I related on so many levels and found Crystal to be deeply insightful. I am definitely intrigued. I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago and lived in Kenosha, WI (just minutes from Racine) for many years. So fun to have an artist from my old stomping grounds being interviewed. So many of the messages Crystal speaks about were a part of our Midwest upbringing. We are the special occasion in our lives.

I loved hearing the backstory about how Crystal received her fellowship -- how she almost didn't try that second time because of what someone else said, how someone else encouraged her anyway -- and how it doesn't always matter if you have an MFA -- I often think that myself when applying to these type of things (since I don't have an MFA) it was really reassuring and encouraging as well as inspiring, too! Also Crystal said something really COOL about Style/Voice -- she said "I FLOW IN MY STYLE" -- i loved how she summed that up -- and talked about separating out inner voice vs style -- and how it can be extrapolated from the artistic voice in general -- so great to listen to and see all of her work - love all the differences -- very inspiring!
