    I’m not really that concerned. It is what it is. I will say that even though it’s best to actually win the lottery and draft top guys, that doesn’t guarantee success at all.
    Yes, the Sharks look really great for the future, but that doesn’t mean they put it all together and win a Cup one day. Everyone thought the Rangers were going to be a powerhouse when they drafted 1 and 2 in 2019 and 2020 and were adding superstar talent to their already elite core but look at them now.
    There’s many ways to acquire elite talent. You can draft top players and win the lottery which theoretically is the easiest. But you can also trade for players and sign free agents. Considering how the Flyers have 7 picks in the first two rounds of this year’s draft, I’d like to believe that they’re loading up their arsenal and are going to weaponize their picks and their cap space to make a big trade or two in the offseason.

    You can be a competitive group with low talent and still get a higher pick. No one is telling the players to tank, we just want a less skilled team to have a lower chance at winning. They NEED top 5 picks and the last two didn’t pan out for that draft position

      @@straightcashhomey1261exactly. It’s the proper way to rebuild. Players struggling with each other makes them closer.

    There were mainly 2 of Hextall picks that put this team in purgatory: Nolan Patrick at #2 and Jay O'Brien at #17. Absolutely burned those picks.

    No player (even the Process Sixers) goes out and intentionally tries to lose a game. But you can construct a roster that isn’t that good, so the chances are you will lose more than win.
    By trading Frost/Farabee, and possibly trading Laughton and Risto at the deadline, it will make the Flyers a worse roster than 2 weeks ago. Right now they would get the #10 pick in the draft. They could end with the #5? #6 pick now since they will probably be worse. That’s all Russ is saying.
    Therien is stuck in the pre-salary cap era NHL where mediocrity wasn’t a bottomless pit. He played in an era where you could restack your team because there was no salary cap. He played in an era of 26 teams compared to 32 where you just had better odds to make the playoffs. I actually wish the NHL never expanded and never instituted the salary cap as Therien’s NHL was actually a better league. But we are stuck in Bettman’s parity NHL and being mediocre is a death sentence. Bettman has set up a system where it’s easier to be mediocre than build a cup winner.

    There's no lack of clarity on what Danny Briere is striving for. To build through the draft. Not tanking, did the Islanders tank in the early and mid 70s. Striking similarly between Bill Torey and Danny Briere. Islanders Torrey did it without a salary cap. Briere has one. No lack of direction, Flyers are right on schedule. Smack dab in the middle of a complete rebuild and overhaul of everything, through draft capital and player development.

    Amazing how just a year or so ago this podcast was super high on Torts, Jonesy, and Briere. Now it's sell the farm, this sucks and the roof is falling. You knew from the get go that this is what you were going to get with Torts. Middle of the road and middle of the draft with picks.

    What is the plan for the team's identity, style, culture? Just adding and subtracting players and coaches is not the answer. While Ed Snider was maybe somewhat behind the times later on, his teams still had an identity that the players understood and complied with. It worked.

    2nd time listening to this, why can we not live in reality? The Flyers can't develop personnel past the ceiling of being everyday NHLers and they can't draft players in unfavorable draft positions that exceed broad consensus of their potentiality, so they're the definition of middle of the road. It's not about asking players to tank, it's just frustrating to see wave after wave of Flyers players drafted year in and out that just "exist" on the ice. We are an organization that produces plug in and play of 200ft NHL players and we pride ourselves (meaning the team) on that instead of taking some big swings here and accept that players that drastically exceed their limits here are few and far between. Just do a better job at getting the Tippets the Frosts the Beezers of the world to be more skilled hockey players, the Flyers simply don't do that.

    This new management team was suppose to grow young players and they failed…..losing goalie Hart for nothing,losing Gauthier in a trade(yes lost,Drysdale is collecting minus points like it was a basketball game) and now have failed to make Frost and Farabee into good pros and traded them for nothing..

    Russ always wants to tank. He does a good job himself so does he want Bundy and Antnony to tank as well then we can get a better guy than a mediocre Russ. Hes an minor league podcast host for an NHL team

    Constantly finishing just outside the playoffs and picking mid first rd gets you exactly what you've gotten for the last decade......middling slop.
    Let's get fucking serious, there's only one way to build.....draft high for a number of years.

    Bundy yells at Russ and THEN makes his point about not drafting high enough to get legit star players by admitting the last 10 Stanley cup winners (it's actually longer) have had atleast 1 top 2 pick. You can't make this up 😂😂

      @MS-nc5sd 7 дней назад

      NOONE wants to watchc a competitive team that has no real future. No stars in the pipeline, consistently drafting in the teens or twenties and maybe a year where they draft 7 then right back in the teens the next year. When they said "rebuild" they should have sold assets and fielded a shitty team. Instead they don't wanna trade Laughton because he's a "glue" guy 😂😂😂

    @dankybud2532 8 дней назад

    the team is competitive but just not consistent, which kind of speed bumps them taking their game to the next level. We see it here and there, but then here comes a 3-4 game losing streak and goes to shit and have to get back where they were. 1 step forward 2 steps back. It's getting there but its a slow process. I'm really curious with having 7 picks in the first 2 rounds. Deal and move up, deal for a player, deal for 2026 1st round as I here is better, I dunno might hit up bed bath & beyond i dunno lol
