This is one of my most listened-to tracks, and I love it, as I do all of your other songs. I know you are going through some rough times right now, and the words of someone you don't really know may fall flat, but you do amazing work. Everything is gonna turn out for the better in time, because the tenacity you have to be able to pursue your passion is crazy strong. For now, though, I'm gonna listen to your kickass music again. 4:27 I just realized that when dark link says that he was created by hatred and eyes in the sky, he’s referring to that picture from the intro of wind waker, where ganon is represented by a pair of eyes in the sky looking over a burning hyrule
I think this Shadow/Dark Link is actually a test specifically made by the goddesses though, not something Ganon cooked up. He represents the darkness in Link and was created by...the goddesses. AKA, the eyes in the sky.
This has aged really well, ngl, still a fantastic creation. Coming back to this like, 7 years later brings a lot of shit back. Can't believe I forgot this existed for a while, used to listen to it religiously.
Am I the only one who thinks that the metaphorical battle between Link and his Shadow from 4:21 to 5:29 is especially well done? Like, legitimately thought provoking? I particularly like the line, "I know all your moves and I feel all your pain." It makes you really wonder what it'd really be like to actually do battle with your darker self. Bravo, guys, I mean... whoa.
YES. So much yes. I thought Dark Link brought up a freaky thought with, "You're a slave to the princess... a fuckin' shame.." and "You'll never defeat me! You know that I'm right / You're a servant, a pawn, and you're living a lie!" Just hearing that the first time snapped me out of a three-year pot haze in four seconds. The second line alone completely rewrote my understanding of the Zelda universe. Hence, I love this song.
+TechSeven Definitely, there is no question that these guys have a wonderful talent and the fact that they are channeling it into video game themed music is so wonderful I cant even put it into words.
I love that in this song, Link can't even respond to Dark Link's ending verse and he just devolves into petty insults and childish babbling. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear that rap battle.
"I'M YOUR SHADOW I come from the darkness, your blasphemous side / Created by hatred and eyes in the sky After I beat you I'll live in your mind / And use the Triforce to bring Ganon to life Look in my eyes, we are one of a kind / Same moves, same tights / Same fuckin' drive NO! I know all your moves and I feel all your pain / You're a slave to the princess ...a fuckin' shame... Hyrule could be OURS! Take my hand / We could rule the kingdom, devour the land You'll never defeat me, you KNOW that I'm right / You're a servant, a pawn / And you're living a lie!" ... What can you SAY to that? Nothing. And that's what Link says to him: nothing. I know it'll sound silly. But Dark Link in the video up there set up the most frightening thing I've seen in years. I watch horror movies for the acting, and I play horror games mostly for the challenge (and the atmosphere). Most of the time, they don't scare me. But *the fact that Link can't counter his shadow's argument* genuinely terrifies me. The idea that Link, the (canonical) stereotypical selfless knight himself, one of the most genuinely good people in all of video game-dom, has no retort... holy shit. HOLY. SHIT.
6 years later and these tracks take a dump on modern video game raps and musics. Mostly cause its feels like when you listen to them it feels like you're not listening to the characters necessarily; you're listening to Duane and Brando as if they were playing the games and just having fun. and thats the key word here; FUN
3:47 this part is so well done. that harmony on "I hear your voice, love" is haunting. love the rap battle, but this part makes me come back to the song again and again.
0:39 I've been coming back to this video for years and I just now noticed that the small clip reel of the Zelda games are all in chonological order. Impressive considering I believe the original video came out before Skyward Sword and Hyrule Historia firmly etched the timeline.
@Goodguy33 I go with the "eternal champion" theory. Just as Ganon can reincarnate himself in different period's in Hyrule's history, so it is that in order to reestablish balance, Link and Zelda are continually reborn to fight him. Some of the dialogue Ganon has in later games suggests that this might in fact be the case, as he voices frustration at fighting Link again after several centuries have passed.
It took me like, a decade to realize that the "I hear your voice, Love" line was actually being sung by Link and Zelda simultaneously and that the text overlaying each other wasn't a mistake. 2009 me was just as dense as he was deaf.
Even to this day when someone asks how strong I am, I say I have the strength of a bear that has the strength of 10 gorillas. It's a surprisingly FIRE line!

My favorite song from Duane and Brano, even more than Megaman 2. You did a wonderful job show how when Link first died and encountered Ganon, Link became more violent until Shadow Link appeared and said everything he feared was true. Only when he defeated that part of himself was he able to get what he truly wanted in life.
I gotta be honest, when I got to the Great Palace, I had this on loop after dicking there for about a half hour. And because of this track, I finally won Zelda 2.

MinionOfDeth2112 Lol that's absolute gold.
this game means a lot to me in regards to my childhood. Thanks for making so much great video game music
"Love"...isn't a big enough word. It's just not a big enough word for how I feel about this video.
For some reason out of all Duane and Brand0 songs, this is the one that I think about most to this day.
Years later I return to this song every once in a while for that one verse with dark link
Jesus christ how many time have I watched this in the past 2 days? This is just TOO catchy.
I'm probably one of the few people that preferred this one to the original Zelda. I love platformers, and this one was just hella fun.
Yo this shit takes me back and I'll never get tired of all the songs these guys do
I loved the part from the great palace to the shadow link battle! Those verses are tight!
This video reminds me about how much I truly miss the Irritated Gamer. Great solo Chris, Great song D&B. You guys are so awesome!
seriously, this song is so awesome! I can listen at it all day long
Fight with the shadow was sick. Awesome lyrics in this one guys.
Discovered this today. Thank you for existing.
Many years ago I've back here to listen this masterpiece again. Thanks a lot :)
I love how they are still changing the titles around of their videos they posted years ago
im downloading this for sure i love this i listen to it EVERYDAY along with zelda 1 and mario 2 brando your amazing. #1 fan here
My favorite song from Duane and Brano, even more than Megaman 2. You did a wonderful job show how when Link first died and encountered Ganon, Link became more violent until Shadow Link appeared and said everything he feared was true. Only when he defeated that part of himself was he able to get what he truly wanted in life.
That shadow/dark Link portion was amazing. Damn!
I gotta be honest, when I got to the Great Palace, I had this on loop after dicking there for about a half hour. And because of this track, I finally won Zelda 2.
God that shadow link part still kicks ass, all these years later
Who's still listening to this awesome music in 2022?
I cant fucking believe how amazing the dark link battle music is. Even after 7 years still one of the best remixes of that track.
you guys are so catchy zelda ff they all get stuck in my head all the time :P.
