Honest Government Ads are one of the greatest national treasures of Australia. When the government is being twats, which is all the time, they're here to call them out for it in the smilingest way possible.
Cool and normal.
‘Nippers’ is junior surf life saving - basically swimming and surf safety education for little kids.
The Honest Ads guys are bloody funny - funnier than friendlyjordies and swollenpickles.
Nippers was also a general term used by my grandparents and great grandparents generations meaning young kids.
PLUS Nippers is free
Nippers is also junior footy players.
Also a training pipeline for our volunteer Surf Life savers.
@@MrMambott no it is not. Costs about the same as any other kids activity.
Yes, each state goverment is separate to the Federal Govt. They are responsible for different things.
The government of my state, New South Wales, has streamlined its operations by divesting itself of most of its responsibilities except the maintainenance of political retirement pensions and the backbench-to-corporate-lobbyist underground railway.

And then there's the local governments
LOVE Juicemedia. They'll give you the truth with a punch in the face.
The 'ads' are indeed dubbed - they are incisive, topical and indeed very political - I love them as an Aussie myself. Mining has captured much our political class here - so this an apt one. Not just for WA, but Australia nationally too. 'Nippers' = young kid surf lifesavers.
I appreciate how you’re always willing to explore and learn about Australian culture, checking Google when you don’t understand, and asking your Aussie viewers relevant questions all the time. It’s engaging and interesting. Keep up the great work! ❤
(Very different to many other American reaction channels where they just go “OMG”)
It's a parody of real government ads. You may note the misspelling of the word Australian, in the logo for the "Western Australien (sic) Government". This allows them to say it's an official WA Government advertisement without having to add a verbal or written disclaimer. As you can't legally pretend to be someone you're not, if they used the correct spelling for Australian then they would have needed to put in a disclaimer, which may have affected the feel/flow of the parody.
Thanks. I hadn't spotted that.
We can’t just move this rock art it belongs where it is to the traditional owners of this land
Of course you can move them, if the Egyptians can move the Abu Simbel temples because of the Aswan High Dam surely Australia can organise to move a few rocks.

@@hellfire_2345 Rubbish, throw them a couple of mill$$$ and they'll help you move them.

She is being dubbed but it's supposed to be like a government ad that you see repeating in places like RMS, Medicare and stuff
Each of the Australian States have a State Government but we also have an Australian government which is the federal government. Our state governments have a Premier and the Australian Federal Government has the Australian Prime Minister
Each Aussie state also has a Governor
Though unlike the US, the position is mostly just ceremonial, as they're the representative of the Crown (Now King Charles III) at the state level, while the Governor- General represents this at the federal level.
It gets better. Some of the State governments have an Upper AND Lower chamber. Oh and there's local government too!

The Telsla battery is not in WA, its in South Australia and I think there is one now in Victoria too. Definitely dont think they put one in WA yet, we are behind on that stuff.
@Princess Daisy seems like every country in the world can't cope with power demands because of switching to renewables? You haven't heard of the massive power problems looming for Europe? And also, solar farms and lithium mining cause huge environmental damage.. Look how much land clearing and destruction of wildlife habitats have to be destroyed to put up turbines, not to mention all the copper mining required for the turbines and the millions of birds they kill... You people are delusional and hypocritical

As a US born citizen and now a dual-citizen living in Western Australia, I can understand why Ryan's not understanding Australian political humour but surprised that Ryan did not recognize one of "These Knobs" - the woman Knob on the left is Gina Rinehart - who was recently in sitting in the front row in Florida when Trump annouced his 2024 run for the Presidency.
The bugle building is the Belltower and has attracted huge criticism since it was built in 2000.
For those that dont know the background to that, the the truth is even funnier. The bell tower houses the bells of the church of st martins, london - theyre about 600 years old and were given as a gift to Perth City. Perth City wanted to house them in a massive high tower, so we could all hear their beautiful sound - which is impressive btw. Unfortunately, a bit down the road from them is Langley Park - a huge swathe of green open land next to the river but in the CBD area. Importantly, Langley Park is one of only two official airfields in the world that is INSIDE a major capital city.
So when the plans for the original bell tower were released there was a big outcry from people in perth who - wait for it - wanted to preserve Langley Park as an official airfield. So, because of the ‘save Langley park airfield’ campaign the belltower had to be miniaturised to avoid interference with the landing area approach way to Langley Park.
In my quite long lifetime Langley Park has only served its official function as an airfield for the red bull air races (twice) and occasionally as a parachute landing ground during the Australia Day ‘skyshows’ (fireworks and plane displays). Prior to that the last plane to land on Langley Park was probably a ww1 sopwith camel. Flying planes low over the river became unpopular when one nosedived into the river during an Australia day skyshow, tragically killing two people onboard. The Langley Park airfield preservationists went to war to preserve - pretty much nothing.
Then it was decided that international mining companies needed high rise offices in Perth and Elizabeth Quay and its high rises went up almost overnight (a good thing btw). Langley Park is now a very large grass field in the Perth CBD and no-one knows what to do with it. Oh, yeah, and we also have a tiny bell tower 500 metres down the road from it.
Vanity project
It was supposed to be twice as wide at the base and three times taller. Would have been huge. Original plans were shown at City of Perth Council House for several years.
WA guy here, can confirm that I pay taxes from my non-existent income to our mining company overlords.
So if you don’t earn money how do you pay tax? And if you actually do live in WA why not get a fu,,ing job there are plenty available thanks to mining
@@lindasmith320 facts. My industry is screaming for workers right now. Unless you are disabled, or extremely sick, there is no excuse to not be working in WA right now.

When asking about the governments, you answered your own question. Australia is a federation (hence the word "federal" of states, similar to the US. The Federal Government governs the federation, like it does in the US, each state has its own elected government. So where the US has state governors, we have state premiers as a similar comparison.

The beautiful yet inspiring lands of Australia. The seekers really did it right!

P.S the people in the beautiful coloured dresses and gowns, known in our country as First Nations people (what it says it what it means) are the people who lived on the land presently as Australia for 40thousand + years, only what is known we can say. Completely OT, would love you to react to the Ibis Song (Bin Chicken Song). It’s a quick video and I think you’d get a laugh (and much puzzlement) at the language.

The tesla battery was built in South Australia in reaction to the entire state having an electrical blackout. It was fairly cheap... if you can afford to throw 44b in the bin. For us... not so much. But it works great. Backup generator for 10% of the population was definitely worth it. Only had 3 massive blackouts since then
Just on the Tesla Battery site, that's not used to help power the country. It's only used to help power South Australia when interstate powerlines when brought down in storms. So it's useful but not in any kind of renewable energy way.
The Tesla battery has been huge for South Australia. Stores power from renewables for on demand usage. SA Gov generated half a billion $$ by storing and selling power form the battery into interstate power grids.
Nippers - children - used in this context to mean children learning about safety in the water, the sea, promoted by surf life saving organisations
In 2017(?) a severe storm knocked out all power to South Australia (essentially some interconnector between Vic and SA got knocked out, overloading the demand on the network). While there was theoretically power available, firing up power plants takes time, and power networks don't cope well with fluctuations (I think there was a famous outage in the US caused by unexpected network fluctuations that cascaded across a lot of the country - not sure on details). Anywho, if the network had some sort of balancing the network may have coped better (probably still with a partial failure, but not the whole network in the state going bye-bye). Musk saw an opportunity to sell a battery (it helps balance network load) and offered to set it up - "free if not completed in 100 days"). It copped a lot of criticism, because theoretically the battery can only power the state for a very short amount of time - but the point of it is load balancing rather than continued power (in a similar way most UPS are designed to give you enough power to safely shut down systems rather that to continue normal operations during an outage). The SA Government took him up on the offer and the rest is history....
Regarding "What is WA?". We have a 3-tiered system of Government (I suspect the US is likely similar to some degree), where there is a Federal Government, a State Government and a Local Government (in most places). Western Australia is a state, and has some autonomy to do whatever it likes independent of the Federal Government (the states aren't fully autonomous - obviously they rely on Federal Govt to distribute funding which sometimes comes with strings attached - but broadly speaking how the states run is up to the state Governments)
Lived in Karratha for 10 years and loved it, lived in Perth for 6 months and hated it 😂
'Nippers' are young surf life savers, aged 5-14 years. It is a Junior Development Program & pathway to becoming a fully rounded participant.
Ryan, there are 6 states & 2 territories (northern territory & the ACT, Canberra, our capital city, where all the politicians work) 8 in total, each has their own premier, (your governor) and controls the state. This is a joke ad, about if they told the truth. There is a whole series. You have to look up a Aussie TV show called “life support” which is a parody of a lifestyle show or “Russel Coight” which is kind of a parody of Steve Erwin crocodile 🐊 Hunter. A nipper is a child swimmer. One of the Knobs was Gina Reinhardt, who owns our biggest iron ore mining company and our richest woman. And yes a mining company DID blow up a sacred site, and they know it was there, apparently it was an “accident”.
ahh we actually have 6 states (new south wales, queensland, victoria, tasmania, south australia & western australia) + 2 territories (northern territory & australian capitol territory)

Nippers is like a surf beach club for kids and teenagers that basically do all kinds of little events on the beach and in the surf, basically teaches them to surf and how to be a lifesaver and a good swimmer
This video was released at a ti e when the eastern side of the country was impacted by massive increases in electricity and gas prices. Western Australia made smart deals and arrangements with mining companies to ensure that the residents of Western Australia would always have access to reasonable priced electricity and gas. Is it not surprising that the eastern states are again attacking us for our forward thinking. This also followed some eastern states proposing that we in the west pay more taxes so they can get cheaper power. Wrong in so many levels.
We can have the smart deals but that doesn't take away from their message that we're still getting screwed by billionaires and massive multinationals.
Brief explanation. The states came first (as colonies) and have their own governments, constitutions and laws. All states cut a 'federal size hole' in their constitution and created the federal government to be responsible for the specific things in this hole. So defense, most tax, creating standards, national healthcare funding, age care, indigenous affairs, declaring national parks, etc. The states hold power for local police, local education, local health service provisions, running national parks, etc. Therefore, the feds have zero authority outside of the stuff given to them by the state constitutions. To change this, all of the states would have to change their constitutions and then the whole of Australia would have to change the fed constitution.
This actually works surprisingly well, except when it doesn't. Big stuff-ups are taxes and health as examples. The Federal government sets the standards, collects most of the money and holds the purse strings for health, but the state governments are responsible for actually delivering health services. There's a lot of finger pointing. But at least the health system works better then it does in the US.
"Why does this lady seem like she is being dubbed?"
Lady is actually being dubbed.
There is a good video on how JuiceMedia makes their videos - they released it at the end of the year, I think 2021 but it might have been the end of 202. You should look it up.
Australian states have their own state governments which means they have their own parliaments, laws, regulations and constitutions and is one tier below the federal government (based in Canberra) which is for the entire country. It commonly called the 3 tier system, Federal, state and local.
FYI the Tesla battery is in South Australia, not Western Australia. Even though the battery is one of the biggest in the world, it's really only a few seconds or minutes worth of energy to the grid, so it's not there to save energy. Rather the battery helps with grid stability through frequency control (FCAS), which does save the operator millions of dollars.
Before the the battery, to only way to do FCAS was to have rotating generation like a coal or gas generator, meaning that fossil fuels had to be burning no matter what, even if there was an over supply of solar and wind.
She is being dubbed. They had a behind the scenes video a while back showing how they make it.
Wow Ryan, well done. It only took you a few seconds. You're right that Juice Media clips are dubbed. There is one woman that does the voice for all of them, and then there's a couple of girls that do all the presenting. Even for other country's videos.

Tesla batteries went to South Australia
Australia is a federated commonwealth. State and federal governments have divided powers. States are semi-independent, have their own constitutions and make their own laws, but are subject to the constitution and laws of the commonwealth, in many ways similar to how it works in the US. Although we don’t elect practically every public officer like you guys do. It is completely possible to have two sets of laws for the same thing; one that only applies to those inside the state and another that only applies to those whose businesses or operations exist in multiple states. Depending on how the law was written either only one will apply or both. This happens a lot with wages and industrial relations, education and healthcare.
The main difference is we are set up as a democratic commonwealth, and the US is set up as a union of states within a republic, which mostly impacts how governments are formed and the redistribution of wealth between states. In Australia we ensure economically weaker states can provide equivalent government services to their populations as better financially off states; we have this thing called fiscal equalisation built into the constitution which requires wealthy states to provide a portion of their revenue to the federal government to redistribute to poor ones. So you don’t end up with wealthy states that have every service and impoverished states that have nothing and no basically prospects of ever turning it around.
When applied fairly it works really well, and when applied cruelly it can hurt the donor state. This happened not so long ago with WA paying up to 72% of its GST revenues for years because of their relative economic performance, until the matter was fixed. Now they can’t take more than 30%, which is a big win for WA and allows it to build infrastructure to keep investing in that economy that supports basically every other state.
Hilarious video to react to. 3 forms of government in Australia...Federal, State, Local. Thanks for this, young Ryan...most enjoyable 💖💖💖😂😂😂🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
All all useless.
The points she made about Labour are right, a lot of people my age at least (I can't speak for other age groups) voted for them to help reduce emissions (like any party actually cares) at least they acted like they cared to end it until they got in and now they're doing the opposite
The federal government isn't. Besides, a lot of people voted strategically in the federal election by putting Greens or an Independent first, then Labor, and of course the Libs last.
I’m Australia, all the different states have their own governments, but there’s one person who sees over the whole country, which is the prime minister ☺️
You need to get up to date with our states. We are a federation. They have such inventive names like South Australia, Western Australia etc. and everything in Australia is ‘Great’; the Great Barrier Reef, the great Australian bight, the great dividing range, and Victoria (that’s a State) has a small area of desert called the Little Desert. We are basically the worlds quarry. We dig shit up and sell it to other countries, so the resource companies get rich, pay very little tax, have next to no limitations on their activities and destroy aboriginal cultural sites with impunity.
Juukan Gorge was full of accent indigenous rock art. Rio Tinto claimed they didn’t know as they didn’t have updated plans which is not exactly truthful. The reason why is because unfortunately indigenous heritage sites are not listed as or equal to unesco heritage sites so the penalty for destroying something like this is chump change to big companies like Rio.
Also we have 3 levels of government: local (so your local city or area,) state, and federal
Similar or kind of like the United States, Australia is a federation of states. So yes, the WA government is an entirely seperate entity to the Australian Federal Government.
Each state and territory has it own government

Western Australia is one of the states in the Commonwealth of Australia. So just like in the US there are State laws and Federal laws.

I wouldn't say that is the majority view of the mining and energy industry in WA and of Woodside. The resource industry has bought a lot of wealth into the state and has created many well paid jobs, both directly and indirectly. Many of our other industry rely on the mining. When the mining slows down, so does our economy. During the last 2 mining booms, there was literally a labor shortage. We rode out the GFC and every other recession like a pot hole over the past 20 years. Generally, we like our gas because we have gas pipe line that runs from the north west and down to Perth and the South west. Although there have been one or two controversial projects, overall the resource industry is welcome by most. I have never been aware that Woodside a bad reputations, people are more worried about RIO Tinto for destroying the cave paintings.
West Australian government is a state government, as opposed to the Federal Government.
