The workmanship on this roof is amazing, but so are the explanations and the filmography. It is clear you're a professional bunch! Thank you all!
Very good installing singles off ,plywood repaired or replaced ,tops. After that they installed 1 X 4” horizontal also 16” apart. Then they installed the standing seam steel as advised by the manufacturer. The crew was experienced with standing seam steel roofs . Although i insisted in the vertical installing of the 1X 4”,S.

What does the install guide say about dog earing or filing the open area with sealant? The pipes. Wouldn’t sliding those metal covers over them create an ever so small area water could get in from?
Hi, great video. At 16.32 he states to fan the panels to come in square on the last panel. But, how can you fan the panels with the standing seams over lapping? I don't see where there would be play in an 8' to 12' seam to accomplish this?
Nice clean job! I’ve never thought about boxing out a stack like that. 👍 I usually move them to land in the center of the panel on the back of the roof. Didn’t like the use of screws on the cap...rivets look better. Also, synthetic underlayments require cap staples.

If you are referring to the gap they create for airflow at the ridge vent, then typically 4" slot (2" down each side) also try and keep that slot cut 2 feet away from the ends of the roof as well as any valley junctions
Great question, because they used a non-stick underlayment, the screws are not sealed...the backing on a peel and stick underlayment acts as a self-seal around any screw/nail that penetrates it if that makes sense...thats why I do not recommend using a non-stick underlayment under a metal roof

Hello there, how do the boys flash two 45 degree sheets on the ridge, keeping the standing seam or ridge profile or prickle along the top of the ridge please? I'm looking for a 12 inch ridge cap but must have no welding folded to 45 degrees for architectural appearance, rather than basic flat ridge cap. Thankyou.
I wanted to do standing seam but I'm building my house solo. I've never done it and am running outta time. I'm gonna have to go with regular steel roofing unfortunately.
I briefly thought about replacing my old shingle roof with a metal roof. I foolishly thought I could learn it myself on youtube. There is no way I would ever attempt something this complex on my own after watching this video. Especially when the repercussions of any errors are severe with the nature of the product.
Thanks for all your informative videos. I bought my first house and 3 days later CV-19 shut my industry down. I need a roof on a budget so I'm putting on a metal roof by myself. It's a job! How many guys did you have on the roof and how long did it take from start to finish? I'm currently doing a ton of wood work I wasn't expecting and the tear off had so many nails you'd have thought it was a metal roof!
Hi James. Did you end up replacing your roof yourself? I just bought my first house also and found out during inspection that it needs a whole new roof (not replaced in ‘09 like the realtor stated) and I don’t have the budget to pay for the labor. What manufacturer did you go with? I would like an 1.5” standing seam but I have started researching manufacturing yet. Any tips on instillation? Underlaying brands?
Do the fasteners screw anywhere on the plywood or do they need to be screwed into the rafters? Also my roof has OSB sheathing and I live in hurricane country.
Anywhere into the plywood... the screws they are using in the video are designed to go into plywood...what you have to consider is the thickness of the plywood though...the thinner the plywood the thick the screw needs to be...there are wind uplift engineering reports for each type of screw, but your manufacturer will be able to help with that
Why no 1x4's installed for ventilation under the metal panels? The metal panels will sweat on the backside, especially up North. Without proper ventilation, that sweat will not evaporate, causing mold and mildew issues.
yes absolutely...but installing horizontal lines as opposed to vertically opposed panels presents another issue...if your roof is steeper than 6/12 standing of metal shingles can be difficult whereas with standing seam you are always standing on a grippy surface while you install.
If you have an attic where the rafters are insulated with open cell sprayed in place insulation how to you handle the build up of heat under the metal standing seam roof? Are there ventilation products other than wood furring strips that can be used as an underlayment for the standing seam roof?
@@TRE_-HEINZ How is it going to do that without a venting space under the metal roofing since it is not venting from the attic. Wood strapping increases the depth of the fascia by 1 1/2" inches which is too much plus due to the spacing of the straps it is unadvisable to walk on the metal roofing. There has to be a product that provides solid underlayment without increasing the depth.
you referring to what we call a "hot roof" installation...the best way to tackle this type of roof is to create a ventilated air space along the underside of the metal panel...afew ways you can do this is either double strap the roof or vertical strap and a second layer of plywood creating verical channels that can be ventilated with an eave opening + ridge vent ventilation system

If my sheets are wider than my roof and I’m using gable trim what do I do since I’ll be cutting my rib off
Do the fasteners screw anywhere on the plywood or do they need to be screwed into the rafters? Also my roof has OSB sheathing and I live in hurricane country.
Anywhere into the plywood... the screws they are using in the video are designed to go into plywood...what you have to consider is the thickness of the plywood though...the thinner the plywood the thick the screw needs to be...there are wind uplift engineering reports for each type of screw, but your manufacturer will be able to help with that
Why no 1x4's installed for ventilation under the metal panels? The metal panels will sweat on the backside, especially up North. Without proper ventilation, that sweat will not evaporate, causing mold and mildew issues.
it will rust panels from underside , you better vent that sweat
impressive quality workmanship! I would use you guys in a heartbeat... I'm in Calgary Alberta, how much would a rook like that cost?
so when you look up under cap youll see screws?
Wow this is complex - after watching some of the kasselwood videos, metal shingles seem more user-friendly for DIYers.. is that the case?
yes absolutely...but installing horizontal lines as opposed to vertically opposed panels presents another issue...if your roof is steeper than 6/12 standing of metal shingles can be difficult whereas with standing seam you are always standing on a grippy surface while you install.
If decking is in good condition do you need to remove shingles
If you have an attic where the rafters are insulated with open cell sprayed in place insulation how to you handle the build up of heat under the metal standing seam roof? Are there ventilation products other than wood furring strips that can be used as an underlayment for the standing seam roof?
you can have the roof vent from the ridge cap, with a vented ridge if that helps any
@@TRE_-HEINZ How is it going to do that without a venting space under the metal roofing since it is not venting from the attic. Wood strapping increases the depth of the fascia by 1 1/2" inches which is too much plus due to the spacing of the straps it is unadvisable to walk on the metal roofing. There has to be a product that provides solid underlayment without increasing the depth.
@@gary24752 they vent the top of the ridge with a 1 inch cut in the roof then vented z closure then ridge cap on top
you referring to what we call a "hot roof" installation...the best way to tackle this type of roof is to create a ventilated air space along the underside of the metal panel...afew ways you can do this is either double strap the roof or vertical strap and a second layer of plywood creating verical channels that can be ventilated with an eave opening + ridge vent ventilation system
