Why is the mainstream media footage never this thorough?
Excellent job!
Because anything to do with Florida or Desantis they hate.
Because they pick and choose what they want you to see
News 6 is the Ft Myers NBC affiliate. Like their CBS counterpart WINK news they keep all stories to under 3 minutes and generally don't include details. Like where a robbery took place. Their audience likes it's news short, scary and stupid. So they would show 10 seconds of this.
IE: market forces.
Because they can get in the way of rescue missions.
Antarctic orb, all major stations are own by Sinclair and controlled by conservatives. Look it up.
I know all to well what they are going through. I went through Hurricane Michael which was a 5 and lost everything. My prayers go out to everybody who has suffered through Ian. Remember,it will get better. It make take time, but y'all will overcome. My prayers are with yall
🙋♀️ Okaloosa County. We did everything we could to support Bay county. I've never heard of a hurricane strengthening while making landfall.... OR being recategorized. We were told "oh Cat 4" until... What a year later?

It was so heart wrenching after watching a horrible devastation. Those who lost their lives were the most unfortunate people. My heart goes to every one who lost their lives/ property. May God gives them patience and rebuild them one more time and restart their life . Love from PAKISTAN

My best friend and I were just down there two weeks ago for her birthday. We stayed on Sanibel and visited the wildlife rescue center and enjoyed the nature walk. My heart goes out to the people living there but my heart really hurts for all the beautiful wildlife that was lost. That island was a wildlife sanctuary and the people living there took pride in it.
Oh crap, I sure hope they got the animals out before this storm struck. 😞
@@michaelshrader5139 yeah, how do you know they were lost?
That is just so sad... :'(
The whole island had wild bunnies, turtles, coyotes and more. Plus the island was the biggest hot spot for nesting sea turtles. We drive down there from St.Petersburg multiple times a year. The island was covered with water.
@@michaelshrader5139 ya man they put the flamingos in the bathroom with the pumas.
Having gone through Ida in Thibodaux, Louisiana I truly feel for these people. I do know this. The volunteers will come form all over the USA to help with the road to recovery. As soon as they can you will see electric companies from everywhere working 24/7. The devastation in southern Louisiana was horrific but somehow, someway, with the help of so many we came back strong as will you all in Florida. Thoughts and Prayers for all Floridians.
I agree!! I'm in Gray, LA. 😊
Tough times create tough people.
God bless the first responders, rescue workers, electrical and construction workers, national guard, law enforcement officers, medical personnel, charities, neighbors, volunteers, government agencies, and all those who are helping in the rescue and rebuilding effort.
Amen
I'm from central louisiana, and we came down to do some volunteer work. My heart went out for everyone. Prayers for Florida.
This is media coverage. From the pilots, cameramen and technicians that actually run everything. No talking heads or brainless biased journalists.

Lol. Right. This morning when they were streaming live the one lady anchor couldn't stop herself. She legitimately would talk over the male anchor.
The footage from earlier in the morning had 2 structure fires that fire/ems couldn't do anything about. Just burning away.
The news coverage of the aftermath has been abhorrent. They're still showing the same old clips from yesterday
The aftermath in the fort meyer and Sanibel is tragic. But what about all the other areas. Have condo on LBK, few min coverage in Bradenton and few minutes about Sarasota. Them back to "the devastation" around ft Meyer. Over and over one reppror after another "the devastation:
Growing up in the south u're just on autopilot when getting ready for hurricanes, but u never get use to the devastation. It's heartbreaking seeing your home & places u grew up gone or changed forever. My thoughts & prayers go out to those affected by this horrible natural disaster.
agreed 💯
why would anyone live there.
@Phead 128 Seriously, why would anyone live anywhere if that was the case?! Sorry, don't mean to be disrespectful, but that's kinda a silly question. Why live in California, they have earthquakes, why live in Oklahoma, there's "tornadoe alley" & don't forget Washington or Oregon, they have those awful forest fires. Natural disasters have been happening for yrs everywhere & I'm pretty sure they're not gonna stop. Might as well enjoy life & live where u want.
@@superannieoakley4513 hard to get used to “total” devastation living in a low lying area like Florida. One storm like that and everything is washed away in hours. No thank you. I live on a hill.
I agree with the insurance company take on this. If it is a flood plain, they are probably no longer going to insure you anymore. It makes zero sense to rebuild in many of these areas if the is is what you are going to see every 75 years of so. So rebuild at your own risk.
Sending well wishes to Florida from Galveston Texas!
So much better than media coverage! Well done

My heart goes out to everyone impacted back in 2018 my family survived Hurricane Micheal a Cat 5. My sweet little town was devastated!! Two years later, after a lot of hard work we are back! I really love Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva.💛 I took my children there when they were little. Help is on the way!!! We even took a boat ride to little Captiva. This area is really beautiful!! Hold on, my dear brothers and sisters, help each other, pull together, and pray. I promise, that all of you will emerge stronger and more resilient!!! Love to all💖🕊️ Kimberly
Thank you for this coverage. I always look forward to crossing that bridge every year. Broken hearted right now and the uncertainty of what’s left of Captiva is just …. Lost for words. 😢💔
Another unmentioned thought is that Bay Area between Sanibel and mainland used to be full of large alligators. That could mean a lot of displaced alligators roaming the waterways.
wow, aside from all the loss of property , this is actually amazing footage
Your footage is amazing and heart wrenching. Keep shining so the world can see.. u matter.. so do all those who need our help..
Makes no sense to build where it snows and makes no sense to build in the plains where it floods. Or by plate boundaries where earthquakes happen in mountains that landslide, etc, etc, etc. No where is sage Evelin.
Wow. Just wow. I'm shocked...this is so much more than I expected. Being a Floridian you almost get numb to idea of "another hurricane"... until this happens. This is just unimaginable.
I implore anyone reading this to go through your home and do a "fall clean out", if you don't use it, need it or want it ♦️PLEASE ♦️donate it to a reputable organization that will help my fellow Floridians rebuild.
And EOC is Emergency Operations Center (for anybody wondering) because it is a state of emergency. They don't want any unnecessary aircraft in the air hindering rescue operations.
I love to see honest reporting… without manipulating the angles and views!
But they want you to see all this. They will never let a good crisis go to waste.
Me too.
Hard to see this devastation. My heart goes with all the people who suffered from this catastrophe, and wish them to overcome this sad time, and get quickly their life together and recover. My prayers are with you all. As someone pointed out here, the wildlife has been seriously affected, just heartbreaking.
quickly? that will take a minimum of two to 5 years to recover from.. some of the damage is permanent. by the time they recover another one may surge again.
It is heartwrenching I agree. I've been thinking about the wildlife also 😔.

Restoration only to be destroyed again, brilliant.
We do as well. Was just there in May and June. We are from Iowa and our family is in ft Meyers. It's sad seeing the places you find so beautiful and love destroyed like this. We still haven't heard from our family. I'm sure they are ok.
Nothing should be built on the barrier islands.
I guess you could just leave it destroyed forever like in Africa

Lived in Fort Myers for 5 years. I've driven that beautiful causeway many times. Often stopped to sit by the water and relax with a book. Heartbreaking footage. Where do all the birds go during a storm?. Usually loaded with pelicans and egrets. Rebuilding during this devastating economy will be a challenge. God bless you all. I love Florida.
Birds know what will happen long before the catastrophes is happening so they probably left 1-2 days ahead🕊️
@@samotriescatstuff Thank you for your note. I'm glad to know that. I love the beautiful birds down there and was concerned for them.

@@samotriescatstuff that’s sounds nice but no, not all the birds which live in the reserves in Sanibel Island would fly away they would hiding in trees and shrubs. And btw hurricanes can be mitigated, "disrupt, enhance or direct the formation via sound waves. This was not mitigated and it was driven.
I was born during hurricane Dora during the peak of hurricane season. 9 Sept. 1964. In 2004 I turned forty and we had Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. Lord help us if I make it to eighty! I live in Upstate SC and we're getting high winds already and it's a long way off. That's what we're talking about - this one must be serious!
@@markberryhill2715 I don't know how it wasn't listed as a Cat. 5 with the amount of damage it has done. It's crazy that it's died down so quickly, as hurricanes from the past had the strength to power through the northeast until they reached Canada.
@ppl suck try to move when you've got friends and family you love.

I have to say, it does look like Florida has some pretty good building codes. Lots of homes still standing with roofs.
They changed it after Andrew hit Miami.

Yeap! This reminds me of South Miami, FL after hurricane Andrew 30 years. It took a long time to completely rebuild, some will never forget.
People talk about dumping trash in the oceans yet never discuss how much trash and waste end up in as a result of natural disasters like this. What is the recovery rate of debris after a storm like this?

What about collecting oils and gas that enter the ocean?

Surprising that the pilot and the cameraman didn't seem to know know what they were looking at. The damaged bridge is the Sanibel Causeway which the only road to Sanibel Island.
Landscape is probably so changed its difficult for them to recognize what they're seeing now vs what things used to look like. The hurricanes change the shape of the shorelines too.
Go play a game , leave this conversation to adults
What do you mean? It sounds like it’s specifically what they were out there to look at. “So is this the bridge we’re trying to…” Pilot “yep” just after they had pointed out sanibel island. The pilot definitely seemed to know.
billion dollar homes out there? how sad.
@@tracy2762 yeah, I’m pretty sure the people who owned the homes in the video will be just fine if they’re able to afford them. What a tragedy for them.
Hello, i'm from florida and was in the path of Ian. Thankfully i did not lose power and no one in my family was injured. However due to flooding it destroyed my front and back porch. We stored many of our family history in a shack but now it gone. We lost our memories

Thank you for the footage.
My family in Naples is OK. I know the damage is horrendous. I could not reach them but heard from them twice already and they are both safe. Hallelujah
All the more serious when you realize that the private insurance industry in FL has collapsed and that means much of the damage you see here, if not all of it, is not covered by any insurance. We are seeing literal billions of dollars in property damage across the state of FL today.
Is most of this near the water covered federally? I mean the permanent structures built on sand bars? I'm on the other coast where banks are forced to help and insurance covers natural disasters for poorly planned and built public property with public funds but I'm not sure about private structures and land. My heart is sure with everyone there.

Why build permanent structures on what is essentially a sand bar? I don't understand Florida, sometimes. This view from the sky with awesome commentary, incidentally, really cements my inner stance on the logic of living on such low elevations by the Atlantic ocean, which allows these storms to gain speed for long distances before finally hitting: a sandbar. There's even a saying about building on sand
"The house that is built upon the sand will crumble at the first sign of a windstorm." -RC Sproul
And Matthew 7:24-26
It's all about 'real estate development.' . .
It's all about $$$
I'm sure us taxpayers will foot the bill to rebuild on the sandbar again. I agree with your statement. Make no sense whatsoever. Federal dollars are on the way.
cause they won't have another one for 30 years and people forget.
This is heartbreaking. I pray my family down there is safe. I've never had a desire to live in or even see Florida. We were stationed in Hawaii for 3 years and lived close to the ocean at two other duty stations. The ocean is nice to look at, but I'd never want to live there again. Mother Nature can be unpredictable and seemingly cruel, but she can be kind and beautiful as well.
I hope your family is safe as well, it battered Pine Island Sound’s Islands, Sanibel. Fyi hurricanes can be mitigated increased and driven..
