Great exercises. I do these movements about 3 times a week on top of typical bodybuilding workouts. I'm very strong and have a good deal of muscle mass all around. Over the years just playing around and throwing random things like a football to my friends for fun, I've always noticed that I couldn't really throw anything at a distance without my shoulder kinda hurting. I never understood how guys smaller than me could throw a baseball or football harder with less effort. Doing light band exercises like this has developed my rotator cuffs a great deal
Justin thanks for putting this video out! Me and my kids have been watching most of your video's since we found your channel. I love this one because my daughter hurt her shoulder several years ago and a lot of the things you showed in this vid were exercises that she did in physical therapy. I'm going to pass this along to her and my son so she can do some more work on her shoulders to help them get stronger and hopefully get my son developing equally and help him get an early start for high school ball when he goes in another year.
Very helpful video! I’m 32 years old and have been playing baseball/softball since I was 5 years old. I’ve been able to throw very hard with basically no pain until the last 3-4 years my arm has been bothering me a lot and my throwing strength has dropped off quite a bit. Last year I started lifted weights and throwing more regularly besides game days and that helped a lot. I’m going to try this J-band workout as a smarter and more focused workout for building my arm strength. Thanks Justin!
It was really great coach. It added significant velocity for my pitching. Most importantly helps much to stay away from injuries particularly on shoulder and elbow. I pitched for 27 outs consecutively (start at 1-1 counts though) without any injury after start these. Obviously 27 consecutive outs are not possible earlier. However, I feel that, for curves and sliders some specific strengthen activities required.
Justin - what are your thoughts on weight lifting outside of light rotator cuff / j-band exercises seen here and in the dumbbell arm care routine? If you support exercises like squat, deadlift, bench etc...how do you work those types of heavy routines in during the offseason?
I bet if I did these in high school for all 4 years .... would have never had any arm injures and would have added 5-7 mph to my fastball .... the young kids have it easy now days......RUclips....I love you!
Hey Justin, I just bought Jbands for my 9yr old son and they arrived today. So happy to see your video today so he can work on these drills! Quick question: how many sets of each of these would you recommend? Thanks and keep up the great work that you do!
+Baseball Stuff I like to do 25 reps of each exercises, then immediately move onto the next one without any rest. One or two sets of these exercises should be plenty! If he's not feeling a burn in his rotator cuff by that point, then the resistance isn't strong enough!
love your videos man, my son has really progressed over the past few years, his mother and I always look for different ways to improve his game, he loves it, he hit over .700 this past year, had an ERA around 1 and through an 18-0 shutout over a big rival, not bad for 11 lol, I have a ton of your videos saved and we will go over them weekly, thank you sir.
Great video. I just want to add that 25 reps is a lot of reps. If you’re starting this out for the first time then you probably won’t be able to achieve that many reps while maintaining good technique. If you need to start off at 10 reps each then start at 10. Strength will build over time. Also, this taxes your shoulder so factor that into your throwing program. Shoulder needs time to recover.
Hello Coach Justin, I found your video and really liked it. My son is 16 and playing baseball in Japanese High school and he is a pitch. He is a right arm pitch but do you think it would be good idea to train both of his arm to balance his body since he is still growing. Forgive my imperfect English.
Hirotoshi Ishibashi こんにちは。 I saw this late, but I may be able to help. Creating stability in both shoulders is a good idea, so I think using them for both is the way to go. Keep in mind that Japanese high school players generally through much more frequently than American high school players. At that age, I recommend bands 3-4 times a week. If he feels tired or worn out, keep it to 2-3 times a week. Please remember that form is more important than reps. Shoulders should be relaxed and not raised. Having extended shoulders and doing these bands can result to minor or major injuries as it increases stress on the shoulder. Pay special attention to this when doing forward and reverse flies. I am going to include a link to the official exercise instructions from the creator because I know it can be hard to look up information on the internet in another language. 日本語が下手です、すみません。I hope that you can understand, and if I don't not explain clearly or well enough please reply. Hey Justin I just got into baseball like 5 months ago. I've been practicing ALOT! I got into it because I was told I have an arm I just checked my velocity recently and I'm throwing 74-79 is that good or bad? I'm 19 and just started 5 months ago. Should I continue practicing to give it a shot at college ball?
BRated dude pls help me..I need to pass a physical test which is to throw ball 61 metre.but could throw only 56 metre..now i have only month for preparation..can I improve 6 metre by practice within 2 months...pls reply
Personally I'd get started around 12 years old. Wish I had started these exercises sooner! As long as proper form is maintained, all these should do is HELP, not hurt.
You can before and after! Personally I LOVE doing these before practice or games, even before you pick up a ball. It'll get all your "throwing muscles" loose and warmed up!
Is I good or bad to do this everyday? And also I'm on a 15 u team and I only throw 68, by doing this how much faster do you think my velocity could get in the span of like 4 to 5 months? Great Vid btw
I would do this 3-4x per week. It's tough to say exactly how much harder you'll be throwing. However, you should notice a velocity improvement + your arm should feel better + your arm will be much healthier!
Ckori Jones Driveline should have a free workout on their website. Be careful with those balls because throwing them incorrectly can hurt the arm. Everything you need should be on the website.
