If the Tower is a beacon of hope then you are a beacon of love for Blackpool. You deserve some form of official recognition for your videos showing the improvements in the town and the care that you’ve taken to have Blackpool shown in the best light.👏👏👏
My memories of the south shore are that I used to love having a look round the shoe market and I think there was another one too? They had great shoes, slippers and tights all at reasonable prices. I'm pretty sure too that it was a shop on the south shore that I bought my pink dinosaur from. Deano. Early 80's. He was popular just like the cuddly soft toy seagull with a chip in it's beak that's there today. So many pink dinosaur's hanging up in polythene bags outside shops back then. I always love seeing Blackpool and the beacon of hope the tower. So many memories.
It's like the still before the storm, Blackpool at rest then it starts kicking off with the police and then the sea joins in. The beacon of hope looking over Blackpool is lovely and looks different every season. Lovely walkabout Stephen and I've learnt a good bit about Blackpools past. Thank you for your time .😊😊😊
Thanks again for another great vlog Stephen as I've said many times before South Shore is my favourite part of Blackpool i can remember when all the shops in Waterloo Road and Bond Street were open and i can't go to Blackpool without visiting Notrianies and getting a 99 take care 👍
Good evening George hope you're well. The snow has finally gone ,the paths are clear so managed a short stroll with D after I got home from playgroup. Been nice day much milder and sunny for a few hours. 8 Deg. Just watching this vlog now, good old Stephen keeps us going doesn't he. Donna's still not very well bless her, very worrying . Well take care spk soon night God bless 🙏😊x
That sea brings back memories of when I used to go beach fishing on nights like that. I used to enjoy it too, but I'm getting a bit too old for it these days. The trains from Blackpool North also stop at Preston, last time I was in Blackpool we asked if we could use our tickets from the south station and Change at Preston ( which we had to do anyway but we couldn't for some reason ).
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool The three of them were there in the 60s and into the 70s. Wouldn't swear to it but think it was in what is now Home Bargains
Great vlog Stephen, always good to see the tower shining, thanks for the knowledge you share with us all. Take care bye for now 😊x can see the moon very bright and big tonight 🌝
Good afternoon Hazel i hope you and D are well and i hope Donna gets better soon everything is OK at my end the sun is shining here and it's not cold at all i was at the doctors this morning and he wants me to go on Insulin but he's given me a month to try and get my blood sorted take care and i hope to speak to you soon
@georgesmellie8717 Hi good afternoon George, hope you get sorted out with your bloods, hope the insulin will help. We're doing ok thanks, we have Lovely sunshine here now after a damp cool morning, had short stroll, just having lunch, Ds all set to watch the snooker from Ali Pali. He loves his sport,.I don't mind watching snooker. Look forward to seeing more vlogs and speaking to you again soon, Take good care bye for now ☺️ x🙏
Hi Stephen.Thank you for sharing your walk around on this quite evening in Blackpool. There are 3 Woolworths in the near from where I live here in Berlin, Love listening to the sea. Take care and all the best. Mildred. xxx
Aww thank you for taken the time walking the legs off yourself in all wrathers to bring us these clips. I love it in Blackpool. Mainly walking up and down the prom and looking out across the sea. Yes there are good the bad the ugly but most places are like this if you just scratch the surface. Take care and be safe
HI Stephen , love your video's and love backpool . We visit every year for the illumination's , so love watching your walk about's until we're back , i think the police were only picking up there maccy dee's for there supper 🤣😂, x
I remember that 2013 Channel 5 show that bought Chris Higgett to prominence featured a guy who tried to return the Palladium to use as a theatre. Shame it never happened.
Stephen, the defib machine when you turn it on has a voice advising where you stick on the shock paddles and everthing you need to know as you progress to the shocks. Even tells you to stand clear before each shock is given. I am CPR trained both manual and defib. No need to be afraid of using it--easy peasy.
Another great video thanks, it’s all changing yet again with the upcoming demolition of the old courts and the police station, with what’s happening on king Street too, the skyline is definitely changing, let’s hope that when the regeneration of the old central station gets going, that will start the regeneration of central drive is it?
Evening very clean and tidy the platform it’s kickin off again 😂 really weird without the illumis pity they don’t put a few lights on the prom till the next one 😊
Good evening Stephen I suppose being mid winter and off season, it’s to be expected most coastal towns will be quiet straight after New Year. The sea at high tide is always a thrill to watch and what with the trams as well, what could be better. Regarding the defibrillator, I think I’d be frightened to use it. Great video….
The Blackpool South train used to continue on to Colne, but looks like it terminates at Preston these days. Yes I remember the train layout, and as a kid used to dream of having one
Hello Stephen I really enjoyed your walk around Blackpool, it's my good to go place and I love it there more so because of you I've learnt so much about it's History and all it's interesting things ❤
Thanks, Stephen. Your microphone sounded a little distorted tonight, could still hear you clearly but it just sounded a little bit echoey. Nice interesting looking little café building by the station. The rough sea looks really nice with the bigger waves.
Where Shoe market is used to be Talbots; All they sold was fruit and veg... There were about 8 counters inside all selling the same and on a Saturday they'd all have queues. They had another shop on Talbot Rd, and I think another on St Annes.

After a bit of research I came up with this.....Located on Blackpool's Waterloo Road. One of the earliest purpose-built Blackpool cinemas, the Waterloo Picture House opened on 26th December 1912. It had 760-seats. The cinema had a 24-foot wide proscenium and a screen that was 18 ft by 14 ft. After a Western Electric(WE) sound system was installed, the organ was removed in 1935 and re-installed at the Church of The Sacred Heart in Blackpool where it remains today. The Waterloo Cinema was closed by South Shore Cinemas Ltd. at the end of the 1959 holiday season. Until you mentioned It I never knew there was a Cinema on the West end of Waterloo Road.
What has happened to Waterloo Rd / Bond St is tragic. There were some BRILLIANT shops along both streets. Diggles was a specialist toy shop (Where the Cafe is now next to Iceland) The shop next to the Post Office which eventually ended up as a Post Office used to be a large super markek calle Blowers (1960's) There is a door between the Old Post Office and the closed down one and all you can see is a flight of staries they used to leas up to Blackpool Liberal Club which was on the 1st floor. An enormous place. How sad it is to see the old Woolies store gone.
Steve the last time I was in Blackpool there was an old record shop not far away from where we came. Dont know if you remember that but if so maybe you can point it out in another video :)
Central Station closed in 1964 but the direct line to Kirkham, which Yeadon Way is a part, closed in 1966. The Blackpool South trains used to run through to Colne but there were reliability issues, which was a problem with the Blackpool South branch being single track, hence large numbers of trains down the branch were cancelled. Therefore, in December 2018, the service was cut to terminate at Preston. The trains then do a service down the Ormskirk line, then return, then heads to Colne, then heads back to Blackpool South, all separate services using the same trains. I remember visiting the platform 3 model railway in 1976.
Trains are supposed to operate on Sundays between Blackpool South and Colne every two hours but due to staff availability issues these haven't run reliably for months (if at all). Mondays to Saturdays the trains shuttle between Blackpool South and Preston every hour from early morning until late in the day and THEY do mostly operate.
@@markstramtrainbuscapades1729 in the 60s the South line was really busy. We could get one of two trains to the lakes, Monday to Friday. One to Windermere and one to Lakeside, and then back in the evening. We used to get runabout tickets which have a weeks train travel, and you could use the tickets on the Windermere ferries too! Bargain!
We certainly do need a beacon of hope Stephen the way the political class is intent on destroying this once great country, if you’re First Nation indigenous , you are to be despised . Sorry if that was a bit heavy Stephen , love your videos , keep them coming .
A nice walk on the dark side, It's amazing how one street can be nice and the one around the corner a mess I put it down to landlords and councils for that.
I now live not far from Waterloo road. Its a real nuisance not having a post office near the south shore. We could also do with a heron foods on waterloo road too. The tesco exoress on lytham road is too small and expensive. In regards to south shore station, it was foolish to sever it where it is now. They could have continued it as a single line into blackpool town. St annes Would have a direct rail link then, and through that the line would be busier. Plus it wouldnt cost much to make it electric to preston. But hey, we live in the UK where our leaders are all idiots.
The ambulance station been there for a long time to i did some blue light training there along time ago was on a course in Bolton we was all ways driving to Blackpool station
The defib has instructions inside once you get the code to open it. Very easy apparently and the 999 op would treat it as a cat 1 call so a first responder should be despatched straightaway.
Very distant memories of the model railway. I think that Blackpool South and Squires Gate miss their train station buildings. Proper red brick and a bit of character. Bit sad that they are more like bus stops now.
Re: explanation of 'Preston and Beyond'. The only time I caught a train from that station was in December 2015. I had to get off in Preston, as the train terminated there. So I got off and caught my onward train to Wigan. Hope this helps?
I know it states Preston & beyond, but I think that all trains terminate at Preston & you change there for other stations (beyond). Taken from Google - South Fylde Line. The South Fylde Line Community Rail Partnership covers the line between Preston, on the the West Coast Main Line, with Blackpool South via the Fylde Coast. Leaving Preston the first station is Salwick which is close to the Springfields nuclear fuels plant but served by only six trains a day.
I visited blackpool today, we went to coral island 🏝️ it was so strange because it was empty! I usually visit in season. Very foggy tonight. Thanks for your videos ❤
You used to get the train from South to Ormskirk and a once a day service to Colne. I only know that from playing Train Sim world. I don't know if you still can. I only cought it from Preston, and the South train back only went as far as Preston. Back in September. So i couldn't tell you sadly you should definitely do a video steve as the South route is just as good as the North route.
The defibrillator you see scattered around........... If you find someone not breathing, you phone 999 and the operator will give you the code for your nearest one and you have to get it yourself......then they tell you how it works and what you need to do while waiting for an ambulance
@11:46 in the video is it me or can I hear someone whisper the words saying something like "Right Bastard" Sorry for the language there but that`s exactly what it sounds like.
Looks great on the south shore tonight and theres no fog weve had thick fog in south wirral it looks abit dangerous for some drivers and the defibrillator looked abit odd on a random wall but i think theyre needed theres none of them in wirral i wouldnt have a clue how to open that lol and the carpark is huge the station looks great and the sign looks good on the grass welcome to blackpool it needs to be lit up like the illuminations and the tower is like a family heirloom lol wed be lost without it but as for train stations im off to layland to visit an uncle just hope the weathers ok at the weekend looks like were in for more snow its cold enough waterloo road always looks great and sirens lol theyre 2 loud the police are most probably off to knick the beer monsters for getting the seagulls drunk on skoll stop them knicking the chips there goes sedrik seagull either that or they were rushing to the wife because the tea is getting cold 😂funny how the police were doing 60mph then a guy comes along on a mobility scooter doing 10mph you could make an advertisement out of that a kill your speed ad the wind on the sea looked choppy i feel sorry for the sailers and fishmongers out on a boat its gonna be a bumpy fair ride for them it be like being on the log flume for those guys but brilluant video tonight steven always enjoy your uploads 👍🗼🏖️❤️🚨😂
Are you sure that there are no defibrillators in Wirral? I thought they were everywhere, I live in a village out in the countryside in South Lincolnshire and we have two of them just in our village. And the next village a few miles away also has one.
Nope. Number 5 bus goes from Royal Oak (by Blackpool South platform) to just outside Holiday Inn by Blackpool North station. There may be other options too but no train.
The defib will speak clear instructions, worse thing is the crowd gathered think they know more than the box and you will have trouble hearing the thing ! PS If the person 's heart is not fibrillating and a normal rhythm is detected it will not charge to shock the patient. Also if the patients heart rate is very slow or stopped it will not send a pulse the paddles. Gaz Yorkshire coast

Blackpool is eerie when it is quiet you would think the place is a lockdown or something.
Quiet is right Stephen however you managed to capture that errie "out of season" atmosphere perfectly ! 👍❤
It's lovely to see Blackpool have a great rest of your day Stephen ❤😊

I have a photo over 100 years old of my dad on holiday in Blackpool!!! ❤😊
Lots of changes in Blackpool ❤😊
@11:46 in the video is it me or can I hear someone whisper the words saying something like "Right Bastard" Sorry for the language there but that`s exactly what it sounds like.
I heard that as well.
@@stevensmith7460 Ahh so it wasn`t just me then.

Hi Stephen
The Sea is loud ❤😊

It's proper kicking off in Blackpool. I wonder what's going on. 😂
Can you get a train from Blackpool south to Blackpool North ?
Nope. Number 5 bus goes from Royal Oak (by Blackpool South platform) to just outside Holiday Inn by Blackpool North station. There may be other options too but no train.
Yes, if you go to Preston & get the train back from there.
I've never been to Blackpool ❤😊
Stephan, can you do an episode on Blackpool murders? Every city has at least a few to talk about.
