I think the 3 most underappreciated positions in sports is offensive linemen, hockey goalies and soccer goalies. Those positions require you to be consistent every game, yet you are remembered for the one that got away (giving up a sack, or giving up an untimely goal).
When I played o line in high school my dad watched only me every play and one time I messed up admittedly and gave up a sack but the rest of the game I had been driving guys back 10-15 yards and my dad took notice. So after I messed up the o line coach took me out and told me I was sitting the rest of the game and my dad came down from the stands and ripped him a new one. He did overreact a bit but Joe is so spot on, they only remember you for the bad plays on the o line
Pass blocking and run blocking are different. Maybe you could pile drive these guys backwards but the coach wanted pass protection more. This isn't directed towards you, but if a parent tried to interupt my coaching style, that parent wouldnt be allowed to games and the kid would ride the bench until the season ended.
The only people that give o line props are the coaches and teamates, and some fans who actually know football and they know that blocking is important. In my opinion, if my coach and my qb and rb apreciates me, that is good enough.
He nailed that last portion especially for me.. a DE can get dominated the whole game and the pop up with a sack at the end and all of a sudden he played a good game lol
You dont know what he is talking about if you never played Guard center or tackle. I almost fought my rb because he blamed the whole o line for him getting tackled for a loss and I spoke up and told him stop dancing and hit the hole. And O lineman win most of the battles
C S ehh pass breakups are taken note of a lot highly than good blocks, like that Richard Sherman deflection against San Fran that lead to a pick and the game was heard widely, but no one really remembers a good block
Reminds me of car parts. They work everyday for hundreds or thousands of miles. In different temperatures and speeds. But when and if it fails. It ruins everything.
@@douglaskelly5505 you are exactly right. It takes a certain love and a certain amount of "nastiness" to play offensive line. Lineman are there own breed.
The hog lot at my high school practice field is still my sacred ground. Slopes down hill and has a sand pit in the corner of it but it's still the best corner of the field
Offensive lineman sense third grade now I’m about to go into high school and I can say lineman never get praised for making perfect blocks only to get yelled at when they fuck up one time I always enjoy hearing a coach punish a skills player by making them do lineman drills or talking about how it’s not easy being a lineman it sucks your in a deep dark place the moment you become your one but I would never trade being a lineman for any other place on the team if you play o line know you have the hardest job on the field anyone that gives you shit tell them to try being a lineman
I agree I play for a semi-pro football team and to let a QB down is the worst feeling you can get to be blamed by others and your team .. I'm saying to the people play offense of line keep your head up and work hard
I think any engaged fan knows the importance of an OL, and tackles get paid nicely. The guards and centers at one step down, but I think the center calls the blocking schemes and is as important as the LT. If you can't block you are going nowhere. Good OL, good QB, and you can be successful with average skill players. WR are the most overrated IMO.
Nobody scores without lineman. But nobody cares. It’s mildly infuriating, but it’s something you have get used to with being a lineman. It kinda sucks, but it is what it is.
I watched this and went to practice the next day and thought well shit they just stuck in in the corner of the field with the dirt and dead grass and we did sleds and hit each other the whole time and obviously we practiced plays

Henry Anderson I love you so much an wanna be there with you so gab an gave you the biggest hug an the longest kiss an looking in those pretty eyes in tell you I love you so sweet with mins heart
Everything he said about being an olineman is 100% true.
bigmixx - Oh really, thanks! We were all skeptical about this guy. We trust your opinion way more than his!
bigmixx
most important position group
As a former lineman myself i can honestly say he's telling the truth!
bigmixx me being a guy that has played offensive lineman for 3 years,he is so correct all we got as lineman was complete shittalk
No shit fuck face
i find it hard to believe that joe can walk through the grocery store in cleveland without people noticing him. we fucking love joe
He lives in Wisconsin a mile from my grandfather house
I'm right guard and the only people who really gave the offensive line props was our own teammates and that was all we really needed
kishin Power if that, we get blamed where I am
I think the 3 most underappreciated positions in sports is offensive linemen, hockey goalies and soccer goalies. Those positions require you to be consistent every game, yet you are remembered for the one that got away (giving up a sack, or giving up an untimely goal).
HISHAM931 hockey goalies are treated like gods so yeah no
Soccer goalies are also gods to us. They are the game savers and we love them
HISHAM931 Im a soccer goalie and everyone blames you if it goes in but it turns out the deffense sucks
Keepers in general are treated great, hockey goalies are kings in a team if they are skilled.
Centre half in soccer probably get more grief than goalies

Daddys boy
Donald Wilson dads are awesome man
Come on. That's nice. His dads in his corner.
Pass blocking and run blocking are different. Maybe you could pile drive these guys backwards but the coach wanted pass protection more. fucc that coach
That's the absolute truth!
Very true but at the same time, it's fun playing the position.
True. Every snap you get action and fun. The most boring positions are CB, Safeties and specially Recievers lmao
Everything he has just said was so so true
Graham always has the best interviews. Hands down.
As a youth Center i can agree with this
Alexander t CTE monger
OLinemen win championships
Dream Maker Beats patriots
He's absolutely right. I played offensive line for 11 years and nobody ever gave a fuck about us.
The only people that give o line props are the coaches and teamates, and some fans who actually know football and they know that blocking is important. In my opinion, if my coach and my qb and rb apreciates me, that is good enough.

Honestly, I want to hug Joe Thomas so badly.
You dont know what he is talking about if you never played Guard center or tackle. I almost fought my rb because he blamed the whole o line for him getting tackled for a loss and I spoke up and told him stop dancing and hit the hole. And O lineman win most of the battles
Wow -- this is so true. Thanks for articulating it so well, and also accepting that as the fate of an O-lineman. Thankless job, but they do it well.
Whoever first called linemen mushrooms is fucking hilarious
Too bad the Browns can't find a qb and waste Joe's talent un freaking real.
Neil Smith Kizer
Dream Maker Beats hopefully
Dream Maker Beats browns would rather have 2 young qbs share snaps when one is clearly better than the other. Their decision making has been awful
Neil Smith well he is hurt now.....
Neil Smith it’s not a waste because he’s still doing his job
It's almost the same at corner. If you give up one long TD it doesn't really matter that you swatted every other ball that came your way
There is a difference, but thats an alright comparison
No it’s not
Corners do get recognized
Think of primetime
C S ehh pass breakups are taken note of a lot highly than good blocks, like that Richard Sherman deflection against San Fran that lead to a pick and the game was heard widely, but no one really remembers a good block
There should be a stat that measures sacks allowed and % of plays defended by that player. Kind of like the save percentage in hockey.
Much respect to Joe Thomas a very humble Man which more athletes conducted themselves This Way
Reminds me of car parts. They work everyday for hundreds or thousands of miles. In different temperatures and speeds. But when and if it fails. It ruins everything.
How is he saying all this with a smile on his face?
Cause he knows he's going to Canton some day
@@douglaskelly5505 you are exactly right. It takes a certain love and a certain amount of "nastiness" to play offensive line. Lineman are there own breed.
Because he's one of the greatest at his position
Joe Thomas one of the Great Offensive Lineman to Play the Game!!!
Just Sayin
In one of my game, the Qb didn’t even got sacked one time and we won by 31 points but nobody said we did a good job
I'm a lineman I know how this feels😂😂😂
I-Line is the most important to the offense imo. There are no runs or passes thrown without them
I feel sorry for bagging on the o line all the time
O lineman run the offense. They do soo much and deserve more credit forsure. I watch the O line the most while I watch football games on tv.
no love for linemen
this is so facts
I love Joe Thomas and I’m a Steelers fan.😊
This dude interviewing Joe needs to go back and be in an 80's porn movie.....

Such a legend
Left tackle all day
I agree I play for a semi-pro football team and to let a QB down is the worst feeling you can get to be blamed by others and your team .. I'm saying to the people play offense of line keep your head up and work hard
I love this guy..
When we do Good they say nothing but when we do bad they are mad
He's so accurate
They're the IT or maintenance guys of the business. They only get attention when something goes wrong.
Well said, and a great food for thought.
Offensive linemen don’t really want all the fame and extra shit that everyone else gets. We have each other and that’s all we need
I hate when people don’t care about offensive lineman
the o-line definitely plays the most crucial role in football but hey thats just my opinon

I’m an o’linemen

Joe Thomas Andrew whitworth joe Stanley and Trent Williams super underrated players
He's huge
Same thing with tech support.
Some team should make a play where all OL are receivers and all backs are linemen as a few trick plays
Best Football Player of the last 10 years!
It's sad because it FACTS
I watched this and went to practice the next day and thought well shit they just stuck in in the corner of the field with the dirt and dead grass and we did sleds and hit each other the whole time and obviously we practiced plays
This is a Pro Football Hall of Famer if I’ve ever seen one
I was a right guard we got blamed for everything, now that I think about it that team fucking sucked with leadership
I like his attempts to be charismatic more than people who are actually charismatic

Elias wtf is ambiguity
Elias I think he is just being short and literal? Seem okay to me.
I play left tackle like Joe
So trew
Well.. they ain't getting paid like mushrooms.. save that for the RBs I guess 🤷🏽♂️
...feed 'em shit and keep them in the dark. You ladies have a good day.
That dudes hair tf lol
Well playing for Cleveland doesn’t count
Fucken so true atleast they get paid good money
Lol if you're a guard
He'd be a Drew Brees
If you dont have a oline you dont get anywhere
They're delicious lightly sautéed in oil?
Oh...
Do you know what this guys been paid though?
Ogres are like Onions
Browns has the WORST OL in the NFL. Joe Thomas has Mushrooms for brains.
king johnny why do you comment stuff like this every video? He's one of the best of all time
king johnny Wtf the Browns OL is pretty decent, it’s the skilled positions that suck
Man fuck your dumbass
Henry Anderson I love you so much an wanna be there with you so gab an gave you the biggest hug an the longest kiss an looking in those pretty eyes in tell you I love you so sweet with mins heart
