I’m so glad you were inspired! I love seeing what you did, and I absolutely LOVE the gesso on top. I was also glad to see that it didn’t completely fall apart when you cut it up, I was a bit worried about that! Can’t wait to see when you try the circular pattern- what a great idea 😃 And thanks so much for mentioning me, I’m a newbie on RUclips so it means a lot 🙏❤
Thanks for stopping by Rose, you really got my creative juices going - I also thought of doing wibbly wobbly sewing to see how that comes out. I also want to put some out in the garden to break down on its own as well. So many ideas - thanks so much for the inspiration. I hope your channel does well, I am really enjoying see what you do! 💗😊💗
@@KariGibsonArt I have been wanting to teach my granddaughter to sew - this would be a way to have her practice stitching - and her randomness might be fun!! Thanks!! Your newest subscriber, Gail
This is a great idea Kari, I searched for Rose's video on RUclips too. I love the tag you made, it did remind me of fishing nets lol I think it would be great for a nautical theme, the possibilities are endless x Debs
Thanks Patti, I am so glad you like it, I totally love the texture of the paper/fabric this creates and I want to try out some more asap. Yes, much better today, thank you! 💗😊💗
Oh I love this technique, I also saw the video and got the idea from Rose Wildsmith's channel... and again I can't wait to see Kari's own spin on this 😍
It's a lovely technique, I am going to try all sorts of other things that have invaded my brain with this. I am so glad I saw Rose's video, she really inspired me! 😊💗
Just saw this!! 🥳🥳 I had a friend send me a piece of this paper lace (🤷🏼♀️ what I’m calling it). It was pinned on my inspiration for a year & finally tried it myself…. I’m obsessed with this stuff!! ❤️❤️ I’ll link your video on mine bc you did it a bit differently. I love everyone’s spin on it! TFS ❤️❤️
This is very cool Kari!! I must give it a try. I’ve done something similar by painting white gesso on cheesecloth with scrumptious results! When there is a call for it I’ll tug at it to create a more open texture. I’ll send you a piece!
Thank you Rose - yes, give it a go, mmm the gesso on cheesecloth sounds yummy, I may have to try that in a mixed media painting, I have the materials, yay! 💗😊💗
Thank you so much for this video. My next project is ocean themed, and this would go perfect. One question, Did you take the backing off the napkin first? I think napkins are lined with 2 backing sheets.
I wonder if it would work to use a washing-up brush to lose the paper between the sewing? Hopefully you'll get better soon. Perhaps some honey could help? If you use it at room temperature it won't loose the "healing power" 🐝🍯
Thanks Lisa, I tried to do a quarter of an inch between rows, but I think any size will do, I am going to experiment with non-uniform spacing next (so many ideas...)! 💗😊💗
Thanks Camillia, I kept all the plies together and sewed through them all, it would have been too flimsy with just one layer. I hope you give it a try! 💗😊
Oh, that sounds annoying, my machine doesn't do that. I use the longest stitch length, average tension. Maybe lower your feed dogs if you can, it sounds like they may be rumpling the paper. Other than that, I don't know! I hope you can figure it out with some experimentation! 💗💗

What a cool look! Reminds me of those rope nets you see in pirate movies.

Thanks Tina, a softish brush may work, maybe a nail brush or a toothbrush, I will experiment and thank you for the hints about the honey! 💗😊💗
Perhaps I misunderstood.. but Rose's video link leads to an Amazon item.
Oh, thanks Crystal - I made a mistake and I have changed the links - no idea what I did there, LOL! 💗😊💗

Love your tutorial! Beautiful papers! I shall give it a try.🥰
Love this technique. What is the measurement between stitches?
Thanks Lisa, I tried to do a quarter of an inch between rows, but I think any size will do, I am going to experiment with non-uniform spacing next (so many ideas...)! 💗😊💗
So I'm very intrigued. Do you take the napkin plies apart or sew through all 2 or 3 layers?
Thanks Camillia, I kept all the plies together and sewed through them all, it would have been too flimsy with just one layer. I hope you give it a try! 💗😊

I had trouble with the paper wanting to gather when I sewed it on the machine. Any suggestions, ie. Stitch length, tension, etc?
