- Sony’s PlayStation 5 has finally gained traction after a tumultuous couple of years where production was stymied by worldwide microchip and superconductor shortages.
Now, more people than ever own a PS5, meaning there are hundreds of thousands of Sony-owning racing game fans out there all eager to pick up their next fix.
Helpfully, we’ve decided to list our top ten favourite racing games currently available to play natively on the PS5, and there are some surprises in store. (And one entry that isn’t a surprise at all!)
PS5 players are lucky enough to choose from the likes of GRID Legends, Wreckfest, Need for Speed Unbound and Gran Turismo 7 (as well as many, many more). However, you may be shocked at which games didn’t even make the cut...

I remember hating Driveclub and being so annoyed that I wasted money on it.
But I looked it up there after seeing your comment and I think I may have missed out on an absolutely fantastic game.

It's one of the few "no upgrade" racing games I truly enjoyed. It focused on driving skill, with a ton of different cars to select from. Everyone is stock, it just depends on what car might have a better advantage in certain maps

Wreckfest hands down is the best game I've ever played. The online community are amazing to play with and you will be laughing, having good chats and enjoying your self for hours and hours non stop. This game is absolutely amazing to play with and soooooo much fun.

They definitely need to make tourist trophy 2 like they've talked about. They're just not sure if it'll be made. I love the thought of Gran Turismo, motorcycle racing, pure simulator. Made from polyphony digital and Sony.
Nfs unbound is very fun and I actually like the name brand clothing especially the Versace jumpsuit they got 😂
All of these games NEED a PSVR2 version or add-on ...
This will give any driving game a huge leap in the future.

Wtf in my opinion the cartoon style is why need for speed looks so good its so unique and different and a nice change of pace for the visuals
I ended up getting Grand Turismo 7 but nobody mentioned you have to have internet to play the game and unfortunately hot spots don't work. Maybe I'm too old school and just prefer games that are ready to go out the package but with all the cool updates I'm probably going to have to get a good internet provider and really see what this and other games are all about.
So how did it go? I have gt sport aswell but not sure if it works, probably offline only due to servers being down

I agree mostly. I think WRC should have been much higher on the list. That game is pretty much perfect. Personally, I’m waiting for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. Anybody else?
Me too, we need a good open world racing game on PlayStation. I like TDU2 a lot but the physics are bad, a new game with a lot of the old features kept in but improved physics and visuals would be incredible.
Yeah I agree too, wrc is so much better than most other games on this list here.

GRID (2019) plays really well on PS5. Feels and plays a lot like Driveclub. Usually dirt cheap in a sale with all season content adding quite a bit. I Prefer it to the forced grinding required to progress in GRID Legends.

Does anyone know if you can turn off the cartoonich effects on nfs unbound? That is literally the reason stopping me from trying it.
The number one factor I have with any PS game is if you can play it offline. Eventually all companies shut off their servers and if you need to be online then you own a coaster when they shut the servers down. I still play old GT games, but can no longer play GT 'sport' because they just shut down the servers. I refuse to play rental games no matter what the experience.
I sunk hours into MotoGP22 and still feel dog-doodle at the game. Truly tests your skills and patience on learning a real life skill in a video game.

The world needs a free to play monthly updated jdm/drag race open world multiplayer game where you can drive with friends along some dope ass mountains and pay to win tunes... PLEASE SOMEONE

Not aure what game it is but i remember seeing the trailer for a racing game an a part I remember was a couple cars racing in snow an a avalanche was happening, then the cars made it through into a tunnel. I wish I could remember this game cause it looked so amazing.
For me, ACC is the nr 1, eventho that GT7 has VR! The reason for this is that ACC has better FFB on DD Pro wheel and the sound of the game is greater!
Ehh.. acc is broken on console. FFB imo is better in GT7 because of the amount of time needed to even dial it in on ACC. Gt7 just works.

Nfs unbound is a pretty sweet game. I enjoyed the challenge and the rewards of dominating

GTA 5 online racing is still super fun imo.
Always had a real feel to the cars in gta4 idk about 5 a lil arcade
The cartoon-like visuals in NFS: Unbound was a bad move. I understand EA wanted to try something new in order to bring something fresh to the series, but this was not the way to go.
Fully agree ! It is sad , very sad.
I have played all of the need for speed games , ALL OF THEM and unbound is the only one i will not buy. I wanna play need for speed , not this comic book race type game. 😅

Real shame only gt7 is on PSVR2 …. No longer can play racing games on flat screens
Basically if you want to have a realistic simulation go for assetto corsa or assetto corsa competizione, it’s a shame project cars didn’t continue his games as the first chapter
Should be 1-10 with the 1 spot bein 3 spots ahead of 2. No other game on the list even comes close to GT7. In Vr is superior by far!

I was hoping there was going to be a game on here that I haven't played yet PS5 needs to drop some more AAA racing games or just some more games in general you would think in 2024 every game would have graphics like God of war or Spider-Man or GTA v I don't know why they still make these Atari looking games.

This is mostly all I play nowadays is racing sometimes mostly today I've been playing fortnite but mostly I'll play racing games
Unbound is good, but not great
The best is payback
Simple gameplay, fun multiplayer and a good and long storyline that you will never get bored of. And when you are done the storyline, u will have 2 kind of multiplayer lobbies or just be free on the roads.
I recommended it more than unbound
I am reasearching for a few days to buy some modern nfs titles and you are the only guy on the internet praising payback, or was it satire? People say Heat is good and others say rivals is good too, but unbound is not as good of a nfs title and payback is like a no no

Unbound is the "best NFS game in a decade"? What? Did you miss Heat? Defintely the best NFS in years and better than Unbound. Hell, I would even argue NFS 2015 is better than Unbound

NFS Unbound is by far the worst one yet. What are you talking about especially on a wheel. 😒 And they have had plenty of time to fix it! NFS Payback is a better game.

Lol my PC is sitting there while My PS5 is gets used for 5hrs plus a day. PC is over rated now. Ps5 and a LG C2 oled or psvr2 is the most immersive gaming for a fraction of the cost of a decent PC. PC has turned in to a "pay to win" experience and I'm no long a slave to my constant driver update or stupid VR setup procedures.
