I just got the exact SSD and formated it according to your instructions. I got the same read/write speed 870 MB/s using BlackMagic Speed test. I'm on a iMac i9 2019 modell. That was using the provided USB-C cable in the box. I also ran the same test with an Apple Thunderbolt cable and got slighly faster write speed, almost 900 MB/s.

Thank you. I, too, was confused when I did not see the APFS option.

if you want compatibility with Windows, you can format between the two FAT(32GB or lower) or ExFat(32GB and higher) depending on file sizes. ExFat is ideal.

Do you really need to format the SSD? Especially if you want the drive to be compatible with windows?

What if I have files on the ssd already. I was using on windows but want to use it on Mac now! I dont want to format and lose all my files.

Formatting erases the ssd. Check what format you have if it’s NTFS then that is read only on a Mac. ExFat is the compatible format to both Windows and Mac. If you’re on NTFS then back up your files first in your PC before formatting to ExFat.

I’m not sure if I’ll need for both mac and pc if I choose exFat to format is it much slower than APSF? Thx

If you are going to use it for time machine backups, APFS is faster... you have the option to create another partition that could have a different format like exFAT

For some reason my t7 4tb registered 2 mb write on exfat. Apfs was 800mb

The audio quality of your presentation could use some polish. Your speaking style is what I would call "mumbles." And you suddenly speed through steps that seem easy to you, leaving the listener wondering what the heck you just said. Truly do appreciate your efforts to help us out, but I'd give you a C- for overall presentation skills.
