I show features of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on my 2016 Mustang GT! Both are great options with a variety of features that make the SYNC 3 system even better.

Hearing the throb of that mustang makes me appreciate that I don't have a muscle car or motorcycle (both of which I used to own). I'd be dead by now. Something about that sound that activates the testosterone!! I have both apple and android and recently purchased a car (Buick) that reads both. I now see the differences and advantages of both. I think Android Auto wins by far. I have my Pixel autolaunch it when connected to my car's Bluetooth. The screen turns on when I take it out of my pocket and slap it on my magnet mount, and works without pressing a button and voice commands never fail me (unlike Siri). Thanks for comparing
I have a '13 Ford Fusion with the MyFord Touch Sony infotainment system and it does its job adequately. But this new version of sync is a bit more user-friendly and incorporates many useful phone functions. The only two things I wish my Fusion had are a better Sync system and HIDs. But I have ways to get around those two gripes, so it's not a big deal at all. Your setup is cool, though.
I have a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost premium PP. Does it legit stop immediately after you release the button? When you mentioned it I thought it was weird as I have never had that issue.
Thanks! It's because I have the switch back turn signals. There is something that you can do to return it to normal sound, but I've gotten used to it now.
Best Apple Carplay vs Android Auto! Just a little add up thing: when you plug iphone to use apple car play, you can still use the phone at the same time but you cannot when you plug android phone to use android auto.

Just a quick question, I noticed that you have the carbon fiber wrap on the interior. How is that holding up since you out it on and is it really durable as well? No, unfortunately you're limited to Apple Maps. Waze will be coming to Android eventually, but since Google owns Waze, it's unlikely that it will ever be available on CarPlay.

Is it possible to use AndroidAuto via USB and have your iphone connected via bluetooth to receive calls? (looking for a way to use Google Maps but my SIM card is in my iphone) tks
Yes, you can do it. When you hook the Android phone up the car will default to it for phone/media. Once you're in Android Auto, you hit the "Return To SYNC" button to the far right. Then go in to the SYNC menu for "Phone" and select the iPhone as the Phone/Media device. I was able to test this briefly and Waze still worked but it appears that no audio alerts from Waze were working, which makes sense because the iPhone now had control of the cars audio. I'll do some more testing, but hope this helps!
UPDATE: Actually, I tested some more and found that audio from Android Auto does work and you can have the iPhone selected as the Bluetooth device. I was able to make/receive calls on my iPhone through Bluetooth while still using Waze on Android Auto. Only thing is, each time you get in the car, you have to go to SYNC as I described earlier and then select the iPhone as the phone/media device. Maybe in a later update they'll allow you to select the preferred Bluetooth device to save the hassle. But, at least there is a way to do it.
Easier to just clip an ipad on the dashboard. And seeing as "apple radio" is now "apple music" ... it means you have to pay to listen. Screw apple and spotify, radio was, and should always be free
16P51-GT for some reason my iPhone 6 Plus if I have the ac on and my phone gets really cold, the battery drops to 2%. Once it warms up and I plug it back in, it goes back to the original percentage.
I've never had that issue with my iPhone. I have seen times in the past when my iPod got too hot from being left in the car and gave a temperature warning. But, I can see if the phone got too cold it could do some strange things.
Johnny Nguyen I know this is an old comment but I thought I'd chime in. With most electronics the battery percentage is an estimation based on voltage/current coming from the battery. Since the battery relies on a chemical reaction, the chemical reaction slows as the temperature drops and the output of the battery is reduced. As a result the phone's battery capacity estimation will also drop. As it warms back up it will go back to a more accurate estimate. TL;Dr maybe move your phone away from your AC vents a little.
Question for you about the auto, I'm in sorta the same boat as you about why you ended up needing to get a manual. Mine situation isn't as severe so I could do a manual, but besides the once in awhile track run or autocross event there would be little need for the manual. Do you ever miss any of the features that come with a manual PP? I know I can build an auto into a PP but it would cost around 10 grand to do that. Just wondering your thoughts on the topic.
I don't. The biggest feature that I would want from the PP is the Brembo's. But, with the amount of brake dust they create, I don't really even want them. Plus the stock GT brakes do a good job. I did add sway bars, etc. But, it comes down to personal preference really. I love the auto. If I want to shift, I just use the paddles.

I've used apple car play in my Ford Endeavour but it doesn't show maps on screen but android auto works very nice with the same sync3 enabled system
omg! the album art on the carplay when playing music is a horrendous blur! As oppose to the Android auto which shows a clear and high quality image.

It uses Google Maps, which is on the phone. So, you can have GPS via Android Auto even if your car doesn't have it by default.

If it has SYNC3 then yes. Log in to the Ford owner site and you can check your version. The official release is out now.

If it's a '16, then yes you will need the USB upgrade in order to use CarPlay. But, Android Auto will work without upgrading the hub.
