can you also use other acrylic paints and nail polishes or does it only mean to use only jacquard's paints,. I am looking for teal turquoise colors and more brighter colors too. can you use other colors?
+Sound8Vision You will have the best results if you use natural fiber fabric - cotton, silk, etc. Be sure to have a large enough tub so that your garment will lay flat on the surface. I just tried the Jacquard Marbling Kit. I was so excited to do the marbling. But I was disappointed with the outcome. I need some advice. I mixed the solutions as directed. I let the carrageenan rest for several hours. As I put the drops of paint in the solution, a good bit of the paint dropped to the bottom. So my patterns kept dissipating. Finally got the pattern I liked and applied my treated paper. pulled it up and rinsed as directed. The pattern ran as it was drying and a good bit of it washed away. Very frustrating. But I am not giving up! Please give me some guidance.
+Linda Wilson If you used tap water the first time, try using distilled water the next time. Tap water can sometimes contain too many minerals making it too hard. The carrageenan generally helps to soften the hard water, but sometimes it just isn’t enough. Soft water keep the paint floating. Another option would be to add a little Borax (found in the laundry detergent aisle of your grocery store) to the water before adding the carrageenan. Another thing that might be happening is that your paint has too much velocity when hitting the water. Try to drop the paint as close to the surface as possible - almost touching the surface as it comes off the brush or the bottle. This will help prevent it from breaking the surface tension. As for the rinsing, it sounds like one of two things happened - first the paint didn’t have time to adhere to the paper - leave it sitting in the water/marbling tray a little longer or wait a few more minutes before rinsing it off. The second option is twofold - it didn’t have enough alum on it or it had too much other sizing. Be sure to use an unsized paper to begin with (something like watercolor paper has a lot of sizing to prevent it from falling apart when water is added, which will repel the paint). Copperplate Paper, Block Printing Paper, Mulberry Paper, or construction paper are all good options. Be sure to leave this in the alum mixture long enough for it to absorb the mixture but not start falling apart ( 1 - 5 minutes depending on the type and thickness of paper). +Linda Wilson Hey I work for Jacquard and the new kit has been reformulated and works 10,000 times better. In the video here, it looks terrible. Honestly the product didn't work correctly before. It works much much better now right out of the box. Check some of the videos on jacquarproducts.com channel.
What is the difference between Jacquard ink and the ink she uses in this tutorial of yours: ruclips.net/video/J410yQ7PI1E/видео.html I don't understand why you need all these chemicals with Jacquard? Also do you need to go through the sizing stage of the paper, if you have something like aquarel paper?
Jacob Sørensen The ink used in Suminagashi is formulated to float on water. The inks included in the Jacquard set are not, so they require that the water be thickened in order to float. Applying the alum to the paper will help the ink to bind to the paper. Watercolor paper would not absorb the ink, so when the paper was rinsed, the design would mostly wash back off. Blick Art Materials My main problem is finding something large enough to lay a flat t-shirt in. Any suggestions?
You may need to use something like a kiddie pool. The liquid base does not have to be deep, just deep enough to float the color on the surface.
