Thank you so much for your help. What a difference to my machine. So easy and it make such a wonderful change to my machines disposition. I did not have a rattle noise, but I was breaking needles left and right after a good cleaning. Glad to be back in business.
I just did this to my Brother machine and it WORKED!!!! Thank you for this fix. The rattle was driving me nuts. I had done just what you did. Bought all new parts and it didn't help. This simple fix worked great.
I bought a Futura SEQS 6700 used from a guy a couple months ago. Took me some time to find a safe permanent spot and set it all up and to find a computer I could install the software on and would read the cable from pc to machine. It worked beautifully for me starting out with basic sewing a quilt for my son. Then I finally got the embroidery part set up and I forgot to change needles. Of course I ended up with a broken needle and then it would embroider for the most part beautifully until it came to the final satin stitching around the edges and it would bird nest halfway through the design. I found your other video about sanding the throat plate and that worked for a second design and then I tried my first design again and halfway through bird nest. I really thought he sold me a bad machine because of the terrible reviews on this specific machine. Turns out the bobbin case was ate up, so I changed that out and sanded the throat plate again and I’m praying tomorrow when I try the first design again with a smaller needle it will go smoothly. I’m new to embroidery and I don’t care how many bad reviews a machine has 99.8% of the issues is strictly caused by user error. I had no clue it mattered that my presser foot was up while threading the machine, that a needle strike/break could cause my throat plate to shear my thread, or the bobbin case had any bearing on my top thread. I feel like an idiot now because I was so close to literally cussing this poor innocent man out for something that was not his fault. I am going to order a few more extra bobbin cases and a throat plate for my machine this week just to have on hand. Thank you so much for saving me major embarrassment and beyond frustration between your threading videos, the presser foot having to be up, sanding the throat plate and bobbin case, and the most important thing, not to junk the machine and to do process of elimination. Now off to find, hopefully, you doing a video on oiling these machines.
Omg thank u so much, i’m a little emotional right now something as simple as tightening up the screws save me from bringing my machine to the shop and it worked. Thank u again 👍🏾
Thank you for your video. I have the XL400 and just encountered this issue over the weekend. I stopped my project because I thought something was wrong with the machine and I needed to take it to the repair person. This fixed my issue. Thank you once again.
Love your straight forward attitude, I am the same way. Great channel, new sub. I put my Futura on the shelf for several years because I bought it specifically for metallic thread. Was having the same issues as you but got too frustrated, and my beautiful thread was just collecting dust along with the machine with that irritating bobbin clunking. I am artistic but not mechanically inclined unless I see someone do it. Your tutorials are excellent. Unfortunately my power cord got misplaced when others helped me reconfigure my craft space to make it more accessible, (I have a disability) but as soon as I replace or find it, I get to play! I just wanted to stop by and say thank you. 😆
Thanks, Christopher! You found the solution and generously shared your knowledge. I do not have this particular machine, but if I ever have a rattling noise emanating from one of my machines, I will remember this tip for sure! You're the best.👍🏽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wanted to add...I was having a similar rattle on my Janome Memory Craft 10000. I removed the hoop mid embroidery and rethreaded the bobbin case and at the last minute decided to add a small amount of sewers aid to the bobbin thread and my rattle completely stopped. I don't think anything was caught in the bobbin case so I think the sewers aid helped. I usually put some on before I start so maybe putting some on mid embroidery (during a color change) would help. I also use it on my top thread. Just a drop on the bobbin and I smear it with my finger. Just a line on the embroidery thread top to bottom.
Hi Christhopher...Greetings from India.. Thank you thank you so much due to this video ..I was able fix my xl 550 bobin noise. the brand new machine was sounding like a tin can with stones in it at full speed.. I used ur tip and checked my bobbin and throat plat and notice that under neat the throat plat there is a small piece which looks like a can opener hardly had any clearance and was almost touching the bobbin case..all I did was took a big screw driver and bent it a little towards the throat plate giving enough clear ce for the bobbin thread to circle inside without rattling.. and got it fixed without buying the spares which in my case would be impossible since singer doesnt service xl 550 over here..thank thank you I've learnt a lot form your video keep on doing the good work... aloe let me know I can send u the pic on the part that I bent which solved the issue for me right away.
Thank you for this video. I have a Singer Heritage Limited Edition and for the life of me I could not figure out how to fix that rattling. This is definitely a Singer engineering flaw. I no longer have rattling.😊
I agree with you on the crappy design of the needle area where they don’t make this easy to operate as designed!! I also think Singer needs to take a survey from their machine owners in what we Do and Don’t like on these designs. I won’t purchase another Singer and I have 3 right now. My favorite is the Old Singer 401A .😮
Hi. I have a Futura 400, and my parents just got a 550. I tried to show them how to set it up for embroidery. It would birdies every single time. The top thread also broke over and over. I saw one of your videos to take the machine cover off and make sure the thread goes inside the tension bar. But can you tell me/do a video on setting the tension on this machine. I just change it willy-nilly until mine sews/embroiders good
this machine gave me no end of grief. Are you having any upper tension issues with this? I did and it sits unused in my basement. I know those superficial suggestions drove me crazy too.
Hello Christopher, I would like to mention that my mom in the 60's had the bobbin case that was removed by popping. I don't know why in the xl-550 is not the same :-)
I'm having issues with bobbin case getting the thread to pull up though the hole, the position of the cutter right in front of the bobbin case, where is that supposed to be positioned ? It's not pulling the bobbin thread up through and when I ran it at first it pulled the fabrics aND the stabilizer and bunched and tore it all up.. .I had to take the cover off to get the bunched up threads out, and noticed that cutter was right in front of the feed dogs and behind the bobbin casing.
I am using invisible thread in the bobbin and I was told to wind the bobbin very very slow with this thread. This machine has an automatic bobbin winder that only goes one speed. You don't control it with the foot pedal. I wound the bobbin manually starting and stopping the winder so it would wind slow. I stopped when the bobbin was half full. Now the bobbin won't come off the winder. Does the winder have to work automatically and fill the bobbin all the way in order to release the bobbin?
The reason the pigtail is where it is, is because it’s at the perfect position for the automatic threader to be angled correctly in order to thread itself.
Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately my Bobbin case still bounces out and my machine is still so noisy. I cannot find the right Position of that metal clip (Or whatever it's called in english). Depending on what the position of that metal thing is, the sewing machine Works better or not . When trying to fix this I accidently adjusted the bobbin thread the wrong way (its not perfect anymore as I do not know the right Position of it anymore. I know there is so many advices on How to find out the right tension on RUclips, but i Need the technical advices: the right Position of the metal 'clip' , the right Position of the bobbin case, the right Position of the bobbin thread. (The screw).....Do you have a Chance to ask someone? In Germany you Can only send the machine to a mecanics get it fixed, but there's no way to ask questions. Maybe you Stay in contact with Singer technician. I cannot sew for Weeks now. Thank you so much for your RUclips videos they help a lot. Greetings from Germany
Hi Vanessa open the needle throat plate the melat part that Christopher opened ..right underneath the button to open the bobbin case. you should see a can opener looking metal part you need to bend that towards the plate by 2 to 3 mm which would be quite stiff and might require some effort.. since that part is quite springy..but after a couple of presses towards the plate it should have enough gap for the thread to circle the bobbin without rattling or jumping.
I wonder if these machines were made by Juki. I have a TOL Juki and it has a similar plate...and I don't think it's as quiet as it should be either when i sew at higher speeds...I will try your hint. I hate those !@#$% screws!
Now this is an example of someone not watching and listening to the whole video before commenting. If you were in my classroom you would not pass this test. Watch the whole video and turn up the volume. Stop skipping around if you want your answer. This video was done for your benefit not mine. I was not paid by Singer to do this. You are welcome. xo

Having the same problem with my brother se625. Gonna try this when i get home from work. I think this might work for it too. Fingers crossed!

Hi there - it worked…no more clicking. 😊

Wow! Awesome that you got it sorted. There is definitely a big difference.
You saved my life. Thank you so much for this video!!!!

I keep having a message on my machine saying that their is thread entanglement? Any solutions?
Is there a fix for when the bobbin moves around and it stops sewing?
My machine breaks thread so bad all the time I ordered a new thread plate I'm going to try the q tip maybe that will help

Remi Dcosta Thank you very much for answering. I will give it a try. (Can opener something....-:)

Mine always cut the threads 😢 I can’t even do higher speed
Should have recorded how it sounded at first

I was told that it was a known problem, please help.......
