I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for
If you can afford to take the risk, do everything you can to achieve financial independence as soon as possible. It is made possible through bitcoin. Thousands of people have done it.
One of the best financial decision anyone can make is to key into investing in the vast crypto or stocks market.
Hey - I've been hearing about Richard for a long time now. Started during the pandemic and I've heard of how accurate his signals is.. I really do appreciate hearing your advice and feel that it is genuine
who is your coach if this is not too much i'm asking? I've been looking into advisors lately myself, my retirement plans are going down the drain, my 401k has particularly lost everything gained since 2019
I'm sure going to need his help, thanks for this amazing information
We grew up vacationing in Sanibel/Captiva and then when I had my only family we continued the tradition. It's heartbreaking to see the total destruction of this barrier island. I hope everyone is accounted for.
Note vacation
I’m born and raised in Florida. My granny took us fishing from Tampa Bay down to the Everglades as a kid. The gulf slowly disappeared behind gated communities and “private property.” How can the gulf be private? Fishing limited and access completely blocked. Boy Mother Nature sure does have a interesting sense of humor.
Mother Nature's Beautifulication
I agree. This land belonged to us Floridians and greedy politicians sold off our barrier islands.
@@timboc105 😎
@@wardrobelion8300 And greedy people, many who are not even from here. I’m appalled we had little mention, but the media designed it that way. Shame on them!
@@wardrobelion8300 Republican land developers bought the state legislature which allowed it to happen.
I moved away a couple years ago but I lived in Fort Myers for 20 years and went to Sanibel all the time to get away and ride bikes and relax..such an amazing Island..such a shame...interesting to note I was in Fort Myers a week before Ian hit and left a day before Ian became a threat and NO ONE was worried at all about this hurricane...the city seemed normal..crazy!
In my opinion. When we have devastating disasters it is NOT the right time for political insults by either parties ❗️America 🇺🇸should focus on the victims ❗️
Around this same time that Hurricane Ian got closer to Florida, 2 Powerful Solar flares occurred. An M5 and X1 Level. Could be a reason why the Hurricane intensified so quickly in such a short time the lakes and shore front in Louisiana were empty. The water there was sucked out just the same as in Tampa Bay.
Just as with Katrina, the barrier “islands” are there for a purpose, and that purpose does not include building on them. Probably not popular to say, but perhaps the islands should be left to be barrier islands.
Sending love and light to all from Sanibel Island!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS XO
I do not think people should be allowed to live there. Bulldoze everything to the ground and turn it into a national park. Maybe put some restaurants and cabins people can rent. Maybe some places are not meant for humans to live on.
Luckily your opinion means nothing of course people will live there most people are fine only people in the floodplain with old construction were wiped out
@@jendellipriscoli nope mine doesn't. But the insurance claims and FEMA costs to rebuild are astronomical. It's not fair for people to reside in these places and then expect assistance to rebuild. I'm sorry but that's how I feel. If people insist on living in these areas then they should have to be responsible for themselves if they get wiped out
Wow! I can tell why they voted her mayor!!
It's not an island it's a sandbar that is called a, Barrier Island: "A barrier island is a constantly changing deposit of sand that forms parallel to the coast." This is tragic but insane, your only rebuilding till the next Hurricane hits and even then the most generous sea level rise predictions tell us 70% of Florida will be a sandbar at low-tide by the end of the century. Most of Florida will be uninhabitable with in 20-30 years tops. Look whats going on along the Saint Johns river, it's barely inhabitable now. Rezone it, demo the debris and give it back to nature for the brief time it has left.
Thank you! Someone else that sees it as it is. 👍😎
What’s happening to the Saint John’s River? Where can I read about it?
AMEN!!!TO THAT Dirk.
As tragic as this is to see, people should have heeded the words
of Jesus Christ NOT to build your house upon the sand.
Matthew 7:24-26
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them
I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and
beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not
shall be likened unto a (foolish man), which built his house upon the sand:
Most of Sanibel goes perpendicular to the coast not parallel. Which makes it unique. There going to rebuild just like every other beach town up and down the east coast that’s been hit by a hurricane. Some people just like the beach. Just ask the folks on the outer banks NC that gets hit every other year, if they will rebuild again. One of the biggest barrier islands. Just like Ocean City MD that rebuilt after a hurricane ripped them in half in 1933. The inlet it made was the best thing to happen to that area for commercial and recreational fishing. Not everyone wants to sit in middle America trying to stick their dick in a groundhog hole and hope it gets sucked.
Yes.
I learned a long time ago, as a Floridian, that you don’t LIVE on a sandbar. These are our barriers that help to protect our coastline. These places should be beaches for people to enjoy and not a safe place to permanently live. Maybe some state owned souvenir shops and food vendors and possibly short term camping but NOT for private residences to all of these barriers for our state. Greed gave away this state land to begin with…
Hardly any barrier islands have habitation in Louisiana...... And some of the best fishing in the world... In Mississippi Bay St. Louis the barriers are tourist destinations only accessible by boats..
One less place the rich can steal now...but they will try ...again..and again...and sink and flood again and again
exactly clean it up make the island a state park
Agreed !
Just heartbreaking and overwhelming, in tears every time I watch these , God bless all of you
I pray everyday for these islands and surrounding areas.🙏🙏🙏
Very well spoken mayor.
She's cool. Y'know? You caught her vibe. And you dug where she was coming from. Right on, for you, sir. Spread that seed of compassion. It's cool.
If Sanibel were ever to go back to the birds, now would be the time.
Turn it into a park for everyone...fishing boating sunbathing etc
...its time.
Love you Sanibel 💔 🕊
So horrific.
Living in Florida is a roll of a dice. We need to keep perspective.
Florida needs more mangroves to help protect against flooding, not houses.
Fort Myers Beach needed mangroves Sanibel is incredibly environmentally conscious and there is a lot of mangroves and now it will be even more environmentally conscious with the dated flood zone construction gone
I lived on Sanibel island years ago. Such a wonderful place. I feel so bad for y'all
I'm heartbroken, Sanibel is the best place in the world. but I have to say I'm thinking the beachs must be the best for shelling
I have been going to Sanibel / Captiva for vacations the last 22 years. I had reservations booked already for next year. We visited some friends a week before it hit and i'm glad we did. My last memory of the island. Good news is my friends are OK. So many nice people everywhere you go. Stay Strong!
We had the same stuff with hurricane Sandy in 2012 history repeats itself it will never be the same
I have been to Sanibel several times. It's heartbreaking to see paradise on earth completely wiped out.
Those are the breaks when you live at sea level during the hurricane season.
It’s not completely wiped out? You are misinformed completely
Heartbreaking to see the beautiful Sanibel Island I visited yearly when living in Miami. So many memories. Now wiped out. Devastating!
It is horrible. My friends house on stilts stood strong, water got into garage
Wise friend !
Sorry for your loss praying for everyone ❤️😭🙏
If God sent the storm why would you pray for everyone effected by what he did? That doesn't make sense.

So sad. My folks loved going there. My mother had a wonderful shell collection from there.
Absolutely heartbreaking...
Prayers I hope it get better for everyone ❤
“Look and leave” these are many people’s ONLY HOMES.
Sanibel IS a magical place! I’m grieving from Ohio. My husband and I were married there and have continued to visit since. I can’t imagine vacationing anywhere else in the world! ❤️🩹🙏🏻❤️🩹🙏🏻
Yes, it's bad, but hurricanes like Andrew (200mph), Katrina, Harvey, Donna and others were way worse with a lot more casualties and damage. Even Irma, Michael, Frances, Charlie were pretty bad too. Don't worry, those homes on Sanibel had insurance. But no body is talking about Pine Island, which saw a direct hit too.
She literally just talked about Pine Island/Matlacha...
Insurance adjuster at my house said he was told if he went to Sanibel for claims he would be arrested...sounds like they dont wanna rebuild.
What are you talking about, hurricane ian was about as bad as katrina and harvey, do you even see the damage? Stop being dumb
This is not an island it is a sand bar passing as an island.
THAT ISLAND , PINE ISLAND AND THOSE OTHER ISLANDS NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN TO LIVE. ITS TOO DANGEROUS..
I'm Praying for everyone that was hit by this monster. For all lives lost .for God to give everyone the strength to get through this
Mother Nature wanted her island back and…she’s on her way to getting it. There isn’t a single insurance company that’s going to touch this place ever again. 😢
how many times can you show this the same burned house and the same building with sliding doors missing... really bad video, good interview tho.
They have to start building hurricane resistant houses ( concrete houses on 20 feet stilts for starters ).
I’ve never been there or even heard of sabibel island but it looks like there are a lot of big expensive homes .
Yes there are big expensive homes there are also moderate homes and very small homes but homes built in floodplain Anywhere are not a good idea
There is also a mobile home park where my wife and I have lived for 20 years. Also 4 low income complexes where hard working people live. Small businesses also. Yes there are expensive houses just like any other place in the US.
So sad
Maybe time to rethink about having any kind of a serious home there. Well, for us regular people. Maybe it's time to make the whole island a state park. Maybe Lee County should not spend the tax dollars on this area. The citizens might be relieved
Average people ? Bizarre comment
Lee county has nothing to do with Sanibel Island. Sanibel is self governed. Sanibel pays Lee County 250 thousand dollars a year just to use the causeway. Plus we pay a toll every time we cross it or pay for a transponder every year. Been connected to Sanibel 40 years and live here in a 700 sq ft mobile home with my wife as 100 other retired couples do. Also 3 low income complexes are on Sanibel and many mid range homes and condos. The high price condos are those that are used for rental for vacationers. Sure there are high prices on some homes just like every other places in the US. People need to know what they are talking about before making a statement.
I love Sanibel Island. The island will come back.
How about just building structures you're willing to lose instead of building multi million $ houses on the water .. These rich people take advantage of us poor folks paying crazy high insurance costs to cover their losses ..
In Sept 2022, ave median listing $1.3mil, $792 sq ft, median home sold $962k. Now if this isn’t the rich milking us I don’t know what is.
Exactly. Insurance is to protect the rich by making the poor pay for it.
You people are a joke. I live on Sanibel in a park model home with about 100 plus other mobil homes. There also 3 or 4 low income complexes on Sanibel with small individual businesses run by hard working people. Yes there are many homes in the 600 to 700 thousand range. The high priced condos are those that are rented out to vacationers. Captiva homes are very high in price. Been on Sanibel for 38 years as owner 20 of that as retired utility worker in my and my wife's perk model modest home. By the way I have nothing to do with you paying taxes or whatever. You so called poor people. We live on SS and pension know what you talking about before you cry like a baby.
Originally decimated would mean every tenth house destroyed.
Rebuilding any of these islands is just stupid. Let the island go fully back to nature.
Exactly
Exactly
It is a sandbar and they should never have allowed building on sandbars! They need to write policy to protect the sandbars/reefs and wildlife! If we are moving towards green, then building in wildlife areas needs to be eliminated. People getting greedy!
The people living in the center of the island in proper construction are totally fine it’s amazing how many jealous people are misinformed because they could never afford to live on Sanibel the island is never going back to nature in fact it is going to become more high-end than ever before now that all the poor construction is being cleared nobody should be living directly in the flood zone and that is a fact it doesn’t matter if you live in Florida or New Jersey or Boston or New York City
About time someone makes sense.
I know many in FL might think this was a so called perfect storm, but it COULD have been even worse. A week before, Fiona hit Atlantic Canada with combined surge, tide and waves topping 15m or 45ft. Despite the devastation, thank the heavens these types of waves did not hit Florida. Hopefully, they never will.
Florida, one foot in front of the other 👍🏻
This Mayor has got to be one of the coolest people to be around with. My friend John had a sister that talked just like her. Judy, yeah that was her name. She always rolled our joints with Tops... Everybody went to see Jaws 2 that day. Tripping. Enjoy life and live it
Need to have better building guide line.
How about no building on Sandbars- give the sandbar back to the indigenous wildlife that ended up in Floridian’s backyards and parking lots!
It’s not wiped out my house and a lot of other peoples homes are virtually untouched no damage no flooding... We have an awesome governor who has fixed the causeway and power and utilities will be restored there will be less bad construction from the old days that could never have stood up and no one should’ve built in the floodplain where they were don’t let the media tell you that everything is gone it is not
Well Ms Mayor I don’t see all the work you have stated has been done. I sure there are temporary bridges available seems govment once again are restriction that are delaying the temporary bridges for the causeway
Good call - they need to rethink building on a sandbar - let nature take back what was taken!
Then they should not rebuild New Orleans then.
Where's all the money coming from to fix this?
Ask Mike Pence since he loves Sanibel so much and sold his soul to the leftists...he will send money from the Devil party he joined and fix it right back up.
Make a wild guess
@@nolawarren3560 the tooth fairy?
This island is ruined. Return it to Mother Nature and move on. To fix this would be too time consuming and too damn expensive. I’m sorry to say that but it’s now the reality. If you re-build, what happens if there’s another hurricane?
Good question , all these stick houses .
Everyone is misinformed poor construction sitting in the floodplain is the only thing that is ruined many people are fine myself included everyone on my street and all of the people living above the sea level you’re only hearing from the media and looking at people on the ocean front
Island is not ruined please inform yourself you are looking at only one or two streets directly on the Ocean
@@jendellipriscoli one or two streets???? Are you delusional? The whole area is ruined. Go on a few RUclips’s and get informed. This is why this country is in the shape it’s in, people like you. Low information voters.
It took decades to build it. If an aggressive rebuild were to happen, it seems it would be a place of construction hell. I support disaster relief but there are places in this world that shouldn’t take on so many permanent residents. Insurance companies will be the indicator of how wise the investment will be. If they refuse to cover, it’s a you’re on your own situation. The government at that point cannot fill in completely what the private sector might refuse to insure.
It's called self insurance. You pay the bill for damages.
Yes, many go uninsured, it is cheaper to rebuild but you must have a nest egg. I am sure the Fed and State will hand out money to all, but for the bigger homes, they will have to pull from their nest egg! Hopefully they pulled out of the market this past year or they will be in a trailer park.
@@nolawarren3560 , that could be a minority. It does not apply to many and for those that it does apply to, they may run out of self insurance with the next storm.
Time to go magnet fishing
🙏🙏🙏
Realistically, this sandbar should become the National Park Of Sanibel. Rebuilding will take a decade or more, and then another CAT4 hurricane will wipe it out again. Living on a sandbar does not make any sense. Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results!!
🙏😥🙏
Hey mayor you should advocate not building back let it be a state park instead of the playground for the rich
The media is not telling you that if you didn’t live in the floodplain and you lived in new construction the fit the guidelines for hurricanes you were virtually untouched there was a lot of dated construction that looked like it was put together was stick and chewing gum and that is all been cleared away now a lot of people living directly in the flood zone knew it was a question of time
Il devrait se rendre compte que la mer est en train de reprendre la terre et rendre le lieu inconstructible.
Very snobbish, which seems to be a feature on any luxury island
Please be respectful - lives were lost.
Time to stop building on islands...
It is not an island - it is a sandbar! Government got greedy and let them ruin our barrier reefs to build luxury homes for the rich. Turn it back or God will do it again. We are going green - give the sandbar back to it’s indigenous inhabitants - the wildlife …
Clueless,
God pray , DLS
Why why why would anyone want to keep rebuilding, when Mother Nature tells you over and over not to.
I can see Sanibel Island is in very bad shape. And I truly feel for the people who have lost everything. But to say it’s worse than Katrina minimizes what the folks went through in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. The homes in New Orleans were under water for weeks. Mobile and Biloxi had a 30-foot storm surge. Twice what they had in Sanibel. Homes weren’t just swept off their foundations. They were swept away. Completely! There was no debris because there was nothing left!! A foundation and stairs leading up to nothing. I was there. Almost two thousand people died from Katrina. Any death is sad. To compare the two is wrong. Really wrong. The survivors of Katrina shouldn’t be compared to anyone.
Hurricanes hit all sorts of areas jealous people here seem to be taking delight and watching some people suffer on Sanibel but for the most part the center of the island is fine
Yes there is no way this compares to Katrina people just seem to enjoy the thinking upper class people are suffering .. but Sanibel will become better and safer due to the clearing of older construction...
People like myself who renourish beaches knew this would happen. Fort myers and Sanibel beaches haven't been renourished in years and had very little beaches and zero dunes. Rebuilding there again is simply a horrible idea without a major beach renourishment and a system of highly elevated dunes for protection. Just look at Harvey Cedars Beach. The only beach community that had the proper protection in place and didn't get wiped off the earth in super storm sandy. Your leaders failed you imho including your governor. But yet he pats himself on the back every day for a political adgenda for filing in a huge pothole in front of a bridge but claims he rebuilt an entire bridge in a week. Give me a break.
This statement is completely false the beaches and Sanibel have An incredible focus on nature and preserve wetlands extremely well perhaps not as much on Fort Myers
@@jendellipriscoli who said anything about nature or wetlands? They may be fine, but the human structures are destroyed because of exactly what I mentioned above.

Just have to let it go at this point. Your not rebuilding the entire island for another hurricane to wipe it off the map again. Sandbars aren’t meant to be lived on.
You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about
@@jendellipriscoli how?
I’m a Florida native I’ve been going to Sanibel since 1976…my grandparents lived there from that time until 2005…. I didn’t visit it again until 2021….it was completely different…touristy , trashy not kept up ….This mayor promoted the covid narrative which is bs…. Sanibel needed an opportunity to rebuild….it in my opinion was junky trashy looking and neglected

I totally agree the architecture was very out of date however the island itself is stunning and now it’ll become more stunning and safer for everyone all the old stuff built in the flood zone will be cleared
Unless you rebuild with concrete and raised homes , not sure if it’s worth it to live there. Seems uninhabitable. Should these areas have permanent emergency shelters ? Can tent cities be built until areas are stabilized? Lots of questions ?
You and everybody watching this do not realize that the entire island is not gone only people in the floodplain
@@jendellipriscoli yes, I am aware destruction was limited to certain areas.
She says she wants to make it extremely clear that they will rebuild. I'm saying, you have no right to think you can rebuild unless you have the personal out of pocket cash to do that. It is not the taxpayers responsibility to pay for your so called luxury living in paradise. You will be hit again within five years of rebuilding as noted by the past- this is hurricane free for all areas of living. I again want to stress- the taxpayers have no, I repeat, no responsibility to help you fund your fun in the sun resort city. You pay for it; or you move. Go live outside of the hurricane path. In the past you have seen these hurricanes come in and you will see them again. it's simple- move out and live somewhere in a safety zone. Please send this message to that lady who thinks she is within her right to say she will rebuild; but she isn't within her right; the taxpayers will be asked to pay for this rebuild; and it should not be. Go find another place to live.
Yikes ... jealous.. people will rebuild sorry your an unhappy troll
I just can't feel bad for these people. They chose to build in the wrong place. They chose to live where people should not try to live. If you're going to play in the street do not complain when you get hit by a car.
Way to go on the human compassion! 😡
FACTS! When I was a kid, the gulf and waterfront wasn’t all blocked up with gated communities and people who feel entitled to the beachfronts. Miss those days fishing with my granny. Maybe now I can enjoy it with my grandkids.

Let these people pay for all of this. I can bet my electric bill is going up. These that choose to live in these places pay there own bills and not expect my dollars to foot their choices

Bulldoze and start over. We can overcome.
What is next? ..is an oasis for the ultra wealthy. Building costs are through the roof, if you had a mortgage, you owe that money. And if you didn’t have private flood insurance (or piles of cash) you are screwed federal flood insurance covers a maximum of $250,000 building replacement. You can’t build anything for that, especially when you are talking about pilings and raising a house to 15’ in the air. Very sad to see the destruction on this island (all the towns)and Fort Meyers Beach.
They don’t pay the high insurance prices, they put it in a trust. But building on sandbars should not be allowed. This was a place for wildlife, fishing and shelling bIt needs to be that place again!

The city of New York and all cities built near sea level need to come up with an evacuation plan. Greenland Ice melt alone is enough to sink New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and all cities near sea level. The question will be. How will the world house billions of people as they relocate and resources become less and less available. Homes of the future will need to be mobile, modular, stackable and renewable. Built from materials that are abundant and still lightweight (like honeycomb). Typical government knows best - meaning one person makes a decision to not allow people to go to their property and clean up their own mess!
They cannot allow people back in very unsafe areas. The electrical wires, sharks and dolphins trying to get back to water, homes on the brink of collapse
Safety first - buildings are not safe to enter. There has beeen enough loss - let the experts get things under control and determine when it is safe to go back. Enough lives have been lost.
