It comforts me to know that Pope Benedict (RIP) never varied from this view which he outlined in a german radio interview when he was a young priest - Fr Ratzinger in 1969. He painted the picture of a smaller Church consisting of small groups around the world, and quite separate from the world as a collection forming the remnant. He also touched on the point that when the rest of the world fell into complete paganism and materialism, they would begin to notice the shining lights of these isolated groups forming the Remnant and would be in awe of their peace and contentment. As you say, this vision is becoming more into focus these days and this should be a great consolation to us, rather than a concern. Yes Bob i agree that the persecution today, the Spiritual war, is more horrific. Wars in the past have hurt us physically and yes spiritually too or for some, but today's "societal wars" torment us greater spiritually. They are affecting the people's souls.
