My machine broke and I was literally in tears. I was in the middle of finishing a little field day outfit for my daughter and my bobbin casing kept bouncing and I didn't know what was wrong. Your tip of paying attention to the spring? FIXED my machine. I can't thank you enough. I was so sad...not anymore :) Thank you so much for your time that you took and your knowledge in making this. Oh thank you so much !!!!!
Very intuitive. I had issues with my xl550 with the bobbin case, I finally took it to an old time sewing machine repairman. He took me thru the same things that you are showing. I think these machines when shipped get jostled around and get out of alignment, and cause a lot of undue frustration. I had issues with thread catching around the bobbin case, as the nub and spring were to close together not allowing my thread to pass freely while sewing causing snags and pulling my bobbin case up out of the shuttle. Major major frustrations. he adjusted my spring and bobbin case and a few other minor adjustments and showed me what to keep an eye on. Checking for small burs on the bobbin case and simply using a file to just take that off, ( don't over file)has made a very frustrating start, turn into a great creative machine. Thanks John, happy sewing.
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial on bobbin case seating! I have viewed so many pictures and still could not ' get it '. This is going to save me so much time and aggravation! Happy Sewing!
My bobbin case will still pop up out of place. I can hear "spinning" and then my top thread gets tangled and I have to untangle it:-( This has been an ongoing issue with my XL400 even after 2 services:( I'm throwing my hands up. I've tried EVERYTHING, and if the repair shop can't fix it.....who can? LOL Great video, it was very insightful and helpful.
LRM Last , are you using Singer needles? and are you using the 15J bobbins that you fill yourself? The Prewound bobbins that others sell and claim that they are 15J's but they are not! the 15J's are slightly dome. I've e-mailed the companies that claim there prewounds are 15J's and asked them if they are slightly domed like the 15J's that come with the machine and they responded saying that they are not domed. using other needles and bobbins that aren't Singer can cause timing issues, nesting and other issues and when you have nesting cause by the wrong needle or bobbin it will cause enough pull on the case to pop it out or spin it.
I have been having serious issues with my bobbin case right from the beginning... I have watched this video several times and just notice 2 things..1 my bobbin notch doesn't touch the spring and the spring seems that it is pushed back towards me. 2 my notch on the bobbin looks like it has a raw edge, not finished and smooth like the rest of the finish, what can I do? Singer seems to ignore me,

If it keeps spinning it will cause the edge to be ruff. it's best to buy a new case.
I purchase a new bobbin case for a spare. I think I ordered or received the wrong one. I have a xl400 and the bobbin case case has the red felt stuff on it. Is this the wrong one for my machine?
