❐ Here's the link to the chart: bit.ly/kalimbachart ❐ Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/uA9WXAR70HI/видео.html for an easier way to input all the notes faster. ❐ P.S.: This method works well when the piano pieces have no accidentals (flats or sharps notes) in C major. It could work if the flat or sharp notes are the same throughout the whole song. For example, if there’s only F# (sharp) notes in the piece, this could still work if you retune the F keys on your kalimba to F# (this would make the kalimba into G major). However, if there are both F, and F# notes involved, this wouldn’t work. You could try to play it with out #, but the sound would be a bit off. If you really want to play songs that involved flats or sharp in C major, I would suggest you look into a chromatic kalimba.
Hi! Thanks for this video!! I wanted to make a kalimba cover of this song "Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker Suite)". I wanted to transpose this song in c major but I don't know if it worked out because of your P.S. in this comment. I'm a beginner and can't read notes that's why... Is it possible to play this song on a kalimba? When I transpose it so it does not have these flags and the other thing, then it comes to F, d... Is this still c major?
Erlinda A.N. I usually use MuseScore to transpose the piano music to C major, then I use that as a reference to make Kalimba Tabs using the software KTabS. There are different styles of Tabs people use for Kalimba. Some use the ktabs, some use numbers, some like to use letters and some just use the piano sheet in C major. If really depends what on you prefer. Generally there are lots of different tutorials on RUclips as well for different songs.
I've been watching a lot of videos on how to transpose piano chords into Kalimba. Yours is the only Video that help me do it in easy way. I've learned in just few minutes. thank u so much . i can finally transpose songs on my own
Gerda Ivanauskaite Yay! Glad this video can be helpful for you. I will be posting a video soon on how to input music notations faster on MuseScore, so people can save some time if they do use the MuseScore app on the computer. 😆
Hello LC 😊 I'm new to the Kalimba but I do have a musical background from when I was younger. I can read music so this video was extremely helpful!! Thank you for posting!! You are a wonderful teacher and I appreciate all your videos.
Wow this explain A LOT BETTER than anyone I have watched thank you I'm ff. Your channel 👍🏼this is what I'm looking loooong ago so that I can play fave songs on kalimba 😊😊
thank you so much it helps me with my studies, especially the sakura song, cause all videos are not complete and they use piano or guitar, so I watch this to convert the piano to kallimba
Sheet music intimidates me. On that BTS example song I could figure out the most of the notes by their placement, but other notations were completely confusing. Thanks for sharing this info and your awesome charts. I now know a little bit more than I did before watching this vid. 👍
one Idea that I thought of was to have this chart printed on transparency paper... that way we can put the chart directly on the sheet music and see the notes easier?!?! just a thought! THANK YOU for this video.... it has helped!
I just subscribed. Thanks so much. I am a beginner...so the last part can’t register in my brain yet. Lol. The charts are very useful to start with for the c major songs.
It was so informative and useful. Really thanks. And I have two questions: 1. Can you teach in a video how to play songs based on music sheet on Kalimba? I prefer music sheet as it's more general approach compare to Tab or number/alphabet notations. 2. Can you teach how we can convert number/alphabet notations and graphical Tabs to music sheets (reverse of this video)? As I told I prefer music sheets but most of tutorials on the internet are based on those notations. Again thank you for your awesome channel
Thank you for all the work that went into this video, it explained all the things I had not been abe to figure out on my own. Where can I get the numbered Notation Chart you show at 4:54? Its exactly what I've been needing to learn the notation for the kalimba. I would love to have a copy of that chart is there anywhere on the internet I can find it or do you email it out? I have not been able to find it on Google.
Have you checked out my video on how to read numbered notation? ruclips.net/video/TyB1efr8nGY/видео.html I just added the link to that chart in the comment section.
I have a question, how do you figure out if the sheet music is in Major A, B, D, E, F or G? If the sheet music happens to be Major G, does it mean I have to tune the Kalimba to Major G or is there a way to change it to Major C? If it's not Major C, can your chart (thank you very much for sharing it!) still be used? Or it can't because it's only for Major C? Thank you very much.
Since I don’t know all the key signatures and if I want to know a key signature, I usually just google them, for example, if I see 3 ♭ (flat) symbols, then I would search 3 flats key. You can check out this page: musictheoryfundamentals.com/MusicTheory/keySignatures.php It shows a list of different key signatures. If the sheet music is in G major, what you can do is input all the notes in MuseScore (on the computer) and then transpose it to C. You probably can google on how to transpose keys, but I just found it easier for me to use MuseScore. By retuning the kalimba to G major probably would sound more like to the original piece compare to the one transpose it to C major. In terms of the chart I created, it’s for C major. However, if your kalimba is retuned to G major, you could still use it for G major in terms of the letter placement, but you would need to remember that the F keys would be F# instead for G major. Also if you are writing down numbers for a song, the numbers would be different compare to C major. It would start with G(1) A(2) B(3) C(4) D(5) E(6) F# (7), whereas C major would be C(1) D(2) E(3) F(4) G(5) A(6) B(7). If you are interested in a chart for G major, I probably can work on one this weekend. I hope this makes sense to you. :)
I know this is an old thread, but Musescore has a transpose function. If you are doing it manually, then you should look for a circle of fifths and draw it out. No sharps/flats in the key signature is Cmaj or Am. One sharp is Gmaj or Em, One flat is Fmaj or Dm. Now since you have the drawing that LC Kalimba shows on the video, you can find all the notes. For sharp keys, the note above the last sharp is the root note, so for Gmaj, the sharp is on the F line, that means all F's are sharp and the note above F# is G. For flat keys, the second from the end flat is the key, so with 2 flats, the first flat is Bb, therefore a 2 flat key is Bbmaj or Gm. To figure out whether the key is major or minor, can be complex, but a rule of thumb is the last chord in the song.
I have ZERO background i music, so everytime I search online on how to convert piano notes to kalimba's notes, I cant understand. But your chart explains everything! This was SUPER helpful! Thank you so much!! ❤️

I'm trying to transpose an anime song but sadly there are really high notes so I can't finish the whole song. Can you suggest me how to do it? Btw, thank you for this. Really helpful! ❣️❣️
Depends on the range of the notes. If the notes are in range (within two octaves), you could try to lower the notes one octave or two to fit the note on the kalimba.
@@quietgirlnxtdoor that’s fine as long as it’s within the range (17 notes). You just move them one octave higher, so the note would be regular C, and regular C would be one octave higher.
hmm... the easiest way is to transpose the song into C major on MuseScore. I don't think you can just transpose keys with # or b, you would transpose the whole song into the key that you want that doesn't have any sharp or flat notes.
This was a great tutorial but for the song I’m doing it’s not on muse score and I have all of the piano notes written down and I was wondering how to transpose it without the app
What does it mean when there is a line under the number notation? Edit: I don’t have background in music so I don’t know how to read notes/music sheets. This is my first time to really study playing an instrument.
A underline is 1/2 of the beat of the one not underline. Here’s a tutorial I made on how to read number notations: ruclips.net/video/TyB1efr8nGY/видео.html Hope it helps.
Hi may i ask a question. 😢 if the piano sheet is in d major do i need to tune the kalimba into other major and if yes what major it is? Cause i can't found and i think there is no d major kalimba tuning. :(( btw your video really helps a lot. I'm a newbie btw huhuhu
You can transpose D major music into C major to play on a C major Kalimba, which I use the app MuseScore to help me. Or you can retune your Kalimba into D major from C, which you would tune the keys C into C♯, half note higher, this includes C4, C5 and C6, and the keys F into F ♯, this includes F4 and F5. I hope this helps. What song are you trying to play?
LC kalimba ahhhhh thank youuu soo much 😭😭😭 i tried to cover a song “never letting go - mamamoo” cause i want to dedicate it to my best friends. i already finished few lines from the chorus by hearing the song and match it with the tunes but then it gets hard so i guess using the piano sheet would be better huhu. really appreciate your help thank youuu 😭😭❤️
Hi Kaguya, I finally finished making the ktabs for this song, check it out if you want to learn it using ktabs. 😄 ruclips.net/video/sEbIuRk68Gw/видео.html
Hello, I would like to know what happens if the note are higher or lower? Example if the note is lower than C4 (which would be 1 in kalimba) or if it is higher than the note of E6 (in the kalimba note)??
Well, if one song has notes that are lower than C4 and higher than E6, then it would not work well on Kalimba. If the notes are higher, it might still work if you are able to move all those notes one octave lower if they are still within the range of Kalimba notes. Same with lower notes, to move them one octave higher. If you really want to play that song, could potentially look into 21 key kalimba or Kalimba that has lower notes. I hope this answer your question.
You can transpose songs to C major to play on your Kalimba or retune your Kalimba to play the songs. Personally I like to just transpose songs to C Major as I don’t need to retune my Kalimba.
Depends the octave range of the whole song. If there’s only notes within lower octave and regular octave, then you can lower the whole song to one octave lower to play it.
I can help with that. First, the piece needs to be transposed to C for a typical kalimba. Then the guitar chords may need to be simplified, you aren't necessarily going to be able to play a 7b5 chord on kalimba. The upper most notes on guitar sheet music is usually the melody. You may need to lower the octaves or raise them. A typical 22 fret guitar in standard tuning has a range from E2 to D6 and a 17C kalimba has a range from C4 to E6.
Leah Herrell I don’t really convert Tabs regularly, so this would take me a long time to do as I have other things going on as well. It probably would be faster to do this yourself, plus this would help you remember the Tabs better as you convert the Tabs. Is there any part you are confused about? I am happy to help you to figure this out.

Well, if one song has notes that are lower than C4 and higher than E6, then it would not work well on Kalimba. hi 👋I have a question what if the song is C major and then there is a lower octave, what should I do?

Hello! If I have a kalimba that is tuned in B how do I change the sheet to B?
You don’t have to. You can play C major song on B major kalimba by using numbered notation.
How do I play flats and sharps?
You would either change the tines on your Kalimba to sharp or flat notes, or transpose the song to C major.

How about Guitar Chords to Kalimba tabs?
Unfortunately, I don’t know much about the guitar, so I don’t how to do that.
A typical 22 fret guitar in standard tuning has a range from E2 to D6 and a 17C kalimba has a range from C4 to E6.
how do i do this if i don't have a computer
You can use the Musescore app and transpose the song you want into C major. (The song would need to be available on musescore though)
💕💕
please put subtitles in Portuguese too ^^
pc silva Added. 😊
Can you please convert, “you light up my life” to kalimba I’ve tried and tried I just can’t.
Leah Herrell I don’t really convert Tabs regularly, so this would take me a long time to do as I have other things going on as well. It probably would be faster to do this yourself, plus this would help you remember the Tabs better as you convert the Tabs. Is there any part you are confused about? I am happy to help you to figure this out.
i did that but it seems it's not the same song... i think i did something wrong
What song? I might be able to help you.
I did not understand the part how you could figure out what symbol means on the piano sheet means on the Kalimba tab ;_____;
