, according to Sig. I don't plan on buying the 300 BLK conversion since I already have a 300 BLK rifle, which I like, but hate the cost to shoot it. Hopefully that will change some day. For me, that folding stock was the deal maker! Makes it super compact for hauling, and a fast CQB rifle. The price isn't cheap, but not extraordinary for such a well made weapon.
Isnt the fore arm that came with the gun the large size? Sig does not make anything larger do they? Won't the stock hand guard swallow up any 1.5" (typical) diameter can? I LIKE my cans covered at least 3/4 by a well ventilated rail. I know this is popular now. Covering your suppressor has big benefits IMO.
Nutn, suppressor blowblack comes back trough the barrel AND gas port. Piston suppressed guns will look very similar to DI suppressed guns. The key is to get a long gas system to make sure that the powder is burnt . If you look at 300 blackout videos shooting in slow motion, you can see powder flakings come out of the ejection port. This is because they have a Pistol gas system. Longer gas system = cleaner.
About to start building my first AR. Can't wait to get to work on my 80%. Definitely gonna be looking over a bunch of your past vids for products to get and what to avoid.
bill marks I'm looking to build a pistol AR to stick in my car on long trips. (I promise with sugar on top I'm not going to put a stock on it, ATF...) That being said, 18 inch barrels are definitely out of the picture, haha. I'm aiming at the longest barrel possible while still being able to fit under my seat with the receiver split, so probably in the 9-12 inch range. (I can cram a trainer AK74U under the seat with the stock folded, so I know I've got a fair amount of room.) If I can get a long enough barrel, I'm gonna stick one of the cheap circular M4 surplus guards on it, maybe a magpul if I have the cash. If it's too short for a carbine length gas system, I'll find the cheapest possible pistol foregrip. (Strapped for cash at the moment).
bill marks I've got like 500 rounds of 5.56x45 from a friend for free, so I think I'll stick to a 5.56/.223 barrel. I may look into buy a .300blk rifle length upper later on, though. (EDIT; I definitely didn't write that to insinuate that I would be interchanging rifle and pistol length barrels on the same lower.)
Nutn I have seen a MCX at 100k round count come through my workplace with a sig rep. He ran it as a auto, used it with training, with can for 80% of usage according to him. He'd do events and let people shoot it out for demo. You could tell there was wear, and a bit of slop to it, but all in all it really was not bad for having that many rounds down range.
nutnfancy, is there a chance you'd review the Ruger Precision Rifle? Seen a lot of videos saying positive things about it however I feel most have been paid by Ruger to do so. Was just curious to know if you had plans to get your hands on one and give an honest review of the RPR.
Okay, I'm buying this gun. Click. Let me see how many guns and knives Nutnfancy has sold on me: Walther PPQ, M&P9, M&P Shield, LWRC M6 series, Ruger American 22Mag, KSG, Spyderco Endura, Cold Steel Lawman just to name a few.
Nice! If I weren't in Ca I'd be allocating for the MCX but we can't have a folding stock on a centerfire rifle so I will stick with the Sig 556 SWAT patrol and AR-15, AK variants.
I'm really liking the short stroke push rod system of my Sig 516 and 716. The Keymod system on my Daniel Defense M4V11 is working out nice as well. Definitely sticking with these rifles. Nice presentation.
Plz sign the document here if you want the huges amendment to be repealed www.change.org/p/united-states-congress-repeal-the-hughes-amendment-of-the-fopa
You are right. Civilians uphold the structures of law and civilization and most of us cant have the same weapons the government agents have. Here in California and Los Angeles most of us cant even have the most anemic weapons to defend ourselves and keep a civilized society. Of course, the police don't do a very good job of it either.
Move the fuck out of California... And as a police officer, I will say 99% of us don't give a fuck what kind of gun you own. We want more civilians to be armed, makes our job easier. It's the federal Govt that's the problem. We don't make gun laws, and if ur in violation of any it won't be us knocking on ur door to bust u for it....that would be the Feds.
Yep it was hazardous to my credit card, but this rifle is awesome and even better once trigger was swapped out. Right now my MCX setup; Timney 667 3lb trigger, Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 on an American Defense AD-RECON Mount. Can’t stopping find reason to take it back to the range.
Given you have been talking about using different trigger on the mcx you should check out and maybe review the Palmetto State Armoury PSA AR15/PA10 EPT - Enhanced Polished Fire Control Group. At 29 to 39 dollars depending on whether they have a special going on it is a trigger that just makes me smile when shooting it. At a tested 5 to 7.5 lbs pull on 5 different triggers it is a higher pull than it feels. It has almost zero creep on any of the 5 triggers I have tested with a short reset. It isn't a high end performance trigger but at least 3/4 the performance in a 1/8 the price package. It is polished and then coated in a slick nickel finish. It is smooth as silk and like I said just breaks with no creep. As a very very cost effective serious upgrade to a stock trigger I figured this would be very up your alley for a serious upgrade for minimal money that you would be interested in. Other than a polish and coating it is just a milspec trigger so should be seriously reliable.
Hey TNP can you explain what the difference is between the 308 Winchester and a 7.62x51 nato round. I'm finding all kind of conflicting info online. Also are they interchangeable, can a 7.62 nato round be shot out of say a M&P10
Hey Nutn what do you think of the PWS MK1 line up would you ever do a table top been looking into it and really love your videos you go deeper then other reviewers and pull no punches Keep it up and thank you
This is a 6lb gun... with a folding skeleton stock and only 6061 aluminum. I can build/buy a lighter AR that's tougher and more accurate for the same or less money. It's just an AR with a proprietary upper and, really, 3 notable features. (The easy change barrel, the folding stock, and an operating system that doesn't require a buffer tube.) If its sales take off and some vendors make some great after-market parts for this, it could rock. But, it seems premature to declare this a must-buy.
$1,600 is quite steep for me but this rifle does have everything i'd want in a SHTF multi duty rifle. On the flip side you can probably put a rail on an AR to get the same accuracy but you won't have it in a small package.
I love the idea of running a 9" .300 BLK barrel suppressed for close shooting, and then if I want to take the range out to 600 yards with 77gr TMKs I can just swap the barrel to a 16" 5.56, since it will use the same BCG and magazines. Throw on a Micro T2/Leupold D-EVO combo or even just a variable zoom scope and you've got one of the most versatile weapon systems out there. And if you ran a suppressor that accepted both 5.56 and .300 BLK, like the Griffin Optimus, even MORE modular!!
Hi there nutnfancy I have been a fan of your RUclips channel for years and have now decided to start up a firearms themed RUclips channel of my own. I am an experienced firearms instructor and a big TNP'er. Any advice you can give me on starting out? Sincerely, Americanplinker1139
that hornady steel match has a variance of roughly 200fps in my 20" tikka tac .. still shoots around 0.6" @ 100.. but damn, 200fps isnt match. if they tightened that up to be around the 50fps mark, that ammo would be amazing.
What was it about the factory trigger that was so bad?I just picked this up (BEFORE I saw your review.) and then I looked on youtube until my ammo came in so I could watch people shooting it before I'd be able to. Anyhow, you mentioned it and replaced it. Was it the action or the construct or it's feel tactile wise? Also the new trigger you got, what was different about it that made it better for you? I am not knowledgeable enough to know if you can have varying actions from a different trigger or it is just the feel of it from a tactile perspective.
Just a short Q: If it's a piston gun, why is it fouling?? Like the idea of this gun, but if it's my "run out the door and stay low" gun, i'd like it to be low maintenance, since cleaning gear is what i'd be lacking after a while - thus making me choose a piston gun over a DI gun
I'll go ahead and be the oddball and ask not about the rifle, but an accessory I saw you use. I notice you use shooting sticks a lot. Any particular version of them that you prefer? Maybe a field review on portable gun stabilizing aids is in the works? BTW, thanks for all the great videos. Some guys may complain that they're too long, but now that I've given up cable, RUclips has taken the place of my TV viewing and I enjoy the feature length, entertaining, useful info-or informative entertainment, whichever way of saying it seems most appropriate.
300 blkout is still too expensive. However, the mcx has a 7.62x39 conversion, which those rounds are still cheap. If you already own a AK then you already got the ammo.
Hey nutn, I've seen others (Tim at MAC) just remove the buffer and spring from their std AR lower and they all said it worked flawlessly. Any reason why you decided to leave it in?
watching this for the 4th time, as i sit here, admiring my own, new, mcx. my credit card is fine, my wife hates you though.
I've watched it five times lol I just ordered mine from buds today. Can't wait for it to come in!

Still putting out the best review vids!
26:20 whats that?
Definitely gonna be looking over a bunch of your past vids for products to get and what to avoid.
good luck with it. from my experience watching the channel 18" barrel, mid length gas system, no quad rail, and as light as possible.
bill marks I'm looking to build a pistol AR to stick in my car on long trips. (I promise with sugar on top I'm not going to put a stock on it, ATF...)
That being said, 18 inch barrels are definitely out of the picture, haha. I'm aiming at the longest barrel possible while still being able to fit under my seat with the receiver split, so probably in the 9-12 inch range. (I can cram a trainer AK74U under the seat with the stock folded, so I know I've got a fair amount of room.)
If I can get a long enough barrel, I'm gonna stick one of the cheap circular M4 surplus guards on it, maybe a magpul if I have the cash. If it's too short for a carbine length gas system, I'll find the cheapest possible pistol foregrip. (Strapped for cash at the moment).
+GetTheFO 300blk is good in a pistol length package just more expensive to shoot
bill marks I've got like 500 rounds of 5.56x45 from a friend for free, so I think I'll stick to a 5.56/.223 barrel. I may look into buy a .300blk rifle length upper later on, though.
(EDIT; I definitely didn't write that to insinuate that I would be interchanging rifle and pistol length barrels on the same lower.)
+GetTheFO for legal reasons make it a pistol first
Thanks Nutn. Always chock full of good info. Too bad no side folders for us in CA.
Smoke curling off the suppressor at 21:50 was awesome
nutnfancy, is there a chance you'd review the Ruger Precision Rifle? Seen a lot of videos saying positive things about it however I feel most have been paid by Ruger to do so. Was just curious to know if you had plans to get your hands on one and give an honest review of the RPR.
Right? I work at a gun shop in PC and I was extremely impressed with the MCX
still waiting on the conversion kits I hope they're available soon.
What is the music from the beginning of this video? It reminds me of the space-y theme music from Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters.
@27:53 the steam coming off the suppressor was badass!
+hohenstaufenz nutn sold me on the Kershaw cryo, foursevens preon, and streamlight pro tac 2aaa
+hohenstaufenz The PPQ is worth the video reviews alone.
MCX in 308 is what was asked for, what was delivered was a para ordnance rifle with a better barrel for 3 times the price of a regular AR.
No ethical gun company should allow gun sales to government agencies (police) if those same guns aren't allowed to be bought by civilians.
+Onus News Service Agreed my friend.
Pretty much HK. Still love them so much though.
Plz sign the document here if you want the huges amendment to be repealed
www.change.org/p/united-states-congress-repeal-the-hughes-amendment-of-the-fopa
You are right. Civilians uphold the structures of law and civilization and most of us cant have the same weapons the government agents have. Here in California and Los Angeles most of us cant even have the most anemic weapons to defend ourselves and keep a civilized society. Of course, the police don't do a very good job of it either.
Move the fuck out of California... And as a police officer, I will say 99% of us don't give a fuck what kind of gun you own. We want more civilians to be armed, makes our job easier. It's the federal
Govt that's the problem. We don't make gun laws, and if ur in violation of any it won't be us knocking on ur door to bust u for it....that would be the Feds.
Really looking forward to this review as I purchased and shot my MCX just the other day and loved it. Anxious to hear your thoughts.
When are those rectangular TNP patches hitting the webstore?
I'm 3s in the video, hear the Dudio song and know it's gonna be a great TNP vid !
Went up to Buds and played with a bunch of guns, The MCX is one of my favorites! Lightweight and just COOL!
Hey Nut'N... how about a head-to-head sledgehammer run of the Sig MCX vs. SAM7SF-84R ??? :) Please :)
Great video as usual! Would you ever consider comparing this to a War sport LVOA or another high end ar system? would love to see that video
I wonder how this Sig MCX compares to the Rock River Arms PDS carbine in so far as accuracy and ergonomics.
I REALLY want an MCX lol, I would love to see your take on the HCAR by Ohio ordnance works though... looks like an interesting one
Hey TNP can you explain what the difference is between the 308 Winchester and a 7.62x51 nato round. I'm finding all kind of conflicting info online. Also are they interchangeable, can a 7.62 nato round be shot out of say a M&P10
I don't own a sig but used one for years. I will say everything they make is accurate and reliable. Wish I could afford another.
Hey Nutn what do you think of the PWS MK1 line up would you ever do a table top been looking into it and really love your videos you go deeper then other reviewers and pull no punches Keep it up and thank you
This would be the perfect platform for the 277 Wolverine. I wonder if the gas port is in a standard carbine config.
Hey nutn, any plans for a Sig MPX review? Saw it was left out in the PCC shootout... Any reasons?
This is a 6lb gun... with a folding skeleton stock and only 6061 aluminum. I can build/buy a lighter AR that's tougher and more accurate for the same or less money. It's just an AR with a proprietary upper and, really, 3 notable features. (The easy change barrel, the folding stock, and an operating system that doesn't require a buffer tube.)
If its sales take off and some vendors make some great after-market parts for this, it could rock. But, it seems premature to declare this a must-buy.
Lots of gas to the face from suppressed fire. Pretty uncomfortable for me. Anyone else experience this?
Hey Nutn, is there any chance you can do a review of the new ETS Glock magazines? They're relatively new and seem promising.
$1,600 is quite steep for me but this rifle does have everything i'd want in a SHTF multi duty rifle. On the flip side you can probably put a rail on an AR to get the same accuracy but you won't have it in a small package.
+ZFlyingVLover and do that for a whole lot less.. Personally, I like concealable rifles like AKMs with folding stocks
Would you say this is a better option than an ACR? I really want a folding stock and a piston gun so I can suppress it.
Yes
Excellent review you need to review the Sig 516 Carbon TS, you won't be disappointed
Awesome review! How do you think an American Gold Trigger would be in this rifle?
will you be posting anymore parts to the AR15 alternatives series?
that hornady steel match has a variance of roughly 200fps in my 20" tikka tac .. still shoots around 0.6" @ 100.. but damn, 200fps isnt match. if they tightened that up to be around the 50fps mark, that ammo would be amazing.
Just a short Q:
If it's a piston gun, why is it fouling??
Like the idea of this gun, but if it's my "run out the door and stay low" gun, i'd like it to be low maintenance, since cleaning gear is what i'd be lacking after a while - thus making me choose a piston gun over a DI gun
Another awesome vid. Keep up the good work Sir.
Review the mpx next with sig brace !! Haven't seen even a decent review on it! Nice review into the mcx though got me interested
I believe he did a video a while back about shooting rests and such
300 blkout is still too expensive. However, the mcx has a 7.62x39 conversion, which those rounds are still cheap. If you already own a AK then you already got the ammo.
Hey nutn,
I've seen others (Tim at MAC) just remove the buffer and spring from their std AR lower and they all said it worked flawlessly. Any reason why you decided to leave it in?
hk 416 were does it rank compared to this rifle ?
Not as good as mcx
*****
8.6lbs for the 416 is what the joke is lol
