I think sound is an important factor in the total experience, emotion and driver feedback. I think it’s important to be able to switch it on or off. It’s also important for pedestrians in an urban environment.
Recently went on a road trip to Germany in the iX3. Being RWD it was pretty fun to drive and skids in corners were consistent for an EV. But the efficiency was so terrible I ended up paying as much as I would have in a petrol car. Also acceleration was mediocre for an EV compared to other crossovers like the EV6 or Model Y. Top speed was limited to 187 kph or something like that which was very frustrating. Not having access to superchargers and not having automatic routing with chargers and availability was a total pain in the ass. What would have been a 150 min drive in a Tesla ended up being 6 hrs of struggles to find fast chargers that actually work and not in use. Cargo volume was tiny for its class and the 4 of us had trouble playing tetris to fit all our stuff. Self driving worked okay when it decided to turn on, but 50% of the time it refused to turn on. Steering was slow and didn't really feel that fun. Above all, the acceleration was too slow to be anywhere near 'fun' to drive. And the artificial noise.. I drove 2 min, got so annoyed, pulled over, spent 10 minutes digging through menus to switch it off. This review is definitely way too generous to what I felt was total garbage.
I sense that the reason BMW’s still have the center tunnel in the car is that they were late to the EV dance (which caused their old CEO his job) and by using current designed vehicles, they can enter the market now. However, I hope they terminate the middle tunnel like most of the good EV companies have done.
BMW got cold feet and decided against offering the bmw ix3 in the US market And I think Mercedes doesn’t offer the ECQ. The only one we get is the Audi and most journalists think it needs better range/performance/efficiency to compete here. I don’t think it’s selling very well
I think the German auto makers have been asleep at the wheel for too long when it comes to EVs. BMW made a good start with the radical i3, but then dropped their EV development. Making a combustion design into an EV will always be a compromise. Pumping sound into the car is stupid, one of the many advantages of an EV is a quiet cabin! Tesla and the Koreans have a lead in EVs, so German auto makers have a lot to catch up on.
My choice? None of the above! Jaguar I-Pace provides me with 240 miles even in the winter, accelerates quicker than the cars tested apart from a performance X, with the air suspension provides a more compliant and comfortable ride, it’s quieter at just about any speed and the handling is excellent. Latest “quietest car” puts it in the top ten along with Mercedes S and Ghost and, for me, that’s one reason why I went electric.
Hi, really enjoyed the video. Spec's and finish seem to vary country to country. I am in the UK. I just ordered an EQC as I found it the most comfortable and felt more luxurious compared to the others. Can't say I was impressed with the BMW as the interior design felt a bit old and not what you would expect from a modern electric car but the boot was a better shape for practicality / load carrying. I know not a fair comparison, but I looked at Tesla Model Y rather than the X and was disappointed to find the Y had super hard suspension, fine at low speed city driving but terrible on country rounds and felt every bump hard. I did really like the Audi E-tron and it came out as the cheapest option but was beaten by the Merecedes on comfort in my opinion.

You really don't need a Hans Zimmer to come up with that sound. If he indeed created it, I'm sure this took him a couple of minutes tops. But probably BMW contacted him and gave him money to use his name. Kinda like those laptopspeakers that have those high end brands on them.
Thanks for the series of reviews, Thomas. I testdrove a Mercedes EQC and an Audi e-tron just these past 5 days! Although I'm a Mercedes-nerd, I have to say that between the two, I preferred the Audi e-tron, due to better mileage, higher clearance, steering agility and the air suspension (for smooth driving). However, I still like the Mercedes interior feel and comfort much more. About the Audi virtual side view mirrors - I agree with you on that one! It's really the placing than anything else. They would be better placed to the left and right of the dashboard screen. Perhaps where the air vents are now, put the virtual mirrors there and move the vents to somewhere else. Thomas, I have a suggestion for the reviews. It would be beneficial to get a rundon of the extra options of the car you're reviewing, so that one can understand how it impacts your driving experience and hence your reviews. For example, the sound level in the cars, it would be good to know if the acoustic insulation package is part of your car configuration.
the artificial sound literary depends, if I drive at 4:50 in the morning to the Gym I want to be as quiet as possible to not wake up neighbors. But at the supermarket parking lot I want to have it on so I don't accidentally drive someone over because they don't hear me. makes sense right.
@@autogefuehl also my neighbor has a Volvo hybrid and his artificial sound is super annoying, not only that but you can hear it 2 blocks away at night. they can just make a very quiet mode and a normal mode for the audio.
Well Thomas, if an animal free Interieur is the only „bummer“ on the iX3, then it´s a clear winner. BTW, you can produce an animal skin Interieur with.a huge amount of sustainable options. Men will always consume animals and therefore there will be plenty of skin available from sustainable managed farms. BMW took this approach on their fist full BEV, the i3 leather comes from sustainable managed farming and is tanned with olive grates oiles - it doesn ´t get much more sustainable then this. For my part, i ´m looking forward to test drive the iX3 when my local dealer can provide one. As always, well done Thomas and the whole team, was really impressed by your reactions during the iX3 driving review :)
As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
I own a 2013 X3 and I've been really excited about the introduction of the iX3. But now that I know that it is NOT AWD, that is a total deal breaker for me. I need AWD where I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Also, thank God that you can turn off the acceleration sounds! Now, if you can turn off the annoying on/off sounds as well... A simple rising/lowering chime would be more than sufficient. Did they really need to pay a well known composer for that sound? This is a new, modern car. Use a new, modern sound.
Model x looks like a mini van. Id go bmw anyday. The tesla looks like basic traffic. Has no luxury. Which is the main thing u want from a suv. Bmw is the best drivers car by a mile it sounds like.

nice reviews and combo! Especially useful feedback on the BMW driving quality. I wish they offered different style wheels - maybe they do/will. These ones look too electric, is that really necessary?
These E-SUvs are useless in my opinion, Less range than a sedan or a wagon because it is less aerodynamic and heavier. Around 2% of X3 buyers might be driving on some rough roads where an regular wagon couldn't go, I'm sure 0.00001% of the E-SUV buyers will drive anywhere further a puddle or muddy suburban driveway.
Of course it isn't. A SUV that craps all over supercars the likes of Aventador and can take up to 7 people simultaneously. Lol, you can keep your Germans. There's no running away from the fact that Tesla is at least 5y ahead of anything that VW or Mercedes can offer.
As I may or may not agree with you, Tesla still deserves at least some credit, because none of the other competitors would probably exist. Its different car for different customers than from other OEM, not bad at all...
@@Symbrio in terms of technology and innovation yes. In terms of build quality then no. Even Dacia/Renault have better panel alignment. They have improved massively but they are still not at German standards in terms of build quality. Where Tesla still outperform the others is the Superchargers. I could drive right across the European Union from Ireland to Poland or Czech Republic using Superchargers. They are reliable and they are located in decent locations.
Looks=1.EQC 2.Audi 3.BMW 4.Tesla Environmental=Tesla only Performance=1.Tesla 2.BMW 3. Audi 4.EQC Build Quality=all 3 Germans only. My personal choice=EQC due to looks, comfort & build quality.

One thing about not selling in a certain market like the United States stating that there is no market for a car like this is an absolute moot argument. Tesla cannot make their model X fast enough and the Ford Mach E can’t be made fast enough. I think BMW has a really poor reputation here in the US regarding cost of ownership and reliability of their vehicles. You cannot have a market if you don’t give it a chance to grow. This BMW X3 Electric has the range and it doesn’t look like a Dr. Suess car 🚙. I think it would certainly sell well considering the fact that SUV/CUV sales are exploding and domestic manufacturers cannot make long range electric vehicles fast enough.
Tesla Model X may have clearly the best EV technology but it's no match with the others for quality, dealers network, repairability, etc. Anyway I can't afford even a quarter of any of those cars so I'll stay on petrol for now XD.

nice reviews and combo! Especially useful feedback on the BMW driving quality. I wish they offered different style wheels - maybe they do/will. These ones look too electric, is that really necessary?

No one for me, Because I LIKE KIA.
These E-SUvs are useless in my opinion, Less range than a sedan or a wagon because it is less aerodynamic and heavier. Around 2% of X3 buyers might be driving on some rough roads where an regular wagon couldn't go, I'm sure 0.00001% of the E-SUV buyers will drive anywhere further a puddle or muddy suburban driveway.
iX3 is the best. But Audi and Mercedes still ok. Tesla is nothing to care about.
True
They are reliable and they are located in decent locations.
iX3 will not be available in the US.
ya thats a pity
@@autogefuehl Totally agree :(
Oh no 😫
que lux por las vistas a mis canciones gracias ........
Looks=1.EQC 2.Audi 3.BMW 4.Tesla
Environmental=Tesla only
Performance=1.Tesla 2.BMW 3. Audi 4.EQC
Build Quality=all 3 Germans only.
My personal choice=EQC due to looks, comfort & build quality.
Blue accents everywhere is ridiculous, we just want normal cars not cars that shout "LOOK IM ELECTRIC IM SO FUTURISTIC LOOK IVE GOT BLUE WOW"
Thomas is such a great car reviewer. But the extreme focus on non-animal skin options in EVERY SINGLE review is beyond tiresome.
As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
teslaaaaaaaa
great work... for me ix3😍😍
The man voice: 📉📈📉📈📉📈📉📉📈📉📉📈📉📉📉📈📉📈📉📈
how come Jaguar I pace was missing in this comparison?
Because it’s Germans versus Tesla comparison
Tesla is on the other hand most irreparable expensive car to repair, mainly is considered totaled when only doors or side panel is to be repaired.
Yet I want it more than these other cars
For single use only.
wonderful!
I would rather gave no sound in the BMW
Where is the I-PACE

@@autogefuehl thank's!
The most important thing to concern is battery life
Therefore Tesla is absolutely the best of all
Tesla Model X may have clearly the best EV technology but it's no match with the others for quality, dealers network, repairability, etc. Anyway I can't afford even a quarter of any of those cars so I'll stay on petrol for now XD.
They built an ankle boot. its as ordinary and boring as any Kia. Just buy the Tesla Y and save yourself the embarrassment.
Nice car
e tron
Get American and get a Tesla 👍
I’m glad to have Tesla in America!
Again the BMW
Subjective though..the ICE platform keep the front large..technically no crumple zone is just PATHETIC ..why would you buy a BEV with no crumple zone.
Tesla❤️
Where's byd Tang lol
No one for me. I like more KIA.
Audi Q4 E-Tron will sell like hotcakes when it comes out.
Yea probably if you’re looking for something better than the ID4
