  • Hey guys! We had a comment in the most recent video regarding using google docs in the new safari app with iPadOS. They wanted to know how well it worked and if it really is a desktop class experience. In my opinion, it works really well. I highly recommend giving it a try!

    I think I have sorted out the problem I was experiencing with Google docs as per my previous comment. I did have all the google apps downloaded on my iPad Pro when I was trying to follow your video. However, after delete IG all the Google apps and trying again in Safari then it works properly in desktop mode as you demonstrated. Thanks for your guidance.

    *De-crippling IOS browsers in IpadOS (Chrome/Safari)*
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Thank you dear Fernando for helping to research and articulate the wish of all true IPad lovers to make IOS a really full fledged usable device.
    From your video I still guess, Safari is a crippled (albeit a less crippled) software, since *contrary to the OSX desktop versions we appearantly can't access the menu for google scripting within a spreadsheet* (and editing it). Or did we miss something?
    Anyhow it is a great step of Apple into the right direction
    - away from their earlier restrictive policy now to a more liberal one
    - showing appreciation for the helpful contributions of Google, done to the community of productive people.
    So it can become a win win situation for all parties involved.

    • @ZachAgape
      @ZachAgape 4 года назад

      In my experience, on an iPad Pro 11 inch, both in iPadOS 13 and iPadOS 14 Beta 2, the google docs app works fine, but you can't do split screen with it. The Safari web google docs has pretty much all of the MacOS desktop functionalities, and it works okay, but there are a few issues.
      1- if you have two google docs opened side by side in Safari, you cannot reliably switch from writing in one to writing in the other… if you do manage, you will be able to copy and paste like you asked. But it is unreliable.
      2- google docs doesn't handle the shortcut for accents well (e.g. é, à, ù, ï, etc), which we use a lot in languages such as French, Spanish, etc.
      The solution to problem 1- might be to keep the google docs app, and use side by side the google docs app and a Safari web google docs. But in that case, when you open a document in the Safari web version, you will have to press command while you open it, otherwise it will open in the app.

How is the Microsoft office on the iPad with the new OS?I’m between the iPad Pro 12.9 and a MacBook Air for college and for work. My main concern is being able to use word, PowerPoint, excel, etc for school and work. I would really love the iPad to be sufficient to get the job done with is convenient portability instead of a traditional laptop.

      Hey Sam, I know I'm replying 8 months afterwards, but I'm currently testing using my iPad Pro 11 inch alone (without computer or phone) for a week (and 12.9 inch would be even more pleasant than 11 inch, of course!).
      I don't use the Microsoft office suit, so I can't really tell with that. If you want me to, I can test it though.
      However, I do test the google suit. And this has decent, though simplistic, apps. But since iPadOS 13 last year, you can also use them in Safari. And this brings you closer to the desktop version and works pretty well.
      There are still some issues however, notably:
      Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have other questions.

    You can’t scroll with the trackpad on Google Sheet with Safari, kind of a deal breaker. I kind of regret buying an iPad only for using it as a laptop.

    Hey, do you know if safari has the hover effect, like a normal PC browser allows? Like when you mouse over a menu tab and the contents of the menu appears underneath.

    • @fernandosilva
      @fernandosilva  5 лет назад +2

      I am 99% sure that doesn't work. I'll double check for you. But I remember on RUclips studio there's some part that you have to hover over to get a description of what that statistic means and you have to actually click on it on the iPad.

      1- if you have two google docs opened side by side in Safari, you cannot reliably switch from writing in one to writing in the other.

  • @lifeoftedd1737
    @lifeoftedd1737 3 года назад

    Do you have the docs app installed? Safari (even with iOS 15) automatically jumps to the mobile app that I cannot use in most cases. I wanna edit two google docs at the same time, and whe I tap a doc, it opens up the docs app and I cannot use two docs at once.

    WHEN USING A WORKBOOK WITH A PIVOT TABLE IN GOOGLE SHEETS….. YOU CAN DOUBLE CLICK A CELL ON THE PIVOT TO SEE THE DETAIL FOR JUST THAT ONE CELL. GOOGLE CREATES A DETAIL TAB. THEN YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THAT DETAIL TAB AS A CSV….. HOW DO YOU DO THIS ON THE IPAD?

    A very important issue: Gotta delete ALL apps that are google drive related on your ipad including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets etc. Or else these apps will just pop up and bring you back to mobile view even when you browse on Safari.

    • @ZachAgape

      Yes, this is very annoying. But Daniel Komorowski said in the comments that you can press 'command' at the same time as you open a doc through safari, and it will open it in safari! And I tested it, and it works so far with me.

    • @fernandosilva
      @fernandosilva  5 лет назад +2

      If by main device you mean to replace a laptop, then I would say yes it’s a little small. As a secondary device it’s great! But also depends on need. Thanks for watching!

    • @ZachAgape
      @ZachAgape 4 года назад +1

      I agree with Fernando. I'm currently testing 1 week using only my 11 inch iPad Pro (so not using my laptop at all), and it's livable. But I could not imagine doing everything just on an iPad Mini, it's too small. An iPad Pro 11 inch will work, but even there when in split screen, it can be a bit small. If you have the money and your iPad Pro will be your primary device (ie you have no computer), I would get the 12.9 inch.
