  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2015 Volvo V60 Cross Country is European wagon designed to take on the ice and snow of winter in Sweden. But how does this car handle the Colorado Rocky Mountains when the snow gets deep and the road gets steep? Roman decided to find out in another TFLcar snowbound review.

    As a swed, I'm actually impressed that you made it so far without proper tires.
    You guys over in north america should try out a a tire brand called Nokian. They are a finnish brand making some superb winter tires both with and without studs.

      I have a 1999 Volvo XC70 stationwagon. All my friends make fun of me, but I love her! Love the all wheel drive. I live in Ohio USA I go camping and hiking and often take some roads that need more than front wheel drive to traverse. I cant afford a new Volvo. But I will have enough money saved for a used 2015 Volvo XC70 next spring. My dream car. Cant wait!

      Niclas F P The only downside is that you MUST remove them in early spring or else they will wear very quickly.

    • @seankadar9550

      Simple answer to why they don't test with snow tires. Most consumers who buy these or any all wheel drive car are told by the salespeople who sell them that they don't need them. I know it’s ridiculous but it is what it is.

    • @blueschild61
      @blueschild61 6 лет назад +1

      They get these cars brand new from the factory for about a day or so to do testing. Automobile manufacturers always put the cheapest rubber possible on the vehicle while in the factory.
      They would have to buy their own tires and rims for every make of car they test. Change them and then change them back for 24hrs of testing. That doesn't seem very worth while or cost effective to me.
      It's not like TFL has Motor Trend money or resources.

    Did anyones eye pop when Roman showed all this was done with ALL SEASON tires??
    I mean it in a good way - I thought the Volvo was doing INCREDIBLY well. Infact, it went through so much snow it acted like a snow plow - to the point that its chassis was riding on snow...
    So...the Haldex AWD clearly was far from any limiting factor at all - the car simply couldn't push more snow!! An xc90 or XC60/XC70 with 8+ inches of clearance would have gone further, all things equal.
    Infact, this video shows some of the forum chatter about all seasons being crap in winter is well, kind crap. A good all season (at least in a Volvo) can save one the need to keep two sets of tires for their daily driver.

    • @georgeetoile6686

    I used to take my last XC70 on serious snow trails with a group of off roaders from Wyo and NoCo. Sometimes we'd have to winch through in train, truck to truck to truck to truck to Volvo haha. The XC70 had oversized Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires installed and was a monster in the snow. Just gotta have DSTC or ESC turned off. My 2014 XC60 has been in some pretty deep snow on trips to Estes or Steamboat but with the 20s, it won't be seeing any serious of road trails...

    While the ground clearance isn't as high as the Outback and the XC60, I think it did rather well considering it was using all season tires. Drove one recently, it was quite comfortable up front and stable on the road, wished it was a bit larger inside and in the trunk area considering the price point now, I think I 'll wait to for the new one on the SPA platform, should be larger inside. Roman, backing that thing up would have been easier using the backup camera to keep the wheels in the tracks you made going forward. Great review as always! Keep giving us more!

    You just needs snow tires if you're driving in that deep amount of snow up hills. Come on. Gotta be 9"+. You can also manually select a higher gear, like third, to lesson the wheel spin when going from a stop. Works for my V60, you just have to get to know the car. It still did pretty well considering.

    Here's my biggest problem with this Volvo. Why not pay around 2K more to get the XC70 with the T6 loaded and get a bigger car with more ground clearance? Better question, why is the 60 series of vehicles so expensive compared to the rest of the line...

      I really like the XC70, and it really breaks my heart that Volvo is soon going to stop producing it. That was the best modell Volvo did in modern times.

      +Liquid Chrome I own both a V70 and a V60, and I can say that the V60 is much more fun to drive.. It makes you feel the road and if you want you can drive really challenging. The V70 is great as well, but in another way... you have a really good trunk (much bigger than most SUVs) and you can go really far without getting tired when driving. It´s smooth and kind of flows down the road. :)
      Soon I'll get a V60 D5 TE, the twin engine hybrid! That will be a whole new experience, but still that good Volvo-feeling. ;)

      just size-wise, the v40 is plenty big enough for me. The rear wheels get a pre-charged instantaneous 59 lb ft of torque with only 15 degrees of front wheel spin. Go and measure the diameter of the wheels on this Volvo and figure how much wheel spin that is. It'll work out to about 4 inches on your wheel. 4 inches of spin will occur on your tire in about a millionth of a second.
    Also, from Haldex 3, the system will add power to the rear wheels when starting from a dead stop, or when doing hard acceleration, without any wheel spin. So stop with the power "delay" to the rear wheels myth. In real terms, it doesn't happen.

Very competent in the snow without snow tires. 8.7 inches of ground clearance does help. A little under-powered though..could use a little more torque. I am curious about this Volvo though. I'll schedule a test drive someday. I'm sure the overall ride quality is probably more comfortable than my Subie.

    When will Volvo get back into the diesel market ? Now would be the time to get back in the game.

    • @jasont42
      @jasont42 8 лет назад

      Nope. Unfortunately we don't. Just the German brands (VW, Audi, Mercedes Benz and BMW) and Chevrolet. It would make sense for Volvo to have a better diesel option here.

    • @viktorjjakobsson9710
      @viktorjjakobsson9710 8 лет назад +1

      That doesnt sound fair, I personally find the Volvo diesels to be some of the better ones out there, especially the D5!

      That is subject to who sees the value, who thinks what a product is worth and is willing to pay the price. Personally, I think 50k is too much for this car and I would not buy it at that price. Others, like yourself might not feel that way.

    • @v60polestar88
      @v60polestar88 8 лет назад +5

      I agree. Subarus are great cars, but there interiors are awful and the build quality can't compare to a Volvo.

    • @hermanknief
      @hermanknief 8 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't even say the drivetrain on the Subie is better, especially since their AWD isn't truly symmetrical anymore unless you can get a base model with manual transmission. Read the fine print on the marketing info.

      Subaru puts weeks engines and CVT in all their cars with cheap materials and sell them based on "feelings". Subaru used to be decent but now they suck, bad.

      In 2018, Volvo sold about 650,000 cars world wide. Chinese Geely bought the company from Ford who had it 1999 to 2010, seeing a good thing. The car is still Swedish designed and made in Sweden, Belgium, China, and most recently in South Carolina USA.

    I just went to Volvo website to price a car brb they have to watch this video adjustable suspension to raise the ground clearance and the dash is ugly they need to look at the outside sculpturing the cars and SUVs and go from there just a more flush and bigger touch screen really tesla like but more fitting to dash not a huge rectangle the small interior really won't bother be

      +mana1111 Except the Subarus all come now with the CVT which I do not care for in any application....that's a deal killer for me.
      Had a '80 245 DL 4 sp (RWD and it had to have winter tires in the rear). Most recently, a '05 V50 T5 AWD AT..same engine as the V60 being reviewed and it too benefitted by having dedicated winter tires; in my case, General Arctic Altimax tires.
