How i would see dark sonic, (and this is just sorta head cannon/ how i think sonic would cannonly go dark.) is that egg man take a chaos emerald and makes a copy of it. It is as powerful as a normal chaos emerald but instead of positive chaos energy, the “fake” emerald egg man created would run off negative energy. Sonic would absorb it, and ta-da! Dark sonic. Dark sonic is my my second favorite form of sonic but my true favorite is fleetway. if they mad fleetway cannon i think it would be the same with dark sonic. egg man makes 7 fake chaos emeralds, sonic absorbs them, boom!! Fleetway.
