To answer the question in the thumbnail, no, the Shambler does not have fur, and there of course was never any doubt regarding the matter. Adrian Carmack, John Romero, and now Sandy Petersen have confirmed this long known truth here:

I refuse to accept this.
As much as I don't give an F about Ridley Scott's insistence of Deckard being a replicant, I show as much respect towards statements of "Make Me His Bitch" Romero, or Carmack the not-coder-one statements on furryness or non-furriness of Shambler. If they wanted him to not look furry they had to model him that way. Say, no one thinks Fiend is furry.

In Quake Champions you can wear the shamblers head and it has fur, but you can also wield their arm and it doesn't. So it's in a superposition and is both at the same time.

Flesh Yeti is a pretty great band name.
The Shambler from Quake is based on the "dimensional shambler" creature from Lovecraftian lore. It does not have fur. Or any hair at all actually. It's skin is so pale that it looks white (because it's from a realm without light), and it's muscular as hell. Imagine a Doom 3 Hell Knight, but with white skin.
Due to the low polygon models in Quake, the Shambler looks like it might have fur, but it doesn't. It's just a super muscular monster with white skin.
Regardless of whether he is fluffy or not, he is definitely the cutest monster in Quake, hands down

It never was a fur. I heard about that joke arguments and I always followed gameplay logic: Shambler have explosions resistance so there's no fur to burn, but vulnerable for nails and energy projectiles as uncovered and unprotected skin.
Then how the fuck do you explain it's lightning and foot-shuffling movements?
It being furry is a logical way of how it could work; seeing discharge build up underneath a shaggy coat.

I believed they were furry myself, but the idea of Shamblers being hairless, big monstrous pieces of flesh makes them more grotesque than they already were.

The only logical conclusion is that Shamblers can have varying patches of fur which acts as a means of generating staggering amounts of static electricity, so more fur means powerful lightning and less means they can only generate weaker, green jolts -- a phenomenon first documented by a malnourished convict.

Great video. Speaking of Quake. Can you do one about the Enforcer enemies? What makes them interesting is that they are the only enemies who can talk and apparently nobody who worked on the game knows who voiced them. The theory is that it was ether John Romero, American McGee, Trent Reznor, or many others who may have voiced them but it still remains a mystery.
It’s worse, it’s covered in white stuff that looks like fur, but is just fleshy hair. It’s like the flesh of a basking shark when it decomposes and people misidentify it as a fuzzy white plesiosaur. Probably feels like Cotten candy meat and smells like expired fish meat. That’s my theory anyway

I honestly never even thought about it. The first time I saw shambler I thought that he just had bare skin. But when I saw this video in my recommended I started to think about this. "Does the shambler actually have fur?" But at the end I found out that my first guess was actually true.

I don't care what the creators said, the Shambler is furry. You can tell by looking at its claws - that's pale skin at the wrists with white fur. If you have eyes and a brainstem, you can obviously tell that's a furred body.

I used to think they were like yeti's, but then realized it made more sense for it to be peeled flesh and bloody bits emerging from pale skin. Not furry

There was an interview Romero did years ago for a Quake fan site in which he stated that he saw the Shambler as having a shaggy coat. The site may no longer exist, though it may be archived. I can't find a link to it, but the interview was very good. Romero may have gone back on that statement now, but he did state it nonetheless. I don't know how Adrian Carmack envisioned the Shambler originally. It would be interesting to see Adrian's concept art for the Shambler, just to see how it looked like on paper. I always saw the Shambler as being like a bloodied yet with no eyes and a fur coat. Having the Shambler look that way without fur would work too, but it's not as effective as it would with fur, but that's just me.
Interestingly, the Shambler was first introduced in the short story by Robert Bloch, the guy who wrote Psycho and was also a protégé of Lovecraft's. In Bloch's story, "The Shambler from the Stars," the Shambler was a star vampire which could be summoned through reading the occult book, De Vermis Mysteriis. The Shambler is invisible when it first attacks, but once it reveals its true form, it's even more grotesque than the Shamblers from Quake. As Bloch describes it:
"It was red and dripping; an immensity of pulsing, moving jelly; a scarlet blob with myriad tentacular trunks that waved and waved. There were suckers on the tips of the appendages, and these were opening and closing with a ghoulish lust.... The thing was bloated and obscene; a headless, faceless, eyeless bulk with the ravenous maw and titanic talons of a star-born monster. The human blood on which it had fed revealed the hitherto invisible outlines of the feaster. It was not a sight for sane eyes to see."
That would be a crazy thought if Quake tried to adapt the Shambler as described in Bloch's story. Considering that the Shambler is supposed to be some kind of alien vampire, that could give id Software and modders an excuse to have the Shamblers appear in Quake II's universe. Imagine Shamblers working for the Strogg, only this time the space versions of Quake's Shamblers could actually suck your health like vampires.
Lovecraft didn't come up with the Shambler, but he was a fan of Bloch's story, and wrote his own sequel story titled "The Haunter of the Dark." Imagine Lovecraft's reaction if he saw the Shambler as envisioned by Adrian Carmack for Quake.
