About THEM:
THEM is a limited anthology series that explores terror in America. The first season, 1950s-set COVENANT centers around a Black family who move from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood during the period known as The Great Migration. The family’s idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, next door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.

This was chilling, gruesome and intelligent. It was painful to watch but I couldn't stop. These are things that happen to people only to be treated like they're crazy after experiencing such traumatizing events. I cried at times and gasped several times while covering my mouth. This was art imitating life. Thank you for creating this series. I'm exhausted.
This series is a mere window to our ancestors experience and only a piece of it. They used factual events in American history and made a story around it. The horror aspect was symbolic of something much deeper but I see that went over a lot of peoples head. (Even though they do break it down for you) This was an amazing series. Great writing. Great acting. Great cinematography. Of course it was triggering but I am glad I watched it. If you like AHS it has a similar vibe.

This series was intense to watch but as a writer myself this series is sooo deep!!!
This was a work of Art.. You have to follow it spiritually and practically
🕎🖤
I totally got this show.. That "No blacks allowed to buy here" clause was on my contract papers when i signed paperwork for a home i purchased in a Washington, DC neighborhood. Even though, its not legally recognized and hasn't been for a long time, it still shows up as a clause on paperwork in older neighborhoods today.
that is disgusting! sorry to hear that america is so twisted.

This is a MASTERPIECE!!! Absolute perfection. Story and filmed scenes
I'm 66 born in 1955 I can relate as you can imagine I seen a lot since I was a baby boy
A very challenging watch at times. almost unremittingly grim. But that does seem to be the point - in imagining a world in which there is nowhere to turn for succour, never getting out from under a soul-crushing weight...man. This show has definitely got under my skin.
I grew up in Compton in the 70's and 80's, I've never seen this movie but I'm gonna watch the trailer
I really enjoyed watching this series! The beautiful black family, the cinematography, infusion of symbolism, and the way it have you think about and discuss racism and oppression, makes this one of the best series that I have watched in a long time!
I just finished season 1. No words... Chilling and interesting at the same time
Great storyteller. He is very smart and is a great teacher.
As a white woman of Hispanic heritage, I learned a lot from this series about what black folks had to and still have to endure. The historical information was very informative.
I loved this and couldn’t stop watching it! I really enjoyed not having to wait for the next episodes!
2021 still has this tension, very sad
Yes, this show is horror not just breaking the fourth wall but reaching out and giving you a backhander to the chops. 45 made it feel like the 50s again. The bitter hate has become correspondingly emboldened.
Excellent show, I just finished watching the last episode of the first season and I’m blown away for how good this was; the acting was great, script, editing, costumes, sets, cinematography, all the symbolism, etc looking forward to watch S2
This was brilliant, I watched it spiritually and carnally. I was gasping at so much of the biblical references throughout. I loved it!
that part tied it all together imo. 🕎🖤
@@ramonbenton Yes!!
Little Marvin is absolutely brilliant
💯 % agree
@@GratefulZen yes indeed 😀
I find this horrendous because I am sure this has happened not only in the 1950's but current day. I am white but in a mixed race marriage. When we bought our first house in Lakewood, CA in 2000, my husband was out front doing yard work (predominately white neighborhood) and a white family cruising in their car asked my husband if they could speak to the owners because they wanted to know if any houses were for rent or sale on our block. They were shocked to find out he was the owner and not the gardener.
This man is a GENIUS...he also reminds me of a young James Earl Jones

How brilliant is Little Marvin! Such an inspiration.❤💯
This show is a masterpiece. So hard to watch, but a masterpiece nonetheless.
Like it or not this was creatively brilliant and historically facts. Why is it as black Americans we try to discard are forget what we endured as a race and still going through, I think it’s evident that this social structure called society plan was to erase our true identity , our origin and the very thought of us being superior but that was the plan. We only can heal and move forward by exposing the truth and the truth is these atrocities shown through these series were real and still exist today. Hollywood has been depicting our pain and suffering for years on film for entertainment . The truth is .... you’ll never get it out of a book ✊🏾
Black trauma is not entertainment...
NEVER has been, or ever will be.
So, are you saying this anthology is entertainment?
You're correct. But clearly the creators intention is not just to merely entertain, but to inform and shed light on the depth of the pain we endure and to bring an awareness to everyone about the impact of racism on our spirits, our minds and our bodies. It depicts the evil and insidious aspects of racism and how it is so demeaning to us.
This may be off-topic, but I love this dude's voice.
Best series ive ever seen!
So who's the intended audience?
As Black Americans are knowledgeable of this nation's Horrors.
Hmm 🤔. Exactly
I spent the entire series in a perpetual state of fight or flight with a side-order of residual guilt. And a frisson of shame I haven't really earned by my own actions but felt all the same. So I guess I must be one of them.
Art is intended to disturb the comforted and to comfort the disturbed. There are many folks who don't understand that the West Coast was just as racist as the south. I sure as hell didn't know about the intricacies of mortgage interest fixing schemes. You're making an assumption. Not everyone has grandparents, or aunts and uncles old enough to discuss some of this history. Hell, how many kids end up in orphanages and don't know about these things as a consequence?

What a great series. I found myself screaming at the screen and have my emotions pushed to the limit. Great lead actors. Got one more episode to watch if my nerves can take it. ;-)
Imagine how much horror blacks felt for centuries and present decades..the hate and anger and despicable stereotyping and disparities based on a negative debilitating cultural psychosis against humanities blacks and indigenous Indians however nothing so long lasting as WS and racism here in American..deflected and attempts to bury my brothers and sisters history no matter how egregious it was it’s all we have...and then as if these sick scenarios didn’t happen..I wished blacks could have just sat and watched a movie and screamed and then easily could have cut off the egregious program or movie and experienced privilege of their complexion by that I mean being respected protected and have equality and left alone to live without racist abuse because of their black skin we didn’t have that grace in this nation of colonization separation discrimination and abusive harm caused that went unpunished judicially..these things in the movie HAPPENED and no Blacks cannot get over it..it’s our tragic history.. I cannot and will not say that was my ancestors not me that were lynched public ally as the community gathered segregated stereotyped excluded marginalized against I must carry that burden for my ancestors suffering ..unlike the majority race that deny and says it wasn’t me that owned slaves I didn’t do those things ...apathetic denial is the worse as privilege evolved because of blacks demise culturally in this country...this is more than a great movie with great actors and having momentary connections It’s not a typical horror movie It’s a MESSAGE and a reality of racist FACTS perpetrated by “THEM’ and denied by “THEM” Shamelessly and insidiously.

Just finished watching the first season and what an incredible show!
What an exciting story, well done. So proud of you!
Just started watching this today, really good
Profoundly impactful. Jim Crow laws "ended" but the systemic marginalization of blacks continues to this day. Red lining is still a thing in the US. One can pursue happiness and enjoy liberty. But if one is black the likelihood of finding happiness and enjoying liberty will be considerably more difficult. No sensible person dare deny the validity of critical race theory.
Love from Japan 🇯🇵
So well done, incredibly deep from the basements, the foundations of fractured souls. Simply Amazing.
This is the best movie that takes in the real horror of the Black American experience! It's better than even the movie Poltergeist from 1980. Without the caskets coming out of the ground. Lol. This movie takes on the horror that my people have experienced in this country since the beginning. It still continues today. The trauma exists today. I appreciate that we don't know how the film truly ends, but the final moment helped to straighten my spine. For anyone who holds this hate in their heart for Blacks and people of color should take notice.
Agreed. I think any white person who is still engaging in racial injustice and racism should watch this for a real eye opener. I could not recommend this show enough to ignorant conservatives. I feel this show is a game changer. It was brilliant
Super informative segment. Great show.

This show lends sooo much credit to the Teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.
Wow finally something I can sink my teeth into I applaud you
Absolutely amazing, but I had to take a break at episode 5 because it is extremely difficult to fathom that this sort of cruelty illustrates the real experiences of people who look like me a few decades ago...
Wonder if the folks who exhibit mastery in micro aggression towards those who look like me (...before those types start spewing meaningless justifications for said micro aggressive behaviour, yes without provocation, for just being...) would think twice about inflicting such evil on me and my people if they knew they could get away with it today like the folks in that episode did?
I’ll continue watching because as tough as it might be, the truth must be told and understood by all...
As a young white female, I have grown up being taught that we all bleed red. I have never had a racist bone in my body. This show made me sick to my stomach, thinking that people with my skin color got away with treating people of color with such hatred and torture. It made me want to throw up. We are so far from being unified as a country, but I can only pray that people that watch this show wake up and realize this stuff REALLY happened and we should be trying as hard as we can to make sure POC never feel this way again. It was absolutely horrifying to watch

The Color of Law. Great book to read to expand further on the content he speaks about. This is a topic to continue bringing to the front because it’s historical fact proving systemic racism. Whites can’t deny hard proof.
Why did Little Marvin leave out "God" in the pledge of allegiance to the flag? It's supposed to be one nation, under God, indivisible...

When he said that people who 'looked like him' were 'erased' from the classic films he mentioned, my first thought was "do you mean hipsters?"
They always seem to find black actors when it comes to movies like this. Why can’t there be feel good movies?
Life isn't rainbows and butterflies; unfortunately this is life was and still is in several aspects. ALL people need to opne there eyes and see what this life is truly about. this show was great each character was great this series was about facing your fears and guilt for example the demon's we're all a depiction on what each character problem was for 1.the mom and the tall hat man the mom being sexual assaulted and watched, her baby get murder in front of her, she surfers from PTS and depression this is why she doesn't seem to trust white people for that reason. As for her ghost the man with the tall hat is also a depiction of pts hatred giving that he lost his family and also hates black people because of his fear of that they are evil and uses black magic. The dad's trauma is being pts and anger giving the fact of the hardships of what he went through during his service in the military and what he is facing as a black man in that time period, his ghost the man with the black face represents the Father's trauma the man in the black face wants the father to kill and he do this by reminding the dad of what happened to his son. Overall each ghost represents the characters mental and the characters conquerors their fears/mental health at the end. Overall this show was good it had many flaws that I noticed and amazing character development. In my opinion it was a 9/10

Ok so why were they tourturing that pour family but everyone else who was black they was living they best life the black janitor the black men at Henry’s job all the black peoples walking around. But they decided just to pick on this family so many unanswered questions
I think because the white people felt as though black people belonged in those jobs, such as janitors. they were taken back by the fact a black man like henry could be as successful as them. it was intimidating. they wanted henry out of their “white neighborhood”. the other black people, such as henry’s family (hazel, etc) were living in a predominantly black place. the white people felt that they were where they belonged, so they didn’t care. henry and his family were shown to be as successful as them and they didn’t like that so they stopped at nothing to drive them out, torture them, etc. it’s horrifying how they were treated. I think the point was to show people how people of color were treated in this time period. especially those who were actually successful and starting to blend in with the white people. they wanted black people to “stay in their place” like the janitors were. the message varies based on each viewer, but that’s what I gathered from it
🙏 🇯🇵
This was one of the worst movies I've seen recently, about the black american experience. A simple reading of our history in America is a horror story, & this movie had no redemptive effects. Black writers, directors, producers, & actors seem to be brained washed into believing all that exists in the telling of our history, begins with slavery & ends with Jim crow, black codes, segregation, & the Civil rights movement. We don't need the retelling of this history because it's well documented. What this writer & others need to to is tell the real stories of our African heroes, like the African Egyptians, the African Moors who ruled Europe for 700 years, & dragged it out of the dark ages. Black people have a rich history the world needs to know about, it up to us to demand that the stories of our heroes claimed by others, be reclaimed & told by us!
I agree! This history is constantly told, as if we aren’t traumatized and misinformed enough (education system/curriculum). I’m ready to learn the history or our kingdoms, global wealth historically, Moors, etc via film! This could use a pause!
But its still happening...I'd go with both tell the painful part and the sweet part...ya know wat am sayin...
Bad reviews done by African Americans for this show are all over social media. I saw someone say it’s just Black people getting tortured with no real point. Some people thought it was a sequel to US. Why would they even come up with the name Them knowing the title would remind them of a knock off version of US.
Those blacks giving bad reviews have been blinded...I think they've just covered there skin with white paint
This movie kinda racist

The movie is not racist. Those people who actually did those things depicted in this movie are racist, pure evil and it’s inexcusable.

@Not Sure who is “dwelling” on it?
Making one comment and stating a point of fact is not me “dwelling” on it.
WRT the movie itself, making one sci-fi movie to explain “redlining” during a period of overt white oppression, extreme racism and atrocious cruelty is not “dwelling” on it.
Just because you may want to sweep things under the carpet, pretend that the same sentiment behind those despicable acts depicted in the movie do not still exist today, it does not mean you can make false assertions about folks “dwelling” on things that I personally have never seen on TV before (ie the fictional story of redlining based on true events but set in a sci-fi genre)... that is NOT dwelling on it. It is telling a painful story, honestly and in an interesting way.
What a terrible show. Quentin Tarantino should’ve written the second half of this season.
