I was curious as to what the marginal utility was at E, without assuming linearity. For those of you who are also curious here's how I worked it out: I noticed that the the sequence of berries had a constant second derivative of -20 i.e. the amount that the production of berries decreased by for each rabbit produced was increasing each time by 20. This is characteristic of a quadratic function and can be proved using integration. I then worked out the coefficients of the quadratic by substituting in the known points in the video. This gives B=f(R)=-10R^2-10R+300, differentiating this gives the marginal utility: f'(R)=-20R-10. So at point E the marginal utility is f'(1)=-30, in terms of berries this gives 1/30.
I can learning very hard. In the classroom, the teacher does not explain and let the students to reason independently. Still, I get a pass in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Economics subject in 2003. As for the Chinese History subject, the teacher gives me some tips but I do not believe. As a result, I get Fail.

Namaste The resources are finite, hence we need to make the best choices. The principle of opportunity cost helps us in making the correct choices. For instance everyone has 24 hours in a day. How do we use the next 1 hour of our time. Extending this principle beyond money , each individual chooses that which provides the greatest value to the individual. One person may value serving others, another making money, a third family time. This understanding of opportunity cost helps us in allocating maximum resources for what we value. Thanks.
The opportunity cost differs depending on from what scenario to what scenario. From F to D is 60 berries. From E to C is 100. In both, you catch 2 more rabbits.
You may have to gather data for each hour of the day gathering only berries, and gathering only rabbits, to see what hours of the day are best for gathering each.
Another way of saying “the opportunity cost of 20 berries is 1 rabbit” is to say “as you gain 20 berries than you would in another scenario, you lose the rabbit you would have gained in that other scenario.”
It’s interesting that it’s worded as a “loss,” or a “cost,” when you really don’t get it to begin with. It’s a lost opportunity, yes-“you lost the opportunity to get another thing”-but it’s rather a gain fore-gone.

Vicki Bee This is just an example to understand opportunity cost. In reality you will not really have zero berries or rabbits because you give up berries or rabbits, due to the presence of trade. For example when you give up all berries and use the time to hunt rabbits you can use the extra rabbits you get to trade for berries. You should know the world better before you made any negative comments.
@kschoe937 maybe after learning all these videos, you can ask a professor if he/she would be interested in doing some independent study on a special topic with you. now that you've watched all the vids, there might be some particular topic you can dig more in depth. that would accelerate your learning more
That's what I am: a vegetarian. But you don't give up protein to be a vegetarian. You give up meat and replace it with protein from other sources. Like sunflower seeds, pasta, rice and peanuts. And eggs. I'm not vegan.
This might sound silly, but how does this work in a real-life situation? With a business or whatnot? I'm having trouble understand its practical application.
I still confuse about opportunity cost I read a lot about it but all of them gave me different ideas 😭 It mean the alternative I choose it to take what I want like a production but i will give up another something like a money ? Or i have to choose between a highest-valued and another cheaper, but I don’t know what the interest i will get it ? Wich one is right !?
I am thinking, based on the average guy and the claimed backed by the U.S. Dept. of Education, that a college student made twice the amount of the minimum wage worker. mm okay. opp cost of 1 more rabbit is 40 berries. and the 40 berries can be thought of as the marginal cost. but then opp cost of 20 more berries is 1 rabbit. but this is not a marginal cost because he is talking about 20 more units and not just one? in the first scenario then wasn't he talking about 40 more units and not just one?
You are awesome Khan, but in the scenario you described where all things were equal with Rabbits and Berries, would it not be never worth it to go after a rabbit, because you do not befit from increased caloric and nutrient consumption?
You got it wrong bro, it equal mean the hunter use the same hunting gathering method in each scenario. The value of the strawberries and the rabbit aren't the same, a rabbit seem to be significantly more valuable than a berry though
