the cool thing about 1-XN is that the beat changes from 8/8 like in all other stages to a 7/8 rhythm

Yep, I kinda glossed over that when playing the game but after rewatching it and others playing it, I do remember 7/8 is a thing but I've never came across playing any rhythm in that time when I was drumming before
