- This is a more detailed video than my last one on "How to gel stain your kitchen cabinets". Sorry that it's so long but I wanted to make sure I covered as much as possible, but I'm sure I missed a few things. The gel stain is made by (General finishes) and the color is called (Java) which is a dark espresso or dark chocolate color.

Java gel stain: amzn.to/2K3vIeB
Minwax satin polyurethane: amzn.to/2LCnXfU
Between Coats Finishing Pads: amzn.to/2SoETYS
Purdy XL brushes: amzn.to/32zNqgp
Trisodium Phosphate All-Purpose Cleaner: amzn.to/2O976mq
Items you will need:
TSP Trisodium Phosphate for cleaning the cabinets.
3m stripping pads (medium coarseness)
Purdy XL nylon/Polyester brush, I used a 2.0 to 2.5-inch brush.
Painters pyramids or hard foam pads are helpful in holding up the doors off the table while staining.
Gel stain, I bought two 1 quart cans and used 1-1/2 quart.
Synthetic steel wool #000 or finish scuffing pads for "lightly" scuffing in between coats.
Minwax fast-drying Polyurethane Satin finish about 2 quarts.
Painters towels or a good lint-free rag for applying the polyurethane.
Mineral spirits or paint thinner for cleaning the brushes and anything else you did not intend to stain.
Direction on how I did it.
1: Clean cabinets with TSP as I explained in the video.
2: use a medium stripping pad to scuff up the cabinets and then clean the dust off.
3: Mix gel stain well with a paint stir stick and apply gel stain in thin coats so you don't get brush lines with the Purdy XL brush, at least two thin coats.
4: Lightly scuff between gel stain coats and before poly coat with synthetic #000 steel wool or finish scuffing pads, careful not to scuff gel stain off the edges, then clean any dust off. Let gel stain dry 24hrs between coats.
5: Apply Minwax fast-drying "satin finish" poly with a lint-free rag or towel at least two coats.
6: Lightly scuff in between poly coats except for the last coat of course. Let poly dry for at least 4 hours before scuffing with synthetic steel wool.
If you do get a few air bubbles in the poly when you're applying it, just blow quick bursts of air on the bubbles and they'll go away.
I recently used Java Gel Stain for both vanities and my kitchen cabinets. I am really happy with the results. I have painted my vanities in the past but am loving the richness of the stain. Looks even better in person compared to these videos or pictures. I also used the Brown Mahogany gel stain on some benches; love that rich brown color as well.
Here are my thoughts or recommendations:
1. I used the paint on method. Don't worry about perfection on the first coat. Just get the stain on. The second coat covers amazingly easier than the first.
2. Don't overwork the stain. Get it on, smooth it out and leave it alone.
3. Even with a foam brush don't have a heavy hand. Learn to feather out the stain. I stared on the back side of the cabinet doors and perfected my technique.
4. Stain in well lit area. I did it with plenty of natural light and lighting but still found some spots I would have liked to touch up when I was hanging the doors. No one will really notice unless they carefully inspect each door.
5. Don't worry about blotchy stain. You may have some areas that appear shinier than others. The topcoat will even everything out.
6. Don't rush it. Let the stain completely dry between coats. I went with the High Performance Satin water based topcoat. Dried in a matter of hours.
Good luck. Don't be intimidated. It's not a quick project but you can do it if you never have before.
👍
I see some people wipe off the stain, and some people don’t. Is it okay if you don’t wipe it off between coats?
Thanks
@@heatherm6913 it all depends on if you want a dark finish or a light finish.
how long did it take you in total?
I have zero experience staining anything and was able to complete this project in about 4 days with confidence thanks to you! Saved me a lot of money and my kitchen is so much more my style now. Thank you!
Awesome 👍
After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans ruclips.net/user/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!
I can't thank you enough for both of your kitchen cabinet staining videos!!! I know this video is older but it remains the ONLY informative and accurate video on this topic. I have $200 worth of different stains and countless samples boards using every technique on RUclips and not one gave me the professional result I was looking for...until I found yours!!! I watched both videos, ran to the store and grabbed the gel stain and supplies you suggested. When I got home (full of doubt) set off doing a test board. two hours later and not even fully dry yet, the sample already looks exactly like I want it!! Thank you again for taking the time to do this!!!
Awesome 👍
NO apology needed for the length of your video. Great details! Really was reassuring that we can do this! Your details helped us avoid simple mistakes.
+Marilee Donivan Great, I'm glad this video helped you out.
Marilee Donivan I am also happy he took the time and did an excellent demo. I am about to do our cabinets and this was extremely helpful and I feel less intimidated.
Editing could have gotten the same information across in 5 min or less.. Just saying..
I love the length of the video filmed over several days. It puts in perspective the amount of time and detail that goes into gel stain. The cabinets look beautiful. I love the detail of materials to purchase you taught the viewers. Thanks
Thank you 🙂
@@petebeasttexashomesteading what is the name of the machine also Can I clean without that machine?
This one of the best "how to videos" I have ever see. It has given me the confidence to tackle this project in my own home.
+Tim Kelsey Great, I'm glad this video helped you out.
Just saved me $3000 and inspired me to redo old cabinets instead of buying new ones. Thanks dude very detailed video. If it was any shorter most people might've f***ed up their cabinets :)
Avak Astajyan Thank you 👍
Me too. I just bought a fixer upper.
Can this be done on plywood?
Pete, I finished doing my cabinets and they're beautiful! Thank you so much for your help! My husband and I could have not done it without your detailed video tutorial. We save a lot of money for doing it ourselves. All the best to you!
+narcisa candelaria I'm so glad this video helped you out and saved you a lot of money. That was my whole intention to help people out. Thank you for sharing.
I watched both of your videos about gel staining the cabinets with general finishes Java gel stain... and I wanted to say "thank you!". I used everything you did n followed your instructions on my old 90's cabinet... my cabinet came out fabulous! I'm so happy with the results. Now I'll move on to another bathrooms cabinet. I wish I could show you my before and after. you'd be proud. Thanks again...Eva
That's awesome 👍
This kitchen looks just like mine. Thank you so much for this video! Been wanting to do this for 3 years but didn't quite know how to sand the non-wood parts. Thank you thank you!
I spent 45 minutes saying this video was too long. It absolutely wasn’t. Great video and information. I’m ready to start my cabinets. Thank you
Thank you 👍
Looks great! This video was a big help! My wife and I just bought a new home and this is going to be our first project!
Thanks, This will dramatically change the look of the kitchen. You might also like my bathroom mirror framing video. ruclips.net/video/y3CDu6IVxrw/видео.html
Exquisite attention to detail, knowledge of the finer points (eg use a rag, not a brush,) no cutting corners -- and the result: refinished cabinets that look better than when they were new! You both have a great skill and patience! Thank you so much for sharing this, it gave me a great appreciation for the exhausting work it takes to make cabinets look that good! andie
+andie f Thank you so much.
That looks really good. Wood always reflects the care put in.
Thank you
I used this exact video tutorial last year to teach myself how to stain my kitchen cabinets with the java gel stain. They came out great and still look great a year later. I'm getting ready to stain some other furniture now and am totally confidant after doing so well in the kitchen. Thank you Pete for such a detailed video. I highly recommend this video to anyone considering this. If I can do it - anyone can.
Thank you so much........I really appreciate it.
Fantastic step by step tutorial !!! You made it easy from the start
Thank you
Hi Pete,
I just finished stain & poly my entire bedroom floor!! I don't see much video on using the gel stain on the floor. I was so sick of my dingy gross carpet that I pulled it up during the Christmas holiday. I live in a 100 year house and the hardwood underneath was full of water damage. The expense of hiring someone to refinish it was not an issue, I just didn't want to go through the hassle since I have pets. I just needed a quick fix. Then I discover get stain. I feel like this is the answer for me and I wasn't disappointed. I can still see the water damaged area after get stain, but it was almost gone after I apply the polyurethane. It came out much much better that I expected. Thanks Pete, for giving me to confident to tackle this.
Wow that's awesome, I hope you put at least two coats of poly or more is better for the floor. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this video.
I will start this weekend to transform my kitchen.
Let's see what happen. Thanks !
sergio saravia Don't worry, It will come out great.
Love the transformation....lots of work but still a lot cheaper than buying new cabinets. Your video is really well done.
Thank you
I love this idea. I'm getting ready to redo my cabinets today. Thank you for the information. ! ☺
+Nicole McCullough You're welcome.
Thank you so much for this video. We just purchased a home and I am redoing honey oak cabinets in black gel stain from General Finishes. I have referred to your video multiple times to make sure I am doing it "right." Thank you again! Its a tedious process but so far, I am loving the results!
+Matthew Peltier Great! I'm glad this video helped you out.
I’d love to try the “black” gel stain on my honey oak cabinets, also! Wondering how your’s turned out? I can’t decide between the gel or the regular stain, since I don’t want them to look painted black, but rather hoping they look stained. This Java color he used really looks black, so I’m curious if General Finishes “black gel” is going to look like paint. 😬
Nice job !! I'm going to try Java gel stain on my cabinets .
Pete, on behalf of all of us..learners, I salute you and thank you for your dedication time to make these videos. I enjoyed listening to the details of your project. This episode in particular is just what I needed. Thanks again sir. You and your wife are both pros:)
We'll done!
Thank you so much :)
This is a great video!!! Love the detail of explanation. Just got new counter tops and thinking of changing the color of the cabinets. Well done!!!
+Trell of all Trades Thank you so much.
This is exactly everything I wanted to know from beginning to end and in between of staining cabinets. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for this tutorial!!! I'm really excited and I really want to try this.
shaesofierce Glad you liked the video, you should have no problems.
My wife and I will be undertaking this task soon as we just closed on our new house. I'm confident we can do it now thanks to your very informative video! Your cabinets came out awesome!
Thank you, Just make sure to apply the gel stain in thinner coats rather then heavy thick coats.
I actually did my cabinets using the Java Gel stain. I used foam brushes and the results are amazing..!! Everyone that comes to my house loves my cabinets and has no idea I did them myself..The Gel stain is the consistency of pudding and a little goes a long way, just let it dry over night before applying another coat. This is time consuming but well worth it.
Awesome, glad to here your cabinets came out great.
Foam brushes suck said every professional painter
I've wanted to update our 1980's oak cabinets, but didn't know where to begin. This video has inspired me, and now I think I can not only do the job, but make it look professionally done!! Super job, and thank you so much. I will be watching your video many times so as not to miss any steps. Take care -Stacy
Stacy Falcone Awesome, I'm glad the video helped you out.
It looks amazing!! I've been wanting to do this to my kitchen and after seeing your video it definitely gave me the motivation I needed.
Erika Vazquez Thank you
Awesome, I'm glad the video helped you out.
You saved me from the stress of time that I don't have...I was under the impression that I had to do the several wipe methods...❤you really gave me a woosah moment🙏🏿
Excellent! 👍
Awesome job! So excited to find this, and can't wait to start.
Hope it turns out as great as urs did!
Leslie Seibel Don't worry, your cabinets will come out great.
I’m only doing this on a dining room table top which is a lot simpler, but this taught me how to gel stain properly! Extremely helpful!
Thank you so much! and again, excellent video, Cheers.
Exodus from Dallas, a new kitchen for our self renovated country home is to the point of cabinets. We can afford the unfinished cabinets and look at these video's for confidence and how to do the stain etc. We have a few cabinets to install in the laundry room that will give us good practice and what to expect. THANKS for your video.
This was a great video thank you
I have sections of my kitchen that is pressed board unless I missed it.... Will this stick to that type of surface as well??
Yes.
Great tips on sanding between coats, sealing the poly around the hinges, then hanging to add the poly coats so that you don't smudge or mar to dry. Getting ready to re-do my kitchen cabinets & I am definitely going to use these techniques! Thanks!
Great, I'm glad this video helped you out.
Yes, next time I'll be doing the same thing😊
what a great detailed video....thank you so much
+Softlywinged You're very welcome.
Thank you for the thorough video! Tip for anyone with older cabinets... The associate at Lowe's said over time the wood changes and shifts. He suggested labeling anything being removed or organize your work space in a manner that allows all the doors/drawers to go back in their original position so they line up correctly.
+Mariko L Your welcome, and yes it's a good idea to put all drawers and doors back to there original place. Good tip thanks.
great job.
Natalia Oliva Thank you
Watching this 7 years after it’s posted, and can't wait to use your technique. However, I think I'll poly the doors prior to remounting to prevent accidental sticking. 👍🏽
I did my bathroom cabinets, following your lead. I live in a super dry climate, and it took like 3 days for the stain to dry. Even then, some of it lifted off with light scuffing and polying. I love that the gel stain levels out and a lot of the grain shines through.
Amazing job..the cabinets look so beautiful..I’m planing to Java Gel a tall cabinet with the same type of wood..with what u taught me.. I now won’t b afraid to do the job..the cabinet had been waiting for this paint job 4over a year..Thank u 4taking the time to share with us on how u stained ur kitchen cabinets 🥰
Awesome 👍 just remember when you're ready to apply the gel stain to stir it well before applying.
Ok my husband and I going to try this to our cabinets til we get enough money to purchase new ones. Thank you. The cabinets look amazing!!
Came across this video while experimenting with this stain over previously stained wood. I watched several videos and have several test pieces in progress. I’m just pointing out that this process was my least favorite. Firstly, the stain if used like a paint is definitely not self leveling. I used a foam brush, applied, didn’t work it excessively just smoothed out and left it. The next day looked horrible. Tried several test spots with multiple coats, tried sanding out the brush marks then reapplying properly (not like paint in other words) and that looked ok. My best results so far have been to use the stain as instructed - apply evenly then gently remove. I was very surprised at how “level” the finish was. I built up three coats like this (yes very time consuming) and it was nearly as dark as one “paint style” coat but without the buildup, if that makes sense. I just applied a fourth coat as instructed and it looks great. I still prefer the full solid color like achieved in this video….!
Very informative video. I learned so much which is great since I was about to pay someone $2500 to do my cabinets. Now I know I can do them myself. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Awesome, I'm glade the video helped you out and saved you a ton of money.
Very Nice Video. Very Thorough.... The sanding with pad between coats really is a good idea... You were very humble at the end of video. Those cabinets turned out excellent...
Steve Noonan Thank you so much.
Love the palm sander just resting on a pad to scuff the finish! Best idea I have seen today.
Thank you 😀
This video inspired my wife and I to tackle our kitchens cabinets. Things are turning out great. one thing to note is that we could not find that brand of gel stain at Lowe's. But Rockler had it. Thanks for the great video.
+Kevin Stripling Great I'm glade the video helped you out. You can also order it online at www.woodcraft.com/search2/search.aspx?query=java%20gel%20stain
The tip about hanging the caninet before applying polyurethane was crucial. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Very clear and informative. Doing a reno and will be considering gel staining cabinets instead of replacing. Thanks for sharing
+Fiction Frenzy You're welcome.
Thank you for sharing the process in detail... I have done that to our kitchen cabinets before we moved in.. beautiful result in the end BUT *oh my God, did it take such a long time*.... Each coat of gel stain dried in more than 24 hours (once or twice it took TWO hole days)... So, front and back each with two-three coats ==> *14 days*... I got to say I lost patience, but in the end the result was beautiful
Glad it was helpful! Yeah the drying time will really depend on the temperature and humidity.
Awesome Video. My wife has been nagging me about redoing our kitchen. I have hesitated because it seemed like a lot more to do. Your video was perfect, with great detail. It turned out awesome. Thank You
Awesome, I'm glade the video helped you out.
This was amazingly informative and detailed! I really enjoyed watching this video and I tend to fast forward on tutorials but I knew I needed to watch every minute of it as I’ve been on the fence of doing this or just investing in new cabinets. But now I know we can put that off for a while and gain an updated look on our kitchen with the help of your video and items used!
Glad it was helpful!
Appreciated this so much! Never would’ve thought to use a rag instead
Thanks, you've given me the confidence to refinish my cabinets. I'll save a bundle over replacing or refacing!
Yes you will definitely save a ton of money.
Okay, after all the other sites, with the apply and wipe suggestions, I found yours to make more sense if you REALLY want to cover the old finish like my OLD busy oak cabinets. The first coat was scary but I am waiting overnight and the second coat should help me settle down.
Don't worry it will come out great. just apply the gel stain in thinner coats rather than thick. Thanks for watching.
Im so thankful for this how to video. Im super excited to get started on my cabinets. Your a great teacher. Bless you
+Leslie Cooper-Holland Thank you and God bless you.
wow....what a great job......I have been toying with the idea of painting our cabinets back but have been very intimidated.....you've inspired me !!
Great, thank you
I love that you took the time to show/explain all the little details, you've been a great help to me!!!!! Thanks
+blys2pay Thank you and you're welcome
Excellent video; clear instructions with lots of tips, and attention to details. Thank you very much
Astera Aberhamo Tesfay Thank you very much.
Looks great, and the doors being attached before clearing was an excellent idea!
+Bradd VanCleve Thank you.
Wow that was a super video. It's a long video but all of it was informative. If I tried this technique I think I would be able to avoid many beginner pitfalls because of the details (both audible and visual) you included in this video. Thanks for making it.
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
Good video. I’m also using GF Java on my cabinets and I think it’s worth mentioning a couple things. One is the rather toxic odor of the finish. I put my first coat on the face frame yesterday and it really filled the air in the house. It’s still heating season so opening windows and doors isn’t really an option. I’ve decided to wait until it’s warm enough to work in the garage to finish the doors, which is probably a couple weeks off at this point.
The other thing is drying time of this product. The face frames are still tacky the day after applying the first coat. I’ll be giving it another day before the second coat. If I had known about the issues I’ve mentioned here, I would have put this job off until the weather warms up enough to throw open the house.
This has got to be the best video on a "how to" that I have seen......awesome!!!!
Thank you
I am just gel staining a cherry wood dining room table top. I did the legs in Annie Sloan Chalk paint in white. The top to the table had a very hard poly finish on it, with scratches, so I did have to do some pretty hard sanding on it to scuff it up. I just put on my 2nd coat of java gel, which I applied with a foam brush. I hate cleaning brushes! It looks great so far and the coverage looks good. I'll do another light sand and then ready for the poly coat. So far it was easy to apply and looks great! The hardest part was the sanding! I can hardly wait for the finished product.
+Marti W That's great, just be careful to only lightly scuff the gel stain between coats and before the poly.
Thanks I am just starting that part. I did have a few bumps in the gel stain, so doing a light sand on it. It's looking very pretty.
Great video and very precise instruction. I feel comfortable to tackle my 20 year old oak cabinets and freshen them up like this! Thank you!
+Irene Morales Ward Thank you.
Thank you for your amazing video, I pinned it and am going to try this on my kitchen cabinets which as of now are the 80's gold oak. Ugh! I am ready for a change! I have done this with paint and am really good with faux finishes, but this technique is SO much easier and less prep time! YAY!
+SeaofHearts2011 Thank you, I'm glad this video helped you out.
I used a gel stain on my highly shellacked light oak stair rail 8 years ago. Custom mixed dark brown craft paint colors into clear gel stain. Slapped it on and didn't even sand it down prior. 8 years later, it looks brand new.
I am currently working on my cabinets. It is a lot of work, but I am very thankful for your very detail video. When I have a question about what to do next, I just play your video again! I should be done by Monday. I will let you know about the final product. Thank you so much!!
+Milagros Lopez Fred (Hernandez) Great I'm glad the video helped you out and yes, let me know how your cabinets came out..... Thanks
+Pete B.
Hi, my cabinets are almost done. I am working by myself so it takes a little longer. I have not had any problems so far. I have a question for you. Will I get the same results if I change the paint color? I am planning to paint my sister's cabinets, but she wants to use Cherry. Again, thank you so much! I cannot believe that I am doing this project. I am so thankful for people like you, that likes to share their knowledge with others. Many blessings for you and your family.
+Milagros Lopez Fred (Hernandez) Yes you should get the same results. But the cherry color gel stain might be a little transparent but I'm not 100% sure because I've never used cherry gel stain before. But just do the exact same process as with the java gel stain and it will come out great. Remember to clean the cabinets really good with TSP then rinse with clean sponge let dry then lightly scuff wipe dust with clean rag then mix your gel stain well and you're ready to gel stain.
+Pete B.
Thanks, I will do the same process. I will let you know how it goes with the cherry. We will work on this project next month.
Hello Pete B.!
I have a question and I hope you read this email tonight! I am doing my sister's cabinets and cannot find the 3M Between Coats Finishing pads. It seems that they have discontinued this kind. Now, they do have something new. The new one is called 3M Sandblaster Pro/Large Sanding Sponge (180 Fine)(220 Fine). Can I used these? Or what do you recommend? Thank you so much for your prompt response.
Thank you Pete. Me and my partner are doing a job like this and your video really answered a lot of my questions. Amazing job.
Kisha Martin Thank you, I glad the video helped you out.
😊
GM Pete, I have started staining my cabinets. Getting ready to put the second coat on them. I will let you know how they turned out. So excited
+Anne M Lewis Awesome!
I love this Vedio very reassuring, I've done quite a bit of furniture refinishing in my time but I've only started using "General Finishes" recently they are FAR FAR better than Minwax products...I thought at first I had lost my knack...But I think it's the product that really makes the difference...Thank YOU...
Sharon Kwiatkowski Thank you and your welcome.
Thank you for posting this helpful video. Another way to shake your brushes to dry, by the way, is to tap them on or below the ferrule on the tip of your shoe, (outside, of course). The cabinets look great!
Thank you
Very detailed , I actually watched the whole video, you were clear and kept it simple. I thank you for sharing, I am on a budget and it looks like I can afford to have my cake and eat it too, I can't wait to get started, I will do the bathroom first, then the kitchen. again thank you.
+Anne Nevius Thank you and you're welcome
Just came across your video. I started doing my cabinets and must be doing something wrong. 72 hours later and my first coat is still tacky. So I’m going to start from scratch following your video. Thankfully I only started on the drawer backs and one cabinet area. Fingers crossed!!
Make sure you mix the gel stain well by stirring gently. Also if it's too humid in the house, it will take longer to dry.
Thanks for the great Video. I first tried using Polyshades Minwax and it didn't look very good. I couldn't get the brush marks out and it didn't cover that great. Just finished with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and the kitchen looks fantastic. I did 2 coats Gel Stain and 2 coats Polyurenthane. I left the hinges on the cabinet boxes when I removed the doors so I wouldn't have to adjust them when I put the doors back on the cabinets.
John M I didn't like the polyshades either, it was like you said, it left brush lines and didn't cover good. But I'm glad to hear you redid them with general finishes java gel stain. It takes a little work and time but it's well worth it.
Awesome and detailed!! LOVE it guys! YES! You will or can surely get bubbles with a brush when applying the poly! I love the sock or rag idea. Turned out beautiful! Thanks so much for all the information.
Awesome 👍
Great info there and nice to see you are working as a team, you and your sweetie.
Areil Anderson Bacher Thank you.
Great instructions. Very clear. You've inspired a lot of people to dive in and just do this. Me too! Thank you!
Thank you, I just wanted to show that you don't have to spend a lot of money to make your cabinets look great.
Damn that turned out really nice your patience is golden I wouldve been gave up
Great video, only suggestion if any one is going to do this, use a roller, it works a lot better putting down the gel stain,...............I used a Wooster Mohair Blend Roller 4-1/2-Inch. I did use a foam brush for the corners of the shaker style cabinets I did.
Love this video!! We just bought a new home and the cabinets are horrible, I will be using this video to stain them :)
+Pamela Smith Great I'm glad this video helped you out. The kitchen is the central focal point of a home.
Looks great I am going to do mines. The process takes along time, but it's worth it. Beautiful. I think I watched your video three times to make sure I have all the details. Lol
+Anne M Lewis Thank you, and yes it is a bit time consuming but the results will last you for many years to come.
I'm so happy I came across your video on RUclips!! General Finishes needs to higher you. I've watched a lot of there videos on Gel staining kitchen cabinets and yours is so much better. There gel stain is the best out there! And your video is the best!! I am so excited about gel staining my kitchen cabinets in General Finishes brown mahogany. Thanks again for such a helpful detailed video!!
+lovemycollies Thank you I'm glad the video helped you out. Just make sure you don't apply the gel stain too thick. Two to three thin coats is all you'll need. If you apply it to think you'll leave brush marks.
+Pete B. Thank you Pete!
Thank you for such an in depth video, it helps me out a lot. The cabinets turned out beautifully!
You're so awesome Pete...you're also very informative. Your tenants are blessed to have you...you really take time and take good care of your properties. I love all of your vids...I'm definitely gonna put some of your tips to use. Keep up the good work!!!
+Kima Thomas Thank you so much, I'll be doing more videos when my rentals or my house need repairs. Thank again.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!!
Long video and worth to watch, enjoyed and learned every second of it, kuddos!!!👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🙂
Thank you for this video as I am doing my cabinets with gel stain.... I didn't know how to finish them...now I know.
+Diann Weier Awesome.
Congratulations you have done a wonderful job. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Wow! Thank you for the detailed video. I want to redo my cabinets but I was not sure what to use or how intense the job would be. I really appreciate this.
👍
Thank you, Mr. Pete for your thorough explanation and suggestions.
Thank you and your welcome
excellent.. I really needed this in depth tutorial.. thank you..I'm about to do a shit load of white cabinet drawers & doors.. I'm sure I'll b watching this vid like 50 more times :)
Thank you, Just make sure you don't apply the gel stain too thick. Better to spread it out with your Purdy XL brush as you're brushing it on. Two coats of gel stain should do it, but three is fine if needed.
Awesome video. Your explanations were very thorough, that I feel confident in finishing my cabinets. Thanks for all the tips below, from your followers. Can't wait to get started.
+Gina Kevin You're welcome
Perfection! 👍🏽 loving the new look. Thank you for sharing this informative video. The technique you've used here proves patients is what's needed to get this result. This is exactly how I'd like my cabs to look. I'm glad I found your channel.
Yes patients is needed and make sure you don't apply the gel stain on thick, thin is better and spread it out. I usually apply two coats of gel stain and two coats of the fast drying polyurethane.
Super nervous but I think I am going to take on this challenge. Thanks for the detailed tutorial.
Awesome, I feel confident that I can do this. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for sharing this.
+Kalisha Abercrombie Tucker You're welcome.
Thank you Pete for your reply and for your video tutorial, it's great! Anyway, yes I'm using the fast drying poly same as what you've used minwax. I'm only having problem at the very bottom of the cabinet just above where the trim is, it leaves few streak marks in that area. Maybe I'm not doing it right when i get to that end part. If there is no trim and just wipe on straight line, I have no problem, it's all smooth.
+narcisa candelaria I'm not sure I understand what trim at the bottom of the cabinet you're talking about. The upper cabinets on the wall normally don't have trim at the bottom, and the lower cabinets only have trim at the bottom on the floor. But if you're wiping the poly in a straight line and stop at a trim, just wipe the trim that you just hit with the rag to clean it up a bit or wipe from the trim and go in the other direction. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much. Learned a lot from this. There's no need for a trial and error, since everything is explained and demonstrated in detail. Thanks so much again! (I would've chosen a different hardware though, it ruined everything. But this is a rental nway.)
John James Thank you
