Mate what a set ! I am a huge Chor Yuen fan so I am very happy he is actually getting some action and love for this set. The whole box is more wuxia focused than fist and feet ,which may not be to some people's taste but in terms of Shaw's output ,those films were equally important. I have all of the titles in the set ,some on Blu-ray but it doesn't matter about double dipping because the whole set is going to superb. Looking forward to hearing and seeing your reviews my man.
@TheFanaticalDragon Bastard swordsman. One armed swordsman. Avenging eagle. Question for you FD. Do you think we'll get Arrow/Eurika or 88 films releases of The supreme swordsman, full moon scimitar or death duel? And I wouldn't be mad at a shawscope vol 4 Derek Yee boxset. Love your channel, and keep up the good work.
Thank you mate! Really appreciate you saying that, I’m glad you dig the channel! I know a few more specific titles that are definitely on the way and none of the ones you mentioned are amongst them, but I’m confident. Eureka also jumping on the Shaw’s bandwagon now, means another label also pushing for rights for the back catalogue. I’m sure we’ll see Derek Yee getting his time in the Bluray spotlight before long too!
@TheFanaticalDragon Yh man I REALLY dig and love the channel. I've been into Kung-Fu/Hong Kong movies movies since I was 8 or 9 years old..I'm now 50. And your channel not only celebrates the things that we love, it also gives us the heads up on upcoming releases of these classic movies, but also honest reviews/opinions on them too. Awesome stuff. And you are correct. The more companies that get the rights to release these movies the better. Between them well just get more stuff. P.s.. If you can share the details on those upcoming titles 😉 🤫
Looking forward to the third Shawscope set, especially with the Chor Yuen ones and all three One Armed Swordsman films with new transfers (well actually all titles in this set have new transfers). Wow the Tony Stella artwork for The One Armed Swordsman looks absolutely gorgeous and hopefully you will give him a credit for that if you haven’t already. Took a week ago when Norman Tsui Siu-Keung (and his wife) sadly passed away. Such an underrated martial arts actor who actually starred in most of Chor Yuen titles in this set and The Bastard Swordsman (he also starred in the RTV/ATV version of The Bastard Swordsman known as Reincarnated).
Tony Stella's artwork is consistently gorgeous, I shouted him out in the video as I do every time I cover a release with his artwork on it. He's one of my two favourite artists ( along with Kung Fu Bob) producing work for the labels currently. Norman Tsui passing ( along with Lee Hoi-San recently too) were both big blows. I do wish the second Bastard Swordsman movie would have been included in the set, but my hopes remain high it may appear on Volume 4. Thanks as always for your thoughtful and informative comments!
Thanks for this! Looking forward to it, haven't seen Avenging Eagle since Chinatown in the mid 80's, and it's my favorite Shaw movie. Great lineup of movies.
it's not long now mate, and well worth the wait!! This is the most loaded set to date by far. Looking like the best release of the year for me, edging out even Severin's insanely packed Brucesploitation set.
It’s never looked better! Absolutely slays my old celestial DVD release. Arrow’s restorations are first rate. They don’t use any weird Ai smoothing or any of the ‘noise’ reduction filtering that loads of the major labels use with reckless abandon. They still look and feel like filmstock. It drives me to distraction when companies try to make older movies look like they were shot digitally.
@@TheFanaticalDragon you and me both, I just recently watched my aliens 4K and the restoration they used was extremely disappointing. Like you said either AI technology or some digital enhancements that just made it kinda look like a video game. I’m hoping my boutique shops will get Vol 3 early like they did with 2…that way I can get into that set ASAP 😆 Thanks for the great work as always, bro!!
@bigdrudogg33 100% bro, ended up selling my Abyss 4K, the regular Blu-ray that came with it looked better than the UHD disc and even that still felt too smoothed over. We are all imperfect beings. I hate this new trend of filtering everything into oblivion and trying to airbrush the cinematic past to look like TikTok portraits 😤
Best release of the year i suspect! Can't wait for everyone to get their hands on it! No worries for the Shout out , It's my absolute pleasure, I'll drop you an email soon! need to have a proper catchup!
Me too mate, it’s going to steal the year I think. Incredible job by Arrow. Not quite my cat’s debut. He showed up over on Fu For thoughts channel in his recent Dirty Ho chat. My previous cat showed up a few times over the years too, but he died last October. This wee dude is still basically a kitten, just 7 months old.
I see you've got a co-host on this video Dragon 😁🐈⬛️ There's so many I'm looking forward to checking out for the first time 😊. One Armed Swordsman is going to look stunning. I really enjoyed 'Killer Constable' the first time round with 88 Films, had no idea an extended cut existed until this set was announced!.
Thanks mate. Amazed he stayed relatively still for the duration of this entire video and didn’t flash his butthole at the camera once, usually that’s standard Cat behaviour 101. Same for me with Killer Constable! It’s a very welcome addition having a whole new cut!
My pleasure mate!! These Arrow Shawscope boxes are my favourite releases of all time. Best mix of movies I absoutely adore paired with really great extras, and I like the format of the boxes I hope we make it to Volume 5 and 6 in the future! ( I think vol4 has been confirmed already, but the titles are unknown...so far)
Which DVD release? I never had it on DVD before, only ever saw a really bad VHS rip which had no subs before.could never find the Celestial DVD release ( it was insanely expensive from what i recall) The Bluray looks fantastic though. I'm working on sorting out a discount code at the moment that may help make it a little cheaper for you though.
Cheers, legit had zero idea 88 put it out on DVD too. I assumed you were referring to some US or bootleg DVD. I did actually make a few videos already about the latest wave of 88 Shaw’s titles including unboxings for the others you mention too. Thanks for keeping me in check. Never spotted the 88 DVD edition on their website but just checked Amazon and damn, there it be.
@@ObKling I doubt it, Arrow rereleased vol1 as three standalone packs, that’s as close as I can see them going for future volumes…maybe. Vol2 still hasn’t sold out yet. As for Shout factory. No chance. They purchased the movies on a very short term limited license. That’s why their release schedule was so insane in terms of quantity over such a short period.
@@TheFanaticalDragon Thanks. Yeah, I was hoping for more of those sets of four from Arrow. Too bad about the Shout movies. I badly want Holy Flame and it would be nice to have Five Element Ninjas, but it’s hard to countenance buying a whole set just for those. (I’m sure I’d enjoy some of the others, but still.) Glad I discovered your channel. Looking forward to individual reviews of the Shawscope blu-rays.
@ObKling can you play region B discs mate? 88 films out out five element ninjas before and that can be found for a reasonable amount secondhand ( it’s oop for a few years now) and holy flame of the martial world had a great release in France ( double pack with Demon Of The Lute) but doesn’t have English subs.
Probably because there wouldn’t be enough potential sales and the much higher cost of production. Not enough people have switched to 4K yet for an already niche market. Shawscope volume two came out two years ago and still hasn’t sold out yet. 88 films have recently started putting out DVD copies of some of their releases again as that’s seemingly a more profitable route than banking on 4K releases.
FD can’t thank you enough for this video mate. I’ve been looking forward to this as I know you have a many other people have for quite some time and when I saw the collection of films in it it kind of blew me away and so to get a head start of what this actual full thing is gonna be is it’s a really cool sort of helps with my own personal height if you will and I do like your little videos I do a lot. This was more in-depth and I liked it. I also know there’s time constraints the people doing it so that’s not a knock. I could hear you ramble for at least 20 minutes mate so so yeah again thank you and it’ll be good to see the outcome of this when it comes outbut I’m confident enough that you’ve told me all I need take care
I love making videos for these sets, you are dead on though, it's a hella lot of work editing them together, but I do really enjoy it when it's Shaw's based.
bonus like for the cat.

Is Avenging Eagle cut like the DVDS?
Uncut. It’s an entirely new scan from the original camera negative.
Too bad, I thought they were in wait and after everyone bought these , they would then release 4k. Oh well!
Hi dragon do you know the quality of the to kill with mastermind bluray or dvd as the dvd cost a lot less thanks
