My advice for anyone planning to visit Kennywood: Go with the expectation Steel Curtain will not be open. I went for the first time last year and really enjoyed the park despite Steel Curtain not being open. Phantom's Revenge is an elite hyper and possibly has the best 2nd drop I have ever experienced on a coaster! If you are expecting for Steel Curtain to be open when you visit Kennywood you may have a bad time at the park.
Kennywood needs a large capacity B&M coaster ...they're reliability is unmatched...the phantoms revenge is always running....steel curtain should have been that ... hopefully they can make it more reliable it is a really amazing coaster to ride
Wait they were offered a Mack Hyper Coaster for only 28 million!? Why didn’t they go with that? S&S coasters are pretty much always unreliable. And even if the Mack coaster was a bit out of there budget they probably could have gotten a smaller scale B&M for around 25 million, like a floorless coaster, dive coaster or a smaller wing coaster. I mean Gate keeper only cost Cedar Point around 30 million.
Gatekeeper never has a line either! It started my hate for B&M. The ride is so boring! I don’t understand when anyone says they should put more B&M coasters up, giant yawn.
@@cmartin2304 You hate B&M because you don’t like one of there coasters? I don’t really think your understand what’s going on here. There is a new rumor swirling that Kennywood might remove Steel Curtain. The construction crews that were gonna be doing the work on it came here 6 weeks ago, they were here for 2 days, then they left and have not returned. Removing it is honestly the best thing for everyone, remove and get a new coaster that will operate. --the supports were engineered closer to the margins to save money and also fit the restrictive footprint
--4D CAD and computer simulations of load were calculated and within limits
--despite all of our tech it is impossible to always 100% simulate every force for every design / this is in all industries--construction, autos, space, defense , aviation ect

--repeated flexing does cause metal fatigue but that is calculated and engineered into the designs and maintenance / think of a nuclear submarine when it dives the hull contracts several inches at max depths
--the movement of SC during operations has created harmonic resonance which accounts for the rattle as reported and felt / this leads to excessive strain on the bolts compounded with the excessive movement of the supports thus causing the design life of the bolts to be much shorter than anticipated / the bang heard during operation was a single bolt shearing (absolutely no danger to anyone) each bolt attachment is safety redundant multiple times
--high grade bolts are expensive and time consuming to replace / supply chain shortages compound the issue
--the train issue was a spec change w the restraints per the State requiring changes / this is not as uncommon or surprising as it might sound / cities, counties and states change specs especially fire and safety specs literally all the time during construction requiring retrofits / train mods were a one time thing and have been completed / again no safety issues just dealing with bureaucratic red tape but resolved (anyone dealing with government understands this)
--solution has already engineered and--i have already shared more than i should hence this throwaway account--but the additional supports have already been engineered and are in production / will be installed this off season / new bolts throughout / retesting w water dummies and recert to happen this off season
--the lawyers just have to figure out who pays the bills / this is what has taken so long and the issue is how much KW has to pay bc of the value engineering pressure but at the same time how much S&S has to pay because at what point should they have drawn a hard line and said you can't meet all of these specs AND have a low maint / reliable coaster with this budget
--a new net will be installed where the track is at it lowest point over the walk way
Summation: SC is safe, needs additional supports to lower maint costs and increase reliability and overall design life / safety is not and has not ever been an issue

It definitely appears to be a great ride for sure! Really hoping the park and manufacturer can properly get things settled out so we can see this ride in operation again soon! Thanks for watching!
We’ll have to see an how steel curtain’s uptime is going to be because my first visit to Kennywood was back in August 2023 and it was closed due to structural issues and it’s the only coaster I’m missing at Kennywood of the coasters they have and I might go back if it’s up and running again if not steel curtain I may have to skip this coaster all because of its temperamental (huge R.I.P)
The whole situation regarding this coaster is very unfortunate...
Just really hoping the park and manufacturer can properly get things figured out.
After kennywood got bought by new owners they aren't in the business of getting rides that work.
People are giving S&S a break… you hardly read any comments of people saying anything about that company… but if that had been INTAMIN that made that coaster people would skewer them
I love this ride, id personally take it out cause its been a complete maintenance nightmare.
Time will tell!
I think Kennywood was bad decision negotiating with S&S and buy new coaster?
I blame Mike Tomlin. 😂
Haha! 🤣
me too 😂
And they just announced steel curtain will be closed for the entire 2024 season!
That's such a bummer, but hopefully, that means they can fix the ride's issues permanently.
this has the slowest lift hill but i have never rode it
Interesting!
It should be transformed into a zamperla multi launch coaster.
I highly doubt that happening, but yeah that'd be interesting!
@@KatiesCoasters I was joking.
@@jameshirshfeld2070 Gotcha! 🤣
@@KatiesCoasters what do you think Canada wonderland is getting for 2025.
@@jameshirshfeld2070 Hmm, I'm not sure! 🤔
Ride has amateur support system, so I'm not surprised it has other issues. S&S are almost always unreliable. $20 million is cheap as hell for a ride like this. Just like with home repair, never, ever go with the cheapest quote.
Very true words... Time will tell what the outcome of this ride will be!
Thanks for watching!
why football coaster no operate
Due to maintenance and mechanical issues unfortunately.
They just announced it will be closed this season
I heard... Hopefully, they can fix it permanently after this much extended closure.
It's piece of junk.
Or maybe if they also do get rid of this ride maybe they can bring back The Laser Loop
I already rode steel curtain
That's awesome! How'd you like it?
@@KatiesCoasters it’s one of my favorite steel coasters
I can’t ride it anyways imma browns fan 😂
Haha, that's too funny! 😂
😂😂😂
my opinion I think the park should've went with another manufacturer! this ride Is never open and I personally think kennywood should do away with it
It is very unfortunate how many problems this ride is giving the park... Hopefully Kennywood and S&S can get things properly figured out soon!
Follow the money.
Or bring back The Turnpike Cars
I went last July after I went to the Steelers training camp. It is a park that I recommend since you haven’t been there, but take friend to ride thunderbolt.
As far as Steel Curtain, that was the reason I went. Sad it was closed, but its looks impressive nonetheless. I’m trying to go again this summer, but will make it a full day trip and not split it.
Kennywood definitely looks like a great park! Hoping Steel Curtain can re-open soon! 🤞
@@KatiesCoasters Even without Steel Curtain Kennywood is amazing. Phantom's Revenge is a world class coaster and that ride alone made my visit worth it. I hope you get out there!
