  • Read the description for a brief description of the video, a few minor corrections of slight editing errors, notable links, and new record improvements since the release of the video:
    𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
    This video provides a history of Ocarina of Time's any% speedrun from the game's release until November 2017. It should not be considered extremely detailed or comprehensive - going through all of the contributions and discoveries would take too long and wouldn't flow particularly well. However, I cover all of the major discoveries and provide simplified explanations of the technical glitches. I also cover some of the more obscure but interesting details.
    The video was somewhat rushed near the end of production and I didn't polish it as much as I would like. Hopefully you will enjoy it anyway, there are just some minor issues and editing errors (documented below). I will aim to improve my quality for future videos (this one is definitely a step up from my previous video).
    𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
    I referred to Mitjitsu as "Mitijitsu" at multiple places in the video. I wrote his name slightly wrong in the script and failed to double check - sorry about that!
    At 4:05, a corner card appears for a clip from Marc Rutzou that I removed, but forgot to delete the corner card for.
    At 26:49, there's a slight error where I accidentally show an entrance table screenshot of 0166 instead of 0165 for the Fire Temple.
    At 27:18, I forgot to add a corner card for the clip from Exodus which shows the credits warp.
    At 32:48, I accidentally said "March" instead of "May".
    At 45:02, the date in the corner card reads 07/00/2014 while it should be 07/09/2014.
    At 47:42, I said "there's only a 12.5% chance that a deku nut drop will occur from this enemy". I actually should have said "these enemies" rather than "this enemy", because you actually get the opportunity to kill two enemies which cumulatively give you a deku nut drop chance of 12.5%.
    At 51:43 onwards, I accidentally wrote 2016 instead of 2017 in the corner cards.
    Beyond these small errors, I am very confident that there are no other errors in the video. However, please feel free to let me know if you spot anything and I will add it to this section.
    𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬/𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞:

    As always, I recommend reading the description. If you notice any errors in the video let me know and I will add it under corrections in the video description. This video is not fully detailed (that would take way too long), nor is it as polished as I would've liked with a few minor issues, but hopefully you will still enjoy it a lot! Please feel free to leave any criticism that I can incorporate into future videos.

      I feel that trying to do history and progression at the same time ruined the video because you didn't focus on either well enough.

      @bmac4 6 лет назад +21

      Ebonmourn I disagree. Its good to explain why these things make it faster. Might have made it a bit long, but its fascinating to see how game design allowed for this kind of speedrun.

      The thing that pisses me off about Twin Galaxies is their stubborn adherence to "no exploits". In the competitive pinball scene, entire strategies are developed around exploits; for a perfect example, look up "Bowen vs the right ramp". This particular game features a cannon on the playfield that is fed from the right ramp. It can be aimed to various features, including the right ramp. You can probably guess where this is leading.

It's fascinating to see the lineage of discoveries this game gave to people, even 20 years later people were still playing the game, and like you said it's almost like it was all by design. I think in may ways this game is still the greatest game of all time, not only because of how revolutionary it was, but because of how perfect or imperfect the programming was that allowed people to do all these things. I think it's beyond a work of art, it's a thing of beauty.

      A.bit late here I guess, but oh well.
      BA (Bottle adventure) let's you put items on your sword button. So, pressing B could let you pull out bombs, a bow, deku sticks, etc.
      RBA is when you get items you shouldn't from having a bottle on B. So, if you had RBA set up and were still using the normal ocarina, you could use RBA to just replace it with the ocarina of time. You could also just give yourself bombs, bombchus, etc.

    To think that a 5 hour run would be absolutely broken into a much, MUCH slower time. That's my favorite thing with these world record progression videos, seeing the ridiculous improvements made over time. Funny enough this game's history reminds me WW and it's barrier skip glitch. Incredible to say the least.

    It's a good video but even if you're referring to a trans person before they transitioned or came out, it is still best to refer to them by what they go by now. How that part of the script should have been written was "and cosmo. It should be noted Cosmo has since transitioned and goes by Narcissa. Even though a lot of the videos were before the transition, I'll be referring to her as Narcissa."

    One thing that might help you decide on which jokes and asides to keep is something that I used to use to practice tech presentations:
    I'd write the script with no humor, maximum information per sentence. Then I'd read it aloud to a couple of people (this is incredibly important), and note any flow issues, or any jokes they or I had told.
    Repeat this process a couple of times, with people who have varying levels of interest or knowledge in the subject matter. Your script will end up flowing much better, and sounding more natural in tone.
    Remember that you want to be conversational but formal. Varying tone and expressing emotion are okay, but words like "whatever" and other fillers just make you sound bored, unimpressed, or unscientific. Given the vast amount of research you've conducted, that's a tragedy.
    Be friendly, but be the authority.
    EDIT: oh, and given just how long your videos are, I would suggest you record it in ... two minute chunks? Maybe up to five minutes? That way you have a chance to breathe, drink some water, and reset before filming the next piece, and you can also go back and re-record anything you don't like.

    You didn't cover Ganon's Castle early, which is for Light Arrows on B. I discovered that back in 06, but no one ever did it because it was thought to be too hard. It's not just the trick, but it's also the thought of pulling it off and then having your run killed by not being able to one cycle Ganondorf.

    • @retro-meister
      @retro-meister  6 лет назад +4

      There are many things I didn't cover. Going over everything would take far too long and I was pretty scared about going far past the hour mark. I just wanted to cover all of the main stuff and have it flow well. But yeah, I know about Ganon's Castle early being an issue with that route back then, but didn't feel like it was necessary enough to discuss.

    I deeply enjoyed this video. A lot of it reminded me of Narcissa Wright's any% run at AGDQ some years ago where she explained the history of the run, except this video is much more thorough. Really liked the scripting on this video, and the delivery. Great work! I also love the meticulous use of archived footage of all these runs. That must have taken a long time to compile.
    A few points of critique, only because I like the video as a whole:
    -The pauses in game footage seemed out-of-place, and made me think that my video wasn't working.
    -The mastering on the audio sounded very uneven. I couldn't listen to this with my headphones because there were times where you would put emphasis on a word and it would be much more powerful of a sound than the rest of the sentence. I don't know if it's a delivery issue, or a production issue, or even a hardware issue, so I can't give more substantial feedback, sorry.
    -The use of Wright's old name felt out of place. It's generally accepted when talking about a transgender person that you use their current name & pronouns largely as a matter of courtesy. I think the way that you went about it in this video was tactful and understandable, but it still felt strange for you to refer to a transgender woman as if she was not trans. (edit: the best way to have gone about this I think was to give the explanation of why you are using the name Cosmo, but still use her pronouns.)

    • @thizlam4810
      @thizlam4810 6 лет назад +12

      zegafregaomega He’s still a guy, regardless of what he wants to label himself as, chromosomes are chromosomes. This guy making the video doesn’t have to refer to cosmo as anything if he doesn’t want to, I’m surprised he even went through the hassle of explaining it.
      I always find it aggravating when someone insists that people accept them for who they are and at the same time force them to call them some other pronoun. If I look at you and you look like a guy I’m not going to start pretending to appease you. If you want to be called narcissa, I’ll call you that, but I’m not gonna call you a woman and say “her” when referring to you.

    • @zegafregaomega
      @zegafregaomega 6 лет назад +26

    • @thizlam4810
      @thizlam4810 6 лет назад +8

      zegafregaomega I do care about other people, I just choose to follow biology and science. If you want to dress in girls clothing, call yourself a woman and cut your penis off, by all means go for it, it’s your body your life do what you want. But don’t expect me or anyone else to refer to you as a woman, because you’re not a woman, you’re a man.
      Do whatever you want to do with your own life, but when it starts affecting MY life and people start demanding to be called a woman even though they have a dick and balls and a beard, that’s where I draw the line.
      If someone calls him cosmo, he and EVERYONE else should let it the fuck go, because just because he decided to be a woman doesn’t mean everyone else has to recognize him as a woman, and it just makes you look less tolerable by telling this guy he should refer to cosmo as a woman. Fuck that.
