  • New research is looking into why it's been so long since "the big one" has hit along the southern San Andrea Fault Line and how a nearby body of water may influence earthquakes. Ryley Hill, who led the study, joins CBS News' Lana Zak and Errol Barnett with more.

Interesting map- I never knew that the San Andreas fault passed through Arizona!! CBS should consult a geologist before reporting misinformation.

    According to the USGS:
"concentrated water in a valley or on a mountain has a small potential to increase seismicity."
    Who to believe?

It (water) tilted the axis of the earth when the 3 Gorges dam was built in China. They also had an increase of earthquakes. Expect the same w/changes in less water.

How do you know it hasn’t been peer reviewed? He’s a P.H.D. Candidate with an entire department of qualified P.H.D’s and a university server accessible by other scholars to review his work and contact him at any time. Nice try though. Just wondering, where’s your peer reviewed study on the subject?
