IL2 1946 is one of the best combat flight simulators ever made, along with one of the best Mod Packs ever assembled for it.
Yes I still play the game because it has so many improvements from the mods.
The replayability is incredible. Had high hopes for a new flight sim but nothing has surpassed this one since.
@@doopy7227 that says it all. Great Battles is good but does not come close in maps and flyable planes.
Enemy pilots actually leave their flaming aircraft and take to their schutes on this version of VP :)
IL-2 1946 VP modpack is my favorite mod, I hope the 2022 version will be better... It definitely is, and I believe so. Thanks a lot.

I like the anti aircraft effects in this version of the game. I think you will still find that BAT is the best mod. Let me know what you think of this no hurry.
I love VP Modpack, I just the wish the AI didnt have such laser-beam accuracy.
You can fix your start up screen that cut off by going to the il2 exe and click on properties and go to compatibilty tab and at bottom select the area that says change high dpi settings. Next check the box that say Override High DPI Scaling behavior. Back out check the box disable full screen optimizations. That should fix your screen and resolution issue i found this fix online because i had this very same issue. I watched your video on the 1946 Bat mod and recently installed it, and want to thank you for your video on installation. 👍👍

I never gave up VP mod, using it my Luftwaffe 1946 campaign.
Still one of the best mods, I like it’s simplicity BAT is good but over modded
@@callsignnictmere465 And filled up with glitches. You are about Ww2 only you should be fine with VP and install Jet war and Jet age 1956. Anything beyond the analog era is expandable.
So must I download all 12 files or simply the first one? When I downloaded all 12, my 001 file said it was corrupted when I attempted to open it.
Can’t wait to try this and compare with BAT.
If you try out the game Robert i recommend a naval mission the AAA fire from capital ships is intense. I have the luxury of disk space so I have more than B.A.T. on my computer back in the day there was ultrapack HSFX Dark Blue World CUP and yPack I may have missed some. I think right now since B.A.T. Flash Point has triggers in the mission builder there is no need for HSFX 7.3, it still is a good mod however the bottom line is B.A.T is still updated that is hard to beat.
I only play WWII, but am interested whether the B.A.T., VP, yPack or HSFX mods are the best choice. I'm more interested in quality of graphics and gameplay than quantity of planes. Can I have more than one of these mods at the same time?
@@Ruweisat yes I have 4 versions of the game BAT vp ypack and dark blue world I used HSFX for the longest since BAT added triggers I stopped using HSFX. Just copy a base version of the game 4.12m into another folder then add another mod to it.
If anyone has a trouble unzip the .7z file, you need to change this file name , add .7z to it in the end of the file name.
I wonder if the latest Selector will work. The dump mode would afford an easy way to get stuff such as map textures.
Sorry to be a bug on the wall. The mod looks beautiful, but certain planes will crash the game back to the desktop. I am still waiting for Misson4Today to approve my account--created one on Sunday. Specifically, all the variants of the B-17 Flying Fortress crash the game... Love that bird. Many of the other planes, including the PBY Catalina are modeled beautifully and work, even without the water at MAX (darn laptop life).
I have not tried all the planes in the game there are so many, but so far I have not had any CTD’s yes if you could post on M4T that would be helpful. Thanks.

I have a problem. The 001 zip file does not contain the main files like in the video. Instead it contains vpmodpack_2022_7z with a "File" type document. When I extract and try to click it, it cant seem to open and it says that it is corrupted. It also says that the archive is corrupted when i try to open with winrar. I tried to redownload the 001 file but it still happens. Did I do something wrong or should I wait for the VPMedia team to fix the download source?

So you do the same with all 12 files unzip and overwrite into the game folder? Where to the other files go? And the md5?
is your link still the latest version because when i search vpmod i get a different forum, also for ww2 flying wich modpack is the best, i am new to this and don't know the benefits of all the different modpacks ypack, vpmod, hsfx, bat,
B.A.T. still has developers. VP media will do occasional updates. The link is for the latest version of vp1.2
I have make all the same Steps from the video but the game when i click on on selector or the il2fb icon but the game stays on start screen and the game it opens but it doesn't even show the start screen that came out
My Version is the downloaded V.4.13.2 I dont know if i have to downgreat or no..
The only version it works it is the "stock" version

Felipe at 04:50 of the video it explains the process of getting the 4.12m version from Steam. You will need to try it again Vp will only work with version 4.12m. Don’t be discouraged it just takes some time.
ok everything works now just one last question why can't I change my terrain quality to perfect?
In the main screen select the set up options. Then select video modes. On the top options driver make sure it is set to OPEN GL if direct x is selected you will not get the perfect setting option.

I did every step you did and I'm stuck on the loading screen at 95% and also the pictures on the loading screen are default
I am not sure what the issue is. I have had installs in the past not run. Starting over has worked.
I realize how computer illiterate I am when I see these. Wish there was an auto update.

Hi @callsignnictmere465 thanks a lot for this video. I successfully installed VP 1.2. I'm back in the Il-2 world after 15 years (I used to play when it was in its heyday around the mid-2000s!). I'd like to install Lowengin's DCG but I don't know if it's compatible with the VP modpack 1.2. Maybe you (or anyone else) can help? I've already looked into the Mission4Today and SAS forums but couldn't find anything useful...
Welcome back VP 1.2 is an outstanding mod. I have wanting to try the DCG for the longest but I have never got around to it. I can only recommend to check if the DCG comes with a readme install instructions guide.

@@callsignnictmere465 many thanks! I'll proceed and keep you posted. One big limitation in the "old" Il-2 was the lack of big maps depicting the ETO. I've seen that among the new maps there's one called Cross Channel (I guess) which is exactly what I've been looking for, showing southern England and Northern France, Belgium etc.. Still it doesn't seem to be used much: on mission4today I couldn't find any ETO campaign based on that map nor in the VP modpack (they're all using that adaptation of the old Normandy map which is far from ideal IMHO).

@@callsignnictmere465 ok I looked into DCG but it doesn't seem to have what I was looking for, which is, a single player USAAF 1943-45 campaign using the big channel map (it looks like I'll have to create one by myself as I can't find one!). Plus the DCG readme doesn't mention compatibility with VP so I decided not to install it and risk messing things up.
Anyways, I wanted to ask you, I've added the RESHADE mod thru JSGME and checked your other video about it, however if I press the "home" key to open the "reshade selection menu" nothing happens/shows up. Any idea as to why?
I would like to get this game looking like those but I bought the game from GOG and for the life of me I can not get this game to run in perfect mode. I have done everything and perfect mode is unreachable. I have windows 11. Have researched the internet up and down and done everything possible.
Clint check on this in game main screen go into set up then video options at the top option under driver make sure it is set to Open GL after that you should be able to select perfect. You will not be able to run perfect in DirectX

I can actually force it to run in perfect and I can see the water 4 and forest 3 but it runs really bad, it’s like a driver issue but I don’t understand why if i have an Envidea RTX 4070 with latest drivers. I have done everything I could possibly do. It’s ok, I’m thinking of getting me the new version of IL2.

Thanks for the video. I can"t seem to get the water foam or the missions to show in the QMB just the few default Midway and Hawaii ones when I select load. I do see all the mods I've selected in JSME in game like Flyby, reshade etc..not sure what I did wrong?! Any ideas? Cheers!
Lets start at the beginning in your main game files open the conf file with notepad make sure water is at 3 example:
VideoSetupId=2
Water=3
Effects=0
ForceShaders1x=0
PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0
if not manually type in the 3 save exit start the game.
In game setting your video display options the lower one make sure your landscape detail setting is at perfect.
There are also some water mods like water=4 in jgsme enable it if you have it, also do not forget to update your conf water to =4
When you run your missions, QMB or if you create your own missions in Conditions always set your weather to POOR you will then see the white caps on the ocean. Let me know how it goes.

@@callsignnictmere465 I'm using version 4.2.2m. I've installed VP Modpack 1.2 Beta as per your video and patched it. I never used the old version of the mod pack. Right now I do have the foam as I must of missed the poor weather setting note! I still can't see any missions in Pal QMB just the default Midway and Hawaii ones. Thanks!!

I do not know what causes a 70% CTD I recommend you go to the IL2 1946 SAS Forum: www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,266.0.html and do a search on: 70% CTD to look for a solution. Best regards.
I successfully installed and video plays but I have no sounds of any kind. What to do?
Go into the games setup options in the main screen try different sounds settings that will be compatible with your computers sound card.
@@callsignnictmere465 I tried that. The only setting available is DirectX. My sound card is not listed.

i have this but when i use the flybys in the jsgme mod theres no sound.
Disable the flyby sound in jsgme, download the flyby here drive.google.com/drive/folders/158J9YICXInjf6jk4REeXt7XcbjqU6aOH?usp=drive_link after you download the file unzip and place the flyby sound folder in your games #WAW3 folder you should be good to go when you depress the F3 key in game.

Where do you get the Il2 Selector executable? I remember using that for BAT, but I reinstalled everything to try out VP Mod on my new laptop. I downloaded the Mega Patch as recommended.
After you install VPmodpack the selector will be found in your main game file directory.
@@callsignnictmere465 Stupidly, I forgot to install Winzip to extract the files... Windows 11... I remembered extracting BAT--but I think I had downloaded winzip much earlier. Windows 11 for the fail (and me)
I reinstalled everything and for some reason, the VP mod decided to create a folder with all the mods within my il2 directory. Now the mod won't start... I am trying to move everything in the VP mod back to the main il2 directory (not in a separate folder). Might be Windows 11 being funky again :( EDIT: That worked, but now the mod can't find the missions folder. Can I email you a screenshot of my file directory if you don't mind problem solving? Sometimes I'm scared to post on the SAS forum--even the beginner's section :) Also, I never get the option to select "VP mod" on the drop down of the Il2 Selector--only SAS Modact seems to load up.

I don't know if you'll respond... but I did everything succesffully in this video, including editing the config files. But the launch screen opens for a few seconds and goes back out, is there anything you can suggest that would help? Please.
go into game files open the file named conf it will open with notepad at the very top under windows are the two screen resolutions example

make sure they match your monitors screen resolution if not just backspace and type in the numbers hit save the re start the game you should be good to go.

Nope it will not however I highly recommend the ypack mod for 4.13m you can find it here: www.patrulla-azul.com/FreeIL2modding/forum/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=3077 you may have to join the forum. This is an outstanding mod similar to VP and I still use it from time to time.

@@JoneFox0705 4.12.2m is the version you want to use. It can will work with the VP mod or BAT. I would go with BAT as it still receives updates from a very talented bunch of contributers.

yes, I wrote that chrome gives out 4.12.2m, but this is an updater, I tried using it to replace the current game files with 4.12.2m files

Most likely there is no Italian campaign in the game you can download one from mission 4 today.

@@classiccorvega5989 If you are a new player I think the stock game is good, and as you get experienced go with the mods. If you like to play downloaded campaings or single missions yes go with the mod'ed versions of the game.

The game doesnt start, nothing happens either by using selector or il2fb. Anybody knows whats causing this?
Try opening the conf file with word pad at the top see if your screen resolution numbers match your monitors. If not just type them in hit save and start the game. Example

@@shaggyultra69 The good thing about IL2 1946 is that you can run multiple versions on your computer (hard drive space) I play both so here is what I did the base 4.12 version of the game. I copied the entire game files (Ctl + A) and created a folder named it Vp and another named it BAT and pasted in the game files. I later added the mods VP and BAT both games are well worth your time. I would give BAT the edge as it still receives updates. So does VP media, yet BAT is updated more often. Play them both and then decide. Just my 2 cents. Happy flying.

Most of the RAF campaigns are buggy mess. For example you and your flights spawn at the same position on the runway and exploed or you spawn as a single pink plane in the middle of nowhere in the field game over.
You may want to try some new ones. What version of the game do you run?
I'm running 4.12.2 Steam version. The US and RAF Channel campaigns especially the bug I've mention above are 100% will happen.
The RAF generic PTO (Pacific theatre) campaign singapore map are affected too but the burma map work fine.
But the other nation campaigns than I've mentioned above are working fine and vpmod are great. And thank you so much for the tutorial. Cheers mate.
