Yes, you can marble almost anything with Jacquard Marbling Colors. However, we would not recommend using the paint on the lip of the mug without some kind of top coat.
Carrageenan is used to the thicken the water that we float the paints on. After marbling, it rinses off. Yes, we do recommend pre-treating the fabric with alum before marbling. Both carargeenan and alum come in the Jacquard Marbling Kit: store.jacquardproducts.com/products/marbling-kit
