I really like how Tina wasn't just a killer who followed Oliver around, she did her "job" protecting her brother and then when he showed her Elijah was someone he cared about she decided she was going to be just as protective over him. It's kind of sweet she had sort of already accepted him into the family 😂

I just love Tina vibe checking Elijah like "you better not hurt my little brother I'll f u up" and then coming to his rescue in the bathroom. And that she was able to always be there with Elijah and Oliver in their new lives. Surprisingly wholesome. (also RIP Ms. Murphy, she was the best goose).

Someone else explained it best in a different let's play of the game. By that point in the story, Eric realized that Elijah wasn't interested in him. Every attempt to enter a relationship by the former was ignored by the latter. Talking about it won't do anything, because it won't change the friendship status between them. Thing is, Eric wasn't entitled to a relationship with Elijah, and punishing him for the rejection just made the kid a "nice guy" before the meme exists.

I think it's bittersweet how Tina, despite the previous game was a bit mean to Oliver, in the end, she was still his big sister and protected him, becoming even a shadow monster that keeps lurking in the shadows for him

It's genuinely uncanny to me how much Elijah reminds me of myself. From his orientation, to his hairstyle, to his more solitary nature, to his habit of idly thinking up stories inspired by the world around him... hell, even his history of panic attacks, his victimization by homophobic scumbags, and his experience of encountering a shadow-creature while staying at a psychiatric facility. (Yes, _really.)_ One note about the Fernwood Center, by the way, because I suspect it's something that might be confusing to people: the complex isn't actually a psychiatric hospital, but is instead supposed to be more of a nature therapy-focused rehabilitation center akin to a tuberculosis sanitorium -- in fact, a lot of old TB wards around the US ended up being converted into such low-security clinics after their closure. On paper, they're supposed to be places where people can go to recover in peace and quiet; in practice, though, they're places where you get sent when the people in your life don't want to deal with you and your problems, but you aren't messed up badly enough to warrant a stay in a facility with padded cells and doors that lock from the outside. (Frankly, it's the _last_ place a patient with Aiden's violent record should've been sent -- from the dialogue, I get the feeling the only reason he avoided being sent someplace with a high-risk wing is thanks to his affluent family's donations to the Center.)
Ya I was very confused with the whole hospital part, the fact that they let you go outside and go shower/bathroom alone, ya would never happen. Not at any psychiatrist hospital I've stayed at. Especially the dorm doors being closed and lamps? Forget it. Thanks for clearing it up lol
@@CDexie I think the term 'mental health center' was the more popular phrase during the '90s when I was sent to one, so the game's accurate in that respect -- but yes, it would've been as accurate to call them rehabilitation centers, since rehabilitating 'troubled' youth was part of the mission statement. (And if you weren't 'troubled' when you checked _in,_ you'd probably have some serious baggage by the time you checked _out,_ I'd say.) Of course, rehabilitation was _also_ the theoretical point of a _penitentiary,_ so that gives you some idea of how patients at these places were viewed by the staff. The stigma against mental and emotional health issues was _very_ prominent even in the late '90s, even among the so-called professionals running the show in these sorts of places -- and as Eric's snide dismissal of Oliver's trauma as being worthy of an axe-murderer illustrates, even the patients tended to have little sympathy or understanding for one another, when you'd think they'd know better than anyone how rough it can be.
Elijah and Oliver lived happily ever after with wild ghost Tina as their bodyguard. Elijah and their daughter casually seeing the shadows around and not worried in the slightest cause its just Aunt Tina being a goof ball.😭💚
Not quite as nice when you consider the circumstances of Oliver's life. Two nanny's dead, one of whom was brutally murdered, Tina his sister tranformed into a near demonic entity with extreme over protectiveness. Almost feels like hes setting up the cycle to repeat itself.
Robin giving herself that little shoutout in the corner was adorable, ngl. She deserves SO much credit for her editing, and I love how much of her personality comes out in her commentary and cuts.

Unfortunately, it's a fairly accurate depiction of real mental hospitals. The only time staff would step in is if someone was actively beating someone up or even simply giving a new friend a hug as they leave. They would also step in if you were trying to explain your gender identity, pronouns, and sexual/romantic orientation. But someone going into graphic detail about s3x in front of SA survivors or victim blaming others? Nah, that's totally fine in the eyes of the staff!
Yeah, hatred and bigotry are not mental health disorders. They are choices made by people, often ones with brains free of such issues, which makes it so much more vile.
What a coward Eric was, he knew every bit of pain those dirtbags put Elijah through, that they were willing to actually hurt innocent lives with the goose, and even said he would fight for Elijah…. All to throw all of that to the wind in a fit of jealously. That coupled with the actual torture really hit differently for me as a bi person. But honestly, knowing that Elijah and Oliver got a happy ending, and how in that one scene where he cuddles with Elijah and let’s Tina know that Elijah is good, made this so beautiful in a way
I think the foreshadowing of the mother lion protecting its young really smart because it seems like a harmless detail, but it tells exactly how the events were happening.
~SPOILERS~ Ok, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because its been a while and i may be filling in some gaps on my own, but if I'm remembering things correctly from the last game it is at least heavily implied that Tina and Oliver's dad had cheated on his wife (Tina's mother) with their nanny at the time, who then later gave birth to Oliver. I _think_ it is somewhat implied that Oliver's dad may have killed the Nanny (perhaps she was going to confess?) and that at some point Oliver was adopted, unbeknownst to Oliver. Perhaps the Nanny was burried in the forest behind their house and her vengeful spirit eventually became the heart of the forest. That would explain why "mother" in this game refers to herself as such to Oliver because she is actually Oliver's mother and why she has such a strong connection to him and tries to get back to him. It would also kind of explain why she would be willing to go to the lengths of killing Tina (not her biological daughter) in order to keep her son there with her. Again don't know how much is confirmed and how much is just theory, but after watching this sequel, it makes me more inclined to believe it all.

Just watched them back to back and it was pretty apparent that the original "monster" was their first nanny, you could even see the eye patch. Don't think Sean caught it. I didn't understand how it all connected but I think you nailed it. Oliver's dad even had the picture of her in the lockbox. Would still like to know how the original nanny/Oliver's probable mom became a weird nature demon, but it all kinda makes more sense now. Especially with how Oliver referred to her as "Mother" and Tina referred to her as "nanny"
only thing is that i think they found the nanny’s body in the house thomas lived in. i remember that that was the nanny’s house before thomas and his parents moved in and i think it was tina or oliver that told thomas there was an ambulance at the nanny’s house so maybe they found her body there. it still doesnt explain how she was connected to the forest
the pixel art in this game is goddamn flawless, and as an aspiring writer with an anxiety disorder, I really identified with Elijah as a main character! Great indie find! I love these types of long-form indie playthoughs.

Tina is a perfect reflection of most older siblings. We can be bullies sometimes and be pretty junky...but when anything comes up we're gonna protect our younger siblings at all cost. It is only a fictional character...but if anyone would dare and hurt any of my siblings, that's how my soul would look like. No mercy for the ones who did the harm.

I once had someone out of the blue look me in the eye and say "people like you don't deserve to live" while I was just going about my day at school. It's unfortunate how realistic those bullies are. Brilliant story though, I really enjoyed watching this, even if I could totally relate to the way Elijah was treated.

As someone whos been put in mental health facilities multiple times, as well as dealing with bullying my whole life for how I look, or being transgender and queer (it still hasn’t stopped after 16 years), this hit close to home and was hard to watch at times. I’m grateful to see stories that show real world problems like this. Thank you Sean for your kind words, you make me feel safe even when all others in my life can’t except who I am. Hearing your words makes me hope that in the future I can be happy as my own being and not be scared to be in public, and having to always look over my shoulder and pretend I can’t hear the things people say. Or having to hold back tears when things are thrown at me like I’m some animal. To anyone who might not have a safe space or someone to talk to, I’m here and I except you and support you. Everyone should be treated equal, who you are isn’t wrong.
I literally cried at the end when Sean talked about being supportive of the LGBTQIA+, I've watched him for years and hearing someone who's been in your life for that long tell you that you are supported and safe around them is very meaningful to a lot of people and me. there’s a compilation called something along the lines of “jack being an ally for 5 minutes straight” that i watch when i’m feeling shitty, it really helps :) honestly there’s probably way more than 5 mins that could be used for a compilation but it’s a nice video all the same
Even though I already knew I’m sitting here smiling because having someone, especially a person with a lot of influence/reach, explicitly state that this is a safe space where you are accepted really means a lot. I’m lucky to have the people around me being supportive but so many don’t and I can imagine that hearing this must mean so much when you might not be able to be yourself or maybe even admit to yourself that you are part of the lgbtq+ community due to fear and unaccepting people.

Sorry, but not everyone is like that kid in the game..many just want to live their life without someone flaunting their sexuality like it's a badge of honor. That is the real issue for me at least. Be whatever. I would never ask or even care to know unless I had interest in you. If I didn't have any interest in you, then I would not have interest in knowing your sexuality. Another issue is handling these discussions in schools to children too young to even understand these concepts. Is there infiltration in school, absolutely. Which is why parents push against it. Let's not forget confusing trans individuals as having the same sexual interest as their created persona. Becoming a trans woman doesn't mean the individual no longer desires natural women. Which creates many problems, again in school and sports. It doesn't help either when activists claim words are murder, discussion is murder, and questions are murder. Making people like you seem so pathetic that you need special care in any form of debate or discussion. Making the groups seem so weak doesn't help the cause. Instead of displaying conviction of choice, responsibility. Handling of negativity. But again, how that kid acted is the very worse of humanity. They exist, but represent even less of the population than any alphabet group. Of course, my even stating this much could paint me as a bad person. That's just the reality of things.

I liked how at the end you saw Oliver finding his happiness. Even in his 20th birthday photo you can see he is smiling and looking at the camera, instead of frowning and looking away. In terms of game I liked the previous games better as experiences but I am glad that this one had a happy ending.

I’m an aromantic asexual, which often means being excluded from LGBT communities due to my lack of attraction and straight communities for the same reason. It can be very isolating, like there’s no where for me to go. I’ve felt so broken at times. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Seán for providing a space for me and anyone else who has felt isolated to feel safe.

For Sean’s his speech at the end about this being a safe space for LGBTQIA+ community- I’m not openly out and in a disheartening situation. Hearing creators like Sean be supportive is a comfort in the scheme of my own journey. I’m still figuring things out but I can’t thank him and Gabs enough for being a distraction and kind souls. Sean does tend to get lost in gameplay but him missing that Oli and Elijah being a couple is honestly understandable in the midst of that story.

I teared up, too. He's never had me crying like that. Now I love him even more than I've already have. I am bi, but I've had more bfs than gfs and had countless people tell me I'm not bi because of it. It saddens me. My own grandmother disowned me over it, but my mother always told me, the same as I tell my daughter now who is interested in girls, that as long as you are happy and kind it doesn't matter who you love.

I legit cried during the speech at the end. As a British trans person who is constantly bullied in school (not to this extent however), and one who has been watching Jacks content for years, this resonated so strongly with me. I've been in a bit of a low place for a while and this just made me feel so much more positive about myself. This was such a great game. I know seeing that type of real-life horror in video games is a hot button issue but it really does prove that humans are the real monster all along. Also the "Not This One" vibes from Oliver to Tina is such a top tier trope in any media, the fact that she was even cognizant enough to recognize that and be a part of their lives from beyond the grave... excellent writing ♥️

(What im about to say now is part of my personal life) When i came "out of the closet" to my dad he was furious of me and hated me, and he already hated me enough bc of my mom. He disowned me. I also had feelings for a friend of mine me and her have been friends for years. I told her how i felt. She was homophobic and religious (in a bad way) she called me the devil, said i was 'possesed', 'corrupted' and 'worked for him' etc. After she blocked me. Someone else explained it best in a different let's play of the game. By that point in the story, Eric realized that Elijah wasn't interested in him. Every attempt to enter a relationship by the former was ignored by the latter. Talking about it won't do anything, because it won't change the friendship status between them. Thing is, Eric wasn't entitled to a relationship with Elijah, and punishing him for the rejection just made the kid a "nice guy" before the meme exists.

It's genuinely uncanny to me how much Elijah reminds me of myself. From his orientation, to his hairstyle, to his more solitary nature, to his habit of idly thinking up stories inspired by the world around him... hell, even his history of panic attacks, his victimization by homophobic scumbags, and his experience of encountering a shadow-creature while staying at a psychiatric facility. (Yes, _really.)_
One note about the Fernwood Center, by the way, because I suspect it's something that might be confusing to people: the complex isn't actually a psychiatric hospital, but is instead supposed to be more of a nature therapy-focused rehabilitation center akin to a tuberculosis sanitorium -- in fact, a lot of old TB wards around the US ended up being converted into such low-security clinics after their closure. On paper, they're supposed to be places where people can go to recover in peace and quiet; in practice, though, they're places where you get sent when the people in your life don't want to deal with you and your problems, but you aren't messed up badly enough to warrant a stay in a facility with padded cells and doors that lock from the outside. (Frankly, it's the _last_ place a patient with Aiden's violent record should've been sent -- from the dialogue, I get the feeling the only reason he avoided being sent someplace with a high-risk wing is thanks to his affluent family's donations to the Center.)

@@CDexie I think the term 'mental health center' was the more popular phrase during the '90s when I was sent to one, so the game's accurate in that respect -- but yes, it would've been as accurate to call them rehabilitation centers, since rehabilitating 'troubled' youth was part of the mission statement. (And if you weren't 'troubled' when you checked _in,_ you'd probably have some serious baggage by the time you checked _out,_ I'd say.)
Of course, rehabilitation was _also_ the theoretical point of a _penitentiary,_ so that gives you some idea of how patients at these places were viewed by the staff. The stigma against mental and emotional health issues was _very_ prominent even in the late '90s, even among the so-called professionals running the show in these sorts of places -- and as Eric's snide dismissal of Oliver's trauma as being worthy of an axe-murderer illustrates, even the patients tended to have little sympathy or understanding for one another, when you'd think they'd know better than anyone how rough it can be.

Unfortunately, it's a fairly accurate depiction of real mental hospitals. The only time staff would step in is if someone was actively beating someone up or even simply giving a new friend a hug as they leave.
They would also step in if you were trying to explain your gender identity, pronouns, and sexual/romantic orientation. But someone going into graphic detail about s3x in front of SA survivors or victim blaming others? Nah, that's totally fine in the eyes of the staff!

But honestly, knowing that Elijah and Oliver got a happy ending, and how in that one scene where he cuddles with Elijah and let’s Tina know that Elijah is good, made this so beautiful in a way
I think the foreshadowing of the mother lion protecting its young really smart because it seems like a harmless detail, but it tells exactly how the events were happening.

Ok, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because its been a while and i may be filling in some gaps on my own, but if I'm remembering things correctly from the last game it is at least heavily implied that Tina and Oliver's dad had cheated on his wife (Tina's mother) with their nanny at the time, who then later gave birth to Oliver.
I _think_ it is somewhat implied that Oliver's dad may have killed the Nanny (perhaps she was going to confess?) and that at some point Oliver was adopted, unbeknownst to Oliver. Perhaps the Nanny was burried in the forest behind their house and her vengeful spirit eventually became the heart of the forest.
That would explain why "mother" in this game refers to herself as such to Oliver because she is actually Oliver's mother and why she has such a strong connection to him and tries to get back to him. It would also kind of explain why she would be willing to go to the lengths of killing Tina (not her biological daughter) in order to keep her son there with her.
Again don't know how much is confirmed and how much is just theory, but after watching this sequel, it makes me more inclined to believe it all.
I wasn't sure about the adoption. But the rest mostly liines up with my thoughts on it from what I could remember.

Just watched them back to back and it was pretty apparent that the original "monster" was their first nanny, you could even see the eye patch. Don't think Sean caught it. I didn't understand how it all connected but I think you nailed it. Oliver's dad even had the picture of her in the lockbox. Would still like to know how the original nanny/Oliver's probable mom became a weird nature demon, but it all kinda makes more sense now. Especially with how Oliver referred to her as "Mother" and Tina referred to her as "nanny"

the pixel art in this game is goddamn flawless, and as an aspiring writer with an anxiety disorder, I really identified with Elijah as a main character! Great indie find! I love these types of long-form indie playthoughs.

As someone whos been put in mental health facilities multiple times, as well as dealing with bullying my whole life for how I look, or being transgender and queer (it still hasn’t stopped after 16 years), this hit close to home and was hard to watch at times. I’m grateful to see stories that show real world problems like this. Thank you Sean for your kind words, you make me feel safe even when all others in my life can’t except who I am. Hearing your words makes me hope that in the future I can be happy as my own being and not be scared to be in public, and having to always look over my shoulder and pretend I can’t hear the things people say. Or having to hold back tears when things are thrown at me like I’m some animal. To anyone who might not have a safe space or someone to talk to, I’m here and I except you and support you. Everyone should be treated equal, who you are isn’t wrong.

there’s a compilation called something along the lines of “jack being an ally for 5 minutes straight” that i watch when i’m feeling shitty, it really helps :) honestly there’s probably way more than 5 mins that could be used for a compilation but it’s a nice video all the same
Even though I already knew I’m sitting here smiling because having someone, especially a person with a lot of influence/reach, explicitly state that this is a safe space where you are accepted really means a lot. I’m lucky to have the people around me being supportive but so many don’t and I can imagine that hearing this must mean so much when you might not be able to be yourself or maybe even admit to yourself that you are part of the lgbtq+ community due to fear and unaccepting people.

The betrayal of Eric really got me in this game partially because it's something that could happen to us and have to deal with in our daily lives, I also hate the lack of closure we get about it, fucking great game, fucking great video 10/10

Be whatever. I would never ask or even care to know unless I had interest in you. If I didn't have any interest in you, then I would not have interest in knowing your sexuality.
Another issue is handling these discussions in schools to children too young to even understand these concepts. Is there infiltration in school, absolutely. Which is why parents push against it.
Let's not forget confusing trans individuals as having the same sexual interest as their created persona. Becoming a trans woman doesn't mean the individual no longer desires natural women. Which creates many problems, again in school and sports.
It doesn't help either when activists claim words are murder, discussion is murder, and questions are murder. Making people like you seem so pathetic that you need special care in any form of debate or discussion. Making the groups seem so weak doesn't help the cause. Instead of displaying conviction of choice, responsibility. Handling of negativity.
But again, how that kid acted is the very worse of humanity. They exist, but represent even less of the population than any alphabet group.

I liked how at the end you saw Oliver finding his happiness. Even in his 20th birthday photo you can see he is smiling and looking at the camera, instead of frowning and looking away. In terms of game I liked the previous games better as experiences but I am glad that this one had a happy ending.

I’m an aromantic asexual, which often means being excluded from LGBT communities due to my lack of attraction and straight communities for the same reason. It can be very isolating, like there’s no where for me to go. I’ve felt so broken at times. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Seán for providing a space for me and anyone else who has felt isolated to feel safe.

For Sean’s his speech at the end about this being a safe space for LGBTQIA+ community- I’m not openly out and in a disheartening situation. Hearing creators like Sean be supportive is a comfort in the scheme of my own journey. I’m still figuring things out but I can’t thank him and Gabs enough for being a distraction and kind souls.
Sean does tend to get lost in gameplay but him missing that Oli and Elijah being a couple is honestly understandable in the midst of that story.

I teared up, too. He's never had me crying like that. Now I love him even more than I've already have. I am bi, but I've had more bfs than gfs and had countless people tell me I'm not bi because of it. It saddens me. as a queer person who legitimatly fears this stuff (ive experienced stuff close to it and know ppl who have had stuff like that) this game made me so happy. showing the truth behind it, how we are attacked for doing nothing wrong (often times ppl think we like made advances on someone adn they attacked) i loved how the fact that elijah was gay wasnt the main aspect of the story (ik it played a major part but it wasnt all about just him being gay) there was just so much amazing about this game and thank you so much for playing it sean

As a British trans person who is constantly bullied in school (not to this extent however), and one who has been watching Jacks content for years, this resonated so strongly with me. I've been in a bit of a low place for a while and this just made me feel so much more positive about myself. This was such a great game. I know seeing that type of real-life horror in video games is a hot button issue but it really does prove that humans are the real monster all along.

(What im about to say now is part of my personal life)
When i came "out of the closet" to my dad he was furious of me and hated me, and he already hated me enough bc of my mom. He disowned me. I also had feelings for a friend of mine me and her have been friends for years. I told her how i felt. She was homophobic and religious (in a bad way) she called me the devil, said i was 'possesed', 'corrupted' and 'worked for him' etc. After she blocked me. So what you said at the end about how people in the lgbtq do matter, how everyone matter, and how this is a safe place makes me happy and even made me tear up a bit thank you Jack. It also helped that i look up to you and want to be a youtuber to make people laugh and entertain people like you do.❤
